The Minneapolis Star-Tribune's Matt Vensel considers the Vikings' Week 13 backfield distribution "unclear" with Jerick McKinnon (back) not playing against the Panthers.

Advice: Joe Banyard was the only Vikings back left who played last week, gaining 45 yards on eight touches in a loss to Green Bay. He outplayed McKinnon, while Matt Asiata (concussion) was inactive and Ben Tate didn't play at all. Asiata is probably the favorite for playing time against Carolina, but Banyard arguably earned more work. Tate is superfluous on the roster at this point. Rotoworld.com

Free agent Ray Rice has won his appeal and will be reinstated to the NFL.

Advice: He's free to sign with any team. Unfortunately, finding a taker is an even bigger hurdle for Rice than winning his appeal, which was expected. A team interested in the declining 28-year-old (in January) would likely have to embrace a major public relations hit after Rice was suspended for socking his drunken then-fiancee in an elevator. Rice hasn't been effective on the field in quite some time. There's no guarantee he is still capable of helping a team. Rotoworld.com

Texans coach Bill O'Brien reiterated Friday that he expects Arian Foster (groin, questionable) to play Sunday against Tennessee.

Advice: Foster's fantasy owners should be doing cartwheels right now because the Titans have arguably the leakiest run defense in the league. Foster participated in practice on some level every day this week, and the Texans' medical staff wouldn't be letting him back in the fold if he weren't close to full strength. Jerick McKinnon (back) said Friday he will not play in Week 13.

Advice: He's officially listed as doubtful, but will be inactive. It's a major missed opportunity for McKinnon against a porous Panthers run defense. The Vikings will turn to some combination of Joe Banyard, Matt Asiata, and perhaps Ben Tate against the Panthers. Tate didn't play a snap last week, while Banyard played 30 and was effective on limited touches. • Report: Latavius Murray likely to miss Wk 13
John Middlekauff of 957 The Game Bay Area reports Latavius Murray (concussion) is "not likely" to play in Week 13 against the Rams.

Advice: Murray practiced on a "limited" basis on Wednesday and Thursday, but didn't work on Friday. There was early-week optimism on Murray based on the fact that his concussion happened two Thursday nights ago, but he still hasn't been cleared to play in football games. It's obviously a disappointing development after Murray ran wild on the Chiefs on just four carries in Week 12. As a rookie who doesn't practice during the week, we'd say he's probably on the wrong side of questionable-to-doubtful for Week 13 against the Panthers. The Boston Herald's Jeff Howe figures the Patriots will favor the running game in Week 13 against the Packers.

Advice: The Packers are 30th against the run and are allowing 4.5 YPC. While this game has an astronomically-high over-under (58), the Patriots may try and play ball-control offense on the road at Lambeau to keep Aaron Rodgers off the field. LeGarrette Blount figures to be first in line for carries after rushing for 12-78-2 last week, but Jonas Gray could also mix back in after seeing zero touches in Week 12. He scored on a one-yard run at the goal-line for the Cowboys' only touchdown. Murray is on pace for 384 carries, 1,903 yards, and 11 touchdowns. LeSean McCoy had 25 carries for 159 yards and a touchdown in Thursday's Week 13 win over the Cowboys.

Advice: He wasn't targeted in the pass game, and also lost a fumble. The Eagles rested McCoy in the fourth quarter, giving Chris Polk 11 carries in mop-up duty. He was able to pick up big gains against a Cowboys defense that was playing without MLB Rolando McClain for most of the first half. McCoy took an inside draw 38 yards for his touchdown. He's now rushed for 100 yards in back-to-back games and is on pace for a 323/1,357/5 line this season. McCoy will remain a locked-in RB1 despite a matchup with Seattle in Week 14. Rotoworld.com

Advice: The rushing yards were Bell's most of the season, while the two-TD effort was his first of 2014. Bell continued to look slippery, getting around the edge and fitting through tight spaces for extra yards. His play has come on at the right time for Detroit. Advice: It would be a major missed opportunity for Foster's fantasy owners if he couldn't play, seeing as Tennessee is getting routinely gashed by opposing rushing attacks. Despite Sunday's struggles, Alfred Blue would slot in as a quality RB2 in the event Foster can't make it back this week. Rotoworld.com

  • Reggie Bush (ankle) 'limited' on Monday
Reggie Bush (ankle) was limited in Monday's practice.

