Saints promoted QB Ryan Griffin from the practice squad.

Advice: Griffin has spent the entire year on the practice squad after failing to beat out Luke McCown for backup duties. He'll serve as the No. 3 quarterback for Sunday's regular season finale. Rotoworld.com

The Boston Globe's Ben Volin expects Tom Brady to only play a half Week 17 against the Bills.

Advice: This report echoes an earlier report from ESPN Boston's Mike Reiss, who said the Patriots could treat the meaningless game as a fourth preseason contest. Regardless of the exact snap count, it is becoming clear Brady and the Patriots' starters will not play a full game against the Bills. Already in a tough matchup, Brady needs to be avoided in both seasonal and daily formats. Rotoworld.com

Brian Hoyer (bicep/shoulder) is listed as doubtful for Week 17.

Advice: Connor Shaw will start against the Ravens. Hoyer, 29, finishes the 2014 season with a 12:13 TD-to-INT ratio and 55.3 completion rate. As most backup-caliber quarterbacks do, Hoyer got worse the more he played, and was ultimately benched for Johnny Manziel. Hoyer did play well enough in spurts to earn a backup job for 2015. The Browns have informed Connor Shaw he will be their Week 17 starter at quarterback against the Ravens.

Advice: Johnny Manziel is on I.R. and Brian Hoyer is injured. Although Shaw is limited from a talent standpoint -- he went undrafted because of it -- he did post a 24:1 TD-to-INT ratio as a senior at South Carolina, and outplayed Manziel in preseason games. Based on how poorly Johnny Football played in his seven quarters of work, we believe Shaw has a realistic chance to be an upgrade for the likes of Josh Gordon and Jordan Cameron this week. Chase Daniel will be the Chiefs' starting quarterback in Week 17 against the Chargers.

Advice: A former UDFA out of Missouri, Daniel is a limited-talent backup but arguably a good system fit for Andy Reid's offense. He is an accurate passer capable of completing a high percentage of throws even if he won't stretch the field. This preseason, Daniel went 15-of-21 passing (71.4 percent) for 195 yards with a touchdown and an interception, adding three rushes for 20 yards. Daniel was also more than serviceable in a Week 17 spot start against the Chargers last year. Evan Silva has more on Daniel's DFS outlook at the link below. Rotoworld.com

Alex Smith has been ruled out for Week 17 against the Chargers with a lacerated spleen.

Advice: Smith was hurt in Week 16, but played through it and practiced earlier this week. He went to the training staff and said he didn't feel right. The injury was revealed, and Chase Daniel is now in the saddle as the starting quarterback in an extremely important finale against San Diego. In order to make the playoffs, the Chiefs need to win and have the Texans and Ravens lose. Much like Smith, Daniel is a game manager with a weak arm and plus athleticism. Advice: The infection was discovered Wednesday, and Stanton immediately underwent surgery. Prior to that, he had been recovering well from his sprained MCL and ACL with an eye on returning for the Wild Card Round of the playoffs. The Arizona Republic reports the Cardinals have decided to bench Logan Thomas, and will go with Ryan Lindley for Sunday's finale against the 49ers.

Advice: Thomas' tenure under center is over before it even began. Per AZCardinals.com's Darren Urban, the decision comes after the fourth-round rookie was "seriously shaky" in practice. It's a bit of a surprise after Lindley was an utter nightmare in last week's loss, but coach Bruce Arians must have been confident Thomas would be even worse. It's still possible Thomas could see action off the bench. The Cardinals will be in major trouble if Drew Stanton (knee) isn't ready for the postseason. Rotoworld.com

The Arizona Republic reports the Cardinals have decided to go back to Ryan Lindley for Sunday's finale against the 49ers.

Advice: According to AZCardinals.com's Darren Urban, the decision comes after Logan Thomas got off to a "seriously shaky start at practice." It must have been as shaky as you can get, as Lindley appeared completely overwhelmed in Arizona's Week 16 loss to the Seahawks. Things won't be much easier against a 49ers team that will likely be going to bat for coach Jim Harbaugh in what is expected to be his final game at the helm. The news has little effect on the rest of Arizona's skill players, as the offense was going to be a disaster either way. Lindley can be completely ignored in DFS leagues for Week 17. Rotoworld.com

Advice: On Tuesday night, Arians said Thomas will at least play the first half. Now he's not even guaranteeing that. The bottom line is that the very raw Thomas will be on an extremely short leash and his range of production is vast. • Patriots may not play starters whole game?
ESPN Boston's Mike Reiss suggests the Patriots may not play their starters the whole game during Sunday's regular season finale against the Bills.

