  • Rice's suspension appeal set for Nov. 5-6
Ray Rice's appeal of his indefinite suspension has been set for November 5-6.

Advice: CBS' Jason La Canfora reported Sunday that Rice is viewed as having an "exceedingly strong" case, and could be reinstated by mid-November. Rice maintains that he didn't lie about his domestic-violence arrest in his initial interview with commissioner Roger Goodell, and believes he shouldn't have been subject to more than a six-game ban. Rice should have resolution in little more than two weeks. Rotoworld.com

  • Jets sign Kerley to four-year, $16M extension
Jets signed WR Jeremy Kerley to a four-year, $16 million extension through 2018.

Advice: The deal includes $5.4 million guaranteed. It's a lot of money for a run-of-the-mill slot man. The timing is odd, as the Jets just acquired Percy Harvin, and Kerley is mired in an underwhelming season. Kerley was heading into the final year of his rookie contract, however. The deal almost certainly doesn't include any guaranteed money beyond 2015. The Jets now have each of Kerley, Harvin and Eric Decker signed through 2018. Gang Green is placing a premium on wideout after getting caught short at the position in 2013. Rotoworld.com

The Broncos promoted RB Kapri Bibbs from the practice squad before he was drawing interest from the Bills.

Advice: Bibbs' promotion raised eyebrows since the Broncos already have Montee Ball, C.J. Anderson, Juwan Thompson and Ronnie Hillman on the 53-man roster, but they didn't want to lose Bibbs to Buffalo. An undrafted rookie out of Colorado State, Bibbs is a power back at 5-foot-9, 212 pounds with 4.67 wheels. He's unlikely to get work outside special teams on Sundays. Rotoworld.com

Advice: On Sunday, Green was overheard telling a teammate he's going to play in Week 8. On Monday, coach Marvin Lewis said the star receiver has made tremendous strides. But Green still needs to get through a full week of practice and figure out how to manage pain. "It's probably not gonna be 100 percent, but I hope it's just manageable," Green said. • Terrance West was benched against Jaguars
Terrance West was benched after failing to pick up a first down on a pair of second-quarter carries in Sunday's loss at Jacksonville.

Advice: West was actually playing ahead of Isaiah Crowell to open the game. He had room to run in both critical short-yardage situations, but tried to do too much. "I missed it," he said. "Wish I could get it back. ... I know I've got limited reps. So I know when I'm in a game, I'm trying to get a big play." On Monday, coach Mike Pettine lamented trying to get three running backs into the rotations. We wouldn't be surprised if West goes back to healthy scratch status this week, leaving Crowell to pick up all the work behind Ben Tate against the Raiders. Rotoworld.com

Austin Pettis was late for a Rams team activity over the weekend.

The former third-round pick had already agreed to a paycut and somehow averaged just 9.66 yards per reception in his NFL career. Stedman Bailey and Chris Givens are better prospects. Rotoworld.com

  • Whaley thought Brown had star potential
Bills GM Doug Whaley traded for Bryce Brown because he felt the former Eagle had the potential to be a star.

Advice: Whaley gave up a fourth-round pick to get Brown this summer, relatively steep compensation by NFL standards. Note that Brown was the unquestioned No. 1 high school player in the country coming out, getting compared to Reggie Bush by Lane Kiffin. He has 4.48 speed at 6'0/220 and is excellent in the pass game. As the Buffalo News speculates, Brown will at worst be a "co-feature back" with Anthony Dixon while Fred Jackson (groin) is out. He's a plug-n-play RB2 with potential to stick in the C.J. Spiller role even once F-Jax returns. Just note that the Bills face the Jets' rugged run defense this week and then have a bye in Week 9. Advice: Thomas, currently third on the Saints in both catches and rush attempts, sustained the injury during Sunday's narrow loss at Detroit. The earliest he'll return is likely Week 10, as the Saints play on Thursday night in Week 9. It opens up a nice window for Khiry Robinson to get a bump in snaps and Travaris Cadet to get on the PPR radar. Antonio Brown caught nine passes for 90 yards in the Steelers' Week 7 win over the Texans.

Advice: Brown saw a game-high 13 targets. Ho hum. Just another day at the office. But Brown also threw a three-yard touchdown on a fake WR sweep-turned-reverse when he hit Lance Moore in the end zone. Brown later had a 16-yard touchdown grab of his own called back after it was deemed he didn't get a second foot in bounds. A top-tier WR1, especially in PPR, Browns gets the Colts next. Rotoworld.com

Advice: Hopkins and Andre Johnson each saw a team-high nine targets. Ryan Fitzpatrick threw it to whichever receiver was working against embattled Steelers CB Cortez Allen. Hopkins' biggest play of the night was a 32-yard catch in the fourth quarter, but he ended up losing a fumble on the play, crushing the Texans' hopes of a comeback. Advice: Blue was the vulture on the opening-drive 11-yard score after Arian Foster managed 59 rushing yards to get the Texans near the goal line. Foster is an every-down back, leaving just a handful of touches for Blue weekly, but Blue is one of the top handcuffs to own thanks to Foster's recent injury history. Rotoworld.com

Ben Roethlisberger completed 23-of-33 passes for 265 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions in the Steelers' Week 7 win over the Texans on Monday night.