Advice: It's just an approximation, as Detroit didn't actually practice ahead of Thursday's game against the Bears. Profootballtalk reported Sunday that Bush is targeting Turkey Day for his return, but Bush has been wildly inaccurate with his own injury predictions in the past. For now, he should be considered no better than 50-50 to suit up on Thanksgiving. If he does, he'll be a middling FLEX play. Rotoworld.com

  • Latavius Murray (concussion) not yet cleared
Latavius Murray remains in the league's concussion protocol.

Advice: It's not a huge concern, as the Raiders are still just four days removed from their upset win over the Chiefs. As long as Murray can gain full clearance by Friday, he'll be good to go for Sunday's game against the Rams. We fully expect Murray to take over as the Raiders' starter after he stung the Chiefs for 112 yards and two touchdowns on only four carries. He needs to be 100 percent owned in 10-12 team leagues. Joseph Randle was held without a carry in Week 12.

Advice: Randle wasn't targeted in the pass game, and didn't get any touches behind DeMarco Murray. Lance Dunbar played more snaps this week and had a 26-yard catch in the second quarter. Randle remains just a handcuff for Murray owners. Rotoworld.com

DeMarco Murray rushed 24 times for 121 yards in the Cowboys' Week 12 win over the Giants on Sunday night.

Advice: He added two catches for 22 yards. It's a disappointing game for Murray's standard, as the Giants came into Sunday night as the worst-ranked run defense. Murray didn't make any impact runs, but consistently picked up yardage against stacked eight-man fronts. Murray hasn't shown any signs of wearing down coming off the Cowboys' bye. He'll remain a must-start against the Eagles on Thanksgiving. Rotoworld.com

  • Gore goes 13-39 against Redskins
Frank Gore managed 39 yards on 13 carries in the 49ers' Week 12 victory over the Redskins.

Advice: The 49ers predictably had very little success running the ball on Washington's stout front. Gore contributed to San Francisco's turnover-filled day with a lost fumble in the fourth quarter. He was also "vultured" by Carlos Hyde on a fourth-quarter TD run, which proved the game winner. With a matchup against the Seahawks on deck, Gore will be a dicey bet as more than a low-expectations RB2/flex on Thanksgiving night. Gore is still a rock-solid all-around football player, but he's understandably lost a lot of "juice" as a runner during his age-31 season. He also wore down during last year's stretch run. Lamar Miller rushed 12 times for 59 yards in Miami's Week 12 loss to the Broncos, adding an eight-yard reception.

Advice: Miller got off to a hot start, rolling up 38 yards on four first-quarter carries, but was contained thereafter as the Dolphins went pass heavy. The lowlight of Miller's day came on Miami's opening drive, as he was vultured by Daniel Thomas for a three-yard touchdown. The good news is, neither Miller's knee nor shoulder appeared to be an issue. Miller has a tough Week 13 assignment in the Jets' elite run defense. He'll be a low-end RB2. Rotoworld.com

Advice: Hyde lost a costly fumble in the second quarter. He spent a long spell on the bench after that, but powered in for the game-winning touchdown from four yards out in the fourth quarter. Frank Gore hasn't been running particularly well in the second half of the season, but neither has Hyde on a per-attempt basis. Hyde is an RB3/4 entering Thursday night's game against the Seahawks. Advice: Mathews ran all over the Rams in the first half and ended an early third-quarter possession with a 32-yard touchdown scamper. But two Rams landed on top of him at the end of the run, and Mathews ended up missing about 20 minutes of game time with a shoulder injury before returning late in the fourth. Advice: The Cardinals run game has been stuck in first gear for months now, so we knew they had no chance going up to Seattle. The Seahawks stacked the box and dared Drew Stanton to beat the Legion of Boom, a strategy a lot of teams will take the rest of the way. The good news for Ellington owners is that he keeps his value afloat via the pass game (4.1 catches per game on the year) and faces Atlanta's horrific defense in Week 13. Rotoworld.com