Advice: The Patriots clinched the AFC's No. 1 seed when the Broncos lost to the Bengals on Monday night. Reiss suspects the Patriots could view this game "similar to a fourth preseason contest when the third preseason game doesn't go as well as planned." That could mean trying to "develop some momentum" on offense and if that happens, pulling guys like Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski for the second half. Of course, Bill Belichick has been known to keep his foot on the gas in tons of low-priority situations, so no one knows for sure what will happen. • Kelly to evaluate Foles this offseason
Speaking Wednesday, coach Chip Kelly declined to give Nick Foles a full endorsement.

Advice: Kelly said he'll go through a long evaluation process on all his players, including Foles. He's not going to name him his starter even though Foles is 14-4 over his last 18 starts under Kelly. That's because he was shaky this season, turning the ball over 13 times in just over seven games and completing 59.8 percent of his passes. The problem for the Eagles is that they're unlikely to find serious competition for Foles unless they mortgage their future to move up in the draft for Marcus Mariota or Jameis Winston. Foles, heading into the final year of his rookie contract, is the heavy favorite to open 2015 as the Eagles' starting quarterback. Rotoworld.com

Coach Mike Pettine said Johnny Manziel (IR, hamstring) will "have the chance to compete" for the starting job in 2015.

Advice: The Browns clearly aren't going to hand the starting gig to Manziel on a silver platter. How could they after he lost a camp battle to journeyman Brian Hoyer, appeared completely unprepared in his two starts and posted a 42.0 passer rating. Manziel knows he needs to grow up in a hurry if he's going to make an NFL impact. "It's a job for me now. I have to take it a lot more seriously than maybe I did at first," he admitted. Peyton Manning (thigh) is practicing in full this week.

Advice: Manning missed a day of practice last week and was limited in others. So it's safe to say he's far healthier this week as the Broncos prepare for a home game against the Raiders. They need to win the game to lock up the AFC's No. 2 seed and a first-round bye. Peyton Manning completed 28-of-44 passes for 311 yards, two touchdowns, and four interceptions in the Broncos' 37-28, Week 16 loss to the Bengals on Monday night.

Advice: Manning and the Broncos started really slow, failing to score any offensive points in the first half. His first interception was a poorly thrown ball behind Julius Thomas in the flat at his own 22-yard line, setting up an easy Bengals touchdown. Manning's third pick was returned 30 yards for a touchdown by Dre Kirkpatrick to give the Bengals their nine-point cushion with four minutes to play. It was one of the worst passes you'd ever see, as it was thrown by weak-armed Peyton off his back foot and into the rain. On the following drive, Kirkpatrick picked off Manning again. It was Peyton's fifth career four-pick game. Before the meltdown, Manning had the offense clicking coming out of halftime with 21 points in the third quarter. Johnny Manziel (hamstring) is done for the season, Browns coach Mike Pettine announced Monday.

Advice: It ends a highly disappointing first NFL season for Manziel, who failed to beat out career journeyman backup Brian Hoyer in training camp and fell flat on his face when given late-season opportunities to play. Manziel's arm is average, and he loses all semblance of zip when he doesn't deliver passes with proper technique. He is also not close to being an even passable pocket quarterback. Foles will enter the offseason as the favorite for 2015 duties, but the Eagles will undoubtedly search for alternatives. It's just a matter of if they can find a better option. Rotoworld.com

    • Steelers vs. Bengals flexed to Sunday night
The Week 17 Bengals at Steelers game has been flexed to Sunday Night Football on NBC.

Advice: The game will decide the AFC North. However, a lot of intrigue could be lost if the Bengals beat the Broncos tonight as that would clinch a playoff berth for Marvin Lewis' bunch. The Steelers already clinched a playoff spot by beating the Chiefs yesterday. Other options for NBC included the Lions at Packers in a game for the NFC North and the Panthers at Falcons for the NFC South crown (along with a playoff spot). Rotoworld.com

    • Lindley struggles to move offense in loss
Ryan Lindley completed 18-of-44 passes for 216 yards and an interception in Sunday night's Week 16 loss to Seattle.