Advice: Roethlisberger absorbed three sacks and lost his right tackle and left tackle for stretches in this one. The offense got off to a really slow start, being held scoreless until there was 3:08 left in the first half. That's when Big Ben hooked up with rookie WR Martavis Bryant for a 35-yard touchdown over the top of the defense. The flood gates opened for Pittsburgh. Antonio Brown found Lance Moore for a three-yard touchdown 1:41 later, and Ben then found Le'Veon Bell for a two-yard score just 49 seconds after that. Roethlisberger hooked up with Brown nine times for 90 yards and had a 16-yard score called back when Brown couldn't get a second foot in bounds. Ben will be a mid-range QB2 vs. the Colts next week. • F-Jax on Bryce Brown: He's an every-down back
When asked about Bryce Brown, Fred Jackson said he's "an every-down back."

Advice: "We won't miss a beat," Jackson said. Although Anthony Dixon is under the impression he'll be a workhorse now, he's more likely to stick in a big back and special teams role while serving as the complement. Brown struggled with fumbles and bouncing too many runs outside as an Eagle, but is excellent in the pass game and has serious juice in his legs. On 190 career NFL carries, he's produced 878 yards (4.62 YPC) and six touchdowns. With C.J. Spiller out for the season and F-Jax sidelined as much as a month, Brown is a plug-n-play RB2. Advice: Brown doesn't play special teams, so he's technically Buffalo's No. 4 running back behind Fred Jackson, C.J. Spiller, and Anthony Dixon. The Bills traded a fourth-round pick to acquire Brown this offseason. It's fair to wonder if they're regretting that decision now. • Jeremy Kerley held to one catch vs. Broncos
Jeremy Kerley caught 1-of-7 targets for four yards in New York's Week 6 loss to the Broncos.

Advice: The one-catch effort was Kerley's second in three games. With Eric Decker (hamstring) back in the lineup, Kerley's already faint PPR value is just about gone. Rotoworld.com

  • LeGarrette Blount rushes for 27 yards
LeGarrette Blount rushed eight times for 27 yards in Pittsburgh's Week 6 loss to the Browns.

Advice: Blount got a goal-line carry on 3rd-and-3 from the Browns' three-yard line in the first quarter, but could muster only a yard. Blount has received just 37 totes at Le'Veon Bell's expense through the season's first six games, but even that has been too many. He's a touchdown-dependent RB4 who has only two scores. • Terrance West was a true healthy scratch
Coach Mike Pettine confirmed Terrance West was a true healthy scratch in Sunday's Week 6 game against the Steelers.

Advice: West has fallen far behind Isaiah Crowell. Pettine simply said that West needs to improve and that it comes down to practice. Owners can move along. Rotoworld.com

  • Antonio Brown has 118-yard day vs. Browns
Antonio Brown caught 7-of-10 targets for 118 yards in the Steelers' Week 6 loss to the Browns.

Advice: It was a standard day for Brown against Joe Haden and the Browns, only this time, it came in a loss. The 5/50 effort was Brown's 22nd straight. The elite WR1 should have little trouble making it 23 against the Texans in Week 7. Rotoworld.com

  • Ben Roethlisberger manages only 228 yards
Ben Roethlisberger completed 21-of-42 passes for 228 yards, one touchdown and an interception in Pittsburgh's 31-10, Week 6 loss to the Browns.

Advice: Big Ben and the Steelers could never get in rhythm, and in continuing a running theme, got less efficient the closer they got to the end zone. Roethlisberger has now been held to just one touchdown in back-to-back games, but the pick was his first since Week 2. The ball got batted at the line of scrimmage. Roethlisberger will take an 8:3 TD:INT ratio into next week's game against the Texans. He'll be a low-end QB1 against a defense that just got dominated by Andrew Luck. Rotoworld.com

  • RB Terrance West a surprise healthy scratch
Browns declared RB Terrance West inactive for Sunday's Week 6 game against the Steelers.

Advice: West, the third-round rookie, is a surprise healthy scratch. It means Isaiah Crowell has stretched out a big lead for the No. 2 job behind workhorse Ben Tate. Special teamer Glenn Winston will serve as the No. 3 RB Sunday. The Browns did declare Joe Haden (hip) and Paul Kruger (back) active. The rest of their inactives: WR Rodney Smith, DE Billy Winn, DE Phil Taylor, CB Pierre Desir, RB Terrance West, NT Rubin (ankle) and TE G Robinson. Rotoworld.com