After knocking off the rust in his Week 11 return from a sprained MCL, Mathews was looking good with 110 total yards. Branden Oliver and Donald Brown are handling backfield duties with Mathews out. He had a long run of just 10 yards, and didn't get any red-zone chances. Ben Tate didn't see the field and isn't a threat to McKinnon's role. Advice: Bell was ineffective, but dominated touches in Detroit's backfield as Theo Riddick finished with only five. Since a slow start to the season, the Patriots' run defense has stiffened up in a major way recently, and the Lions' run blocking cleared next-to-no lanes in Sunday's defeat. • Darren Sproles finds way into end zone
Darren Sproles rushed six times for 25 yards with one touchdown and caught three passes for 14 yards in Sunday's Week 12 win over the Titans.

Advice: LeSean McCoy had his best performance of the season (21-130-1), but that didn't stop Sproles from vulturing a 4-yard touchdown in the first quarter. Sproles now has five rushing scores on the year, easily topping his previous career-high of three. The problem with using Sproles on a week-to-week basis is that he's touchdown dependent and isn't even really a goal-line back. He's averaging just 5.5 touches per game over the last four weeks. LeSean McCoy rushed 21 times for 130 yards with one touchdown in Sunday's 43-24 Week 12 win over the Titans.

Advice: McCoy wasn't quite back to 2013 form, but this was his best performance in a disappointing 2014 season. He broke off a season-long run of 53 yards in a first half that saw him record a 14-100-1 line despite getting another touchdown vultured (again) by Darren Sproles. In the second half, the Eagles used the lopsided score to back off McCoy with a Thursday Thanksgiving game against the Cowboys on deck. • Vereen gets 16 touches against Lions
Shane Vereen rushed eight times for 12 yards and caught eight passes for 48 yards in the Patriots' Week 12 win over Detroit.

Advice: The Patriots played spread offense one week after gashing Indianapolis with a power running game. Vereen was the primary back, playing 62 snaps to LeGarrette Blount's 17. Jonas Gray didn't even play a down. Blount is getting goal-line carries now in New England's offense, which curbs Vereen's fantasy upside. Vereen is still highly active in the passing game, solidifying his PPR stock. Vereen will be an RB2/flex option in Week 13 at Green Bay. Rotoworld.com

  • No Gray area: Blount scores 2 TD in Pats romp
LeGarrette Blount rushed 12 times for 78 yards and two touchdowns in the Patriots' Week 12 win over the Lions.

Advice: The Pats primarily attacked Detroit's defense in spread looks, but did mix in some power-running plays. Blount -- not "tardy" Jonas Gray -- got the first opportunities to establish a hot hand, and he ran with them. Blount capitalized on an early second-quarter 81-yard kickoff return by Danny Amendola by powering in for a three-yard touchdown to give New England a 14-6 lead. He later scored from one yard out in what amounted to garbage time in the 34-9 romp. Blount wound up playing 17 snaps to Gray's zero. Latavius Murray was forced from Oakland's Week 12 game against the Chiefs with a concussion, and will not return.

Advice: What a shame. Finally unleashed behind finished veterans Darren McFadden and Maurice Jones-Drew, Murray rushed four times for 112 yards and two touchdowns. He notched scores of 11 and 90 yards, using vicious cutbacks to break free on both runs. The second was the longest play by any player in the NFL this season. Murray took a helmet-to-helmet hit on his fourth rush, however, and was obviously woozy. If there's good news, it's that he has 10 days to get healthy for next week's game against the Rams. It's safe to assume Murray will be the Raiders' new starter when healthy. Following his 90-yard score, Murray's 107 yards on the evening represented 14.4 percent of the Raiders' season total. • Khiry Robinson (arm) not practicing Thursday
Khiry Robinson (forearm) remained sidelined at Saints practice Thursday.

Advice: It puts Robinson on track to miss his fifth-straight game. Although Pierre Thomas (shoulder) appears likely to return for Monday's game against the Ravens, Robinson's likely absence leaves Mark Ingram as the Saints' unquestioned early-down back. Rotoworld.com

  • Arian Foster (groin) to be game-time call
Arian Foster (groin) will be a game-time decision for Week 12.

Advice: It's the same thing coach Bill O'Brien said last week, though Foster didn't come close to suiting up against the Browns. Foster was downgraded to "DNP" on Thursday after being "limited" on Wednesday. He appears to have slightly better odds of suiting up for Week 12 than he did in Week 11, but his status still remains murky, at best. Foster will be a top-five RB1 if he goes, but owners can't be counting on it. Keep Alfred Blue on speed dial as a plug-and-play RB2. Rotoworld.com

Reggie Bush (ankle) remained "limited" on Thursday.

Advice: We'd like to see Bush get in a "full" session on Friday, but he's trending toward returning for Sunday's outdoor game against the Patriots. Always more effective in domes, Bush will be a mid-range RB3 if he gives it a go for Week 12. Rotoworld.com

Lamar Miller (shoulder) was downgraded to "limited" on Thursday.

Advice: A mid-week downgrade would typically be a concern, but we haven't come across any information about Miller tweaking his shoulder in Wednesday's practice. More than likely, the Dolphins are just limiting his practice reps ahead of a tough matchup with the Broncos. Miller will be a low-end RB2 for Week 12. Rotoworld.com

  • Raiders having worst rushing year in history
The Raiders are on pace for 1,008 rushing yards, which would be the fewest ever for a 16-game season.

Advice: If you've found the Raiders' run game to be monumentally futile, that's because it has been. Nevertheless, Oakland has trudged on giving carries to has-beens Darren McFadden and Maurice Jones-Drew. That might change in Thursday's game against the Chiefs, as ESPN's Adam Caplan has reported Latavius Murray will finally be in for a bigger workload. There's no reason to expect Murray to be a star, but it's long past time for the Raiders to find out what they have in the 2013 sixth-rounder. DMC and MJD are done. Rotoworld.com

  • Matt Asiata 'in doubt' for Week 12
Vikings OC Norv Turner considers Matt Asiata (concussion) "in doubt" for Week 12.

Advice: Per Norval, it's the primary reason the Vikings claimed Ben Tate off waivers on Wednesday. Asiata remained sidelined on Thursday. With Jerick McKinnon still operating as the lead back, Tate will be a touchdown-dependent RB4 if Asiata indeed sits against the Packers. Rotoworld.com

  • Norv: Jerick McKinnon still Vikes' No. 1 back
Vikings OC Norv Turner insists Jerick McKinnon is still the team's top back despite the addition of Ben Tate.

Advice: "We’re excited about Jerick and what he’s done and I see him as our running back," Norval said. According to Turner, Tate is just an "insurance" policy with McKinnon battling a minor back injury and Matt Asiata (concussion) unlikely for Week 12. If Tate is going to threaten McKinnon's No. 1 status, it's not going to be in Week 12 with just four days to learn the playbook. McKinnon will be a boom-or-bust RB2 against the Packers. • LeSean McCoy: I am the same player
LeSean McCoy insisted Wednesday that he's currently the same player he was last year, when he won the rushing title.

Advice: McCoy threw his offensive line under the bus a bit, saying, "I've had to earn everything I get this year." That's partially true, but McCoy also isn't beating defenders the hole like he did last year and isn't creating those extra yards like he normally does. Now averaging just 3.71 YPC with two touchdowns, projections have to be lowered even in plus matchups like Sunday's home game against the Titans. He's a low-end RB1. Rotoworld.com

  • Pats bring LeGarrette Blount back to Foxboro
Patriots signed RB LeGarrette Blount to a two-year contract.

Advice: Oh, the irony. Just eight months after letting Blount walk to Pittsburgh as a free agent (and getting a compensatory draft pick for it), the Patriots get to re-sign him to a team-friendly, minimum contract plus incentives deal. He returns to a backfield that has lost Stevan Ridley to a torn ACL, but does have Jonas Gray functioning well as the clear-cut No. 1 power back. We'd expect Gray to retain a big piece role, with Blount serving as insurance and depth. The 153-772-7 line he put up for Bill Belichick last season is not in the cards, making Blount only a deep-league flier. Blount will at least make sure Gray doesn't have to carry the ball 38 times again like he did in Week 11, putting a bit of a damper on Gray's volume projections. Rotoworld.com

LeGarrette Blount went unclaimed on waivers.

Advice: He's free to sign with any team. Blount had reportedly become an internal problem for the Steelers over the last month, and was released after leaving the field before the conclusion of Monday night's win. He had just 65 carries in a backup role to Le'Veon Bell. Blount should resurface in a power-run scheme. Rotoworld.com

The Denver Post reports the Broncos have no interest in free agent RBs LeGarrette Blount and Ben Tate.

Advice: A team source tells the Denver Post there simply isn’t enough time left in the season for a back to "come in and learn the team’s offensive system." The Broncos are content going forward with Juwan Thompson and Kapri Bibbs behind C.J. Anderson as they wait for Ronnie Hillman and Montee Ball to get healthy. Rotoworld.com

  • Steelers cut insubordinate LeGarrette Blount
    Steelers waived RB LeGarrette Blount.

Advice: That didn't take long. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported early Tuesday afternoon that Blount would be disciplined for leaving the field before the conclusion of Monday's win over the Titans, and the Steelers have decided to do so by cutting ties altogether with the insubordinate back. Blount hasn't earned the benefit of the doubt over a career littered with incidents, both big and small. The fact that he was averaging just 4.09 yards per carry behind breakout star Le'Veon Bell was the nail in Blount's Steelers coffin. Blount has proven useful as a power runner in timeshare backfields, but has always been overrated in short-yardage situations, and offers nothing in the passing game. Throw in his constant troublemaking, and you have a back unlikely to draw much interest on the open market, especially with Ben Tate also available. One month shy of his 28th birthday, Blount is running out of time in the league. Rotoworld.com

Panthers activated RB Mike Tolbert (leg) from IR-designated to return.

Advice: Tolbert will be ready to rock when the Panthers come out of their bye in Week 13, further muddling the backfield. DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart were already un-startable behind a struggling and injured offensive line. Tolbert could steal some goal-line looks. Rotoworld.com

DeMarco Murray said he feels recharged as the Cowboys come out of their bye.

Advice: Murray has been able to sustain health despite averaging 28.0 touches per game through the first 10 weeks. The bye week certainly came at a good time for his body to heal up a bit and the Week 12 matchup is ideal. Murray and the Cowboys' dominant offensive line gets to face a Giants run defense that has been absolutely gashed by the run since MLB Jon Beason went down. Murray is the No. 1 RB play in fantasy this week. Rotoworld.com

  • Colts have no interest in Ray Rice
A source tells ESPN's Ed Werder that the Colts have no interest in free agent Ray Rice even if Rice is reinstated.

Advice: A judge is tentatively expected to rule that the NFL must reinstate Rice within the next two weeks. At that point, he'll be free to sign with any team as a free agent. The Colts are certainly desperate for a back with Rice's skill set in the wake of Ahmad Bradshaw's injury, but they're not going to take the PR hit and we doubt any other team will either. Rice's best chance to get back on the field will be in 2015, a full year removed from the release of the heinous videotape that rocked the league. Rotoworld.com

  • Report: Blount is an internal problem for PIT
Sources tell the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that LeGarrette Blount has been an internal problem for the Steelers for at least a month.

Advice: Things appeared to come to a head Monday night as Blount left the field before the game was over, presumably upset with his role (zero touches). Sources told the Post-Gazette that he has been "dragging down" former Cheech and Chong partner Le'Veon Bell, although Bell clearly wasn't feeling down Monday night as he put 33-204-1 on the Titans. Blount, a limited power back on his fourth team in five years, is not a player that can afford to have a bad attitude. Some players are reportedly pushing coach Mike Tomlin to release him.