Advice: Lindley predictably struggled to move the offense, missing open receivers throughout the game. His interception came on a bad overthrow directly to Richard Sherman. Lindley completed only 41 percent of his passes and averaged an anemic 4.9 yards per attempt. With the loss, Arizona drops to second place in the NFC West. The Cardinals are hoping Drew Stanton can return in Week 17. Rotoworld.com

    • Aaron Rodgers tweaked calf in win over Bucs
Aaron Rodgers strained a calf muscle during Sunday's Week 16 win at Tampa.

Advice: Rodgers suffered the pull during the second series, limiting him a bit throughout the game. He still finished 31-of-40 for 318 yards with a touchdown even though Mike McCarthy admitted he had to change his play-calling a bit to keep Rodgers in the pocket. "It got really tight about halftime," Rodgers said. "Came in and got a little treatment and it loosened up a tad but it was still pretty tight, and I had hard time running." Rodgers will be fine for Week 17's NFC North showdown with the Lions, the question will just be how close he is to 100 percent. Rotoworld.com

Drew Stanton (knee) is inactive for Sunday night's Week 16 game against Seattle.

Advice: Ryan Lindley will start, with Logan Thomas backing him up. The rest of the Cardinals inactives are WR Brittan Golden, S Chris Clemons, OG Jonathan Cooper, NT Alameda Ta'amu, OL Anthony Steen, and DE Kareem Martin. Rotoworld.com

    • Browns unsure of severity on Manziel's hammy
Johnny Manziel (hamstring) is considered questionable for the Week 17 finale against Baltimore.

Advice: Manziel first hurt his hamstring midway through the first half and then left for good after taking a hit from Colin Jones. "As I kept walking more and more, it just felt like something I hadn't experienced before," he said. "I figured I needed to get checked out. Pretty frustrating." Through two NFL starts, Manziel is 13-of-26 for 112 yards with zero touchdowns and two interceptions. Rotoworld.com

    • Brian Hoyer struggles off bench in Week 16
Brian Hoyer completed 7-of-13 passes for 134 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in the Browns' Week 16 loss to the Panthers.

Advice: He added two scrambles for 19 yards. Hoyer entered Sunday's game in the second quarter after Johnny Manziel suffered a hamstring injury. He took three sacks among 16 dropbacks, but did lead two scoring drives, one ending in a field goal and the other a Jordan Cameron 81-yard touchdown. Manziel seems unlikely to play in the Browns' regular season finale, which would give Hoyer the start against Baltimore. Rotoworld.com

    • Brady, Pats survive feisty Jets in New York
Tom Brady completed 23-of-35 passes for 182 yards, one touchdown and an interception in the Patriots' 17-16, Week 16 win over the Jets.

Advice: Missing security blanket Julian Edelman, Brady was under siege from the opening whistle. Looking to get coach Rex Ryan one more upset of arch-nemesis Bill Belichick, the Jets treated the game like the Super Bowl, getting in Brady's face to the tune of four sacks, and countless other pressures. Brady's pick was an ill-advised pass in the face of the rush. New England was lucky to escape with a victory. The Pats have now clinched at least a first-round bye, and will earn home-field advantage throughout the playoffs with a Broncos loss to the Bengals on Monday Night Football. Rotoworld.com

    • Alex Smith goes in shell as Chiefs lose
Alex Smith completed 31-of-45 passes for 311 yards in Kansas City's 20-12, Week 16 loss to the Steelers.

Advice: He added two rushes for 14 yards. It was a typical Smith game, as he refused to take shots down the field, and too often tucked the ball and ran. The latter was a big part of the reason Smith was rung up for six sacks. Smith simply refuses to attempts passes into tight windows, and it cost the Chiefs big time today. On one of Smith's rare deep balls, he overshot Albert Wilson on what would have been a 65-yard touchdown. Smith avoids turnovers, but his total unwillingness to shoot for big plays makes him a hard sell at $76 million. Kansas City hosts the Chargers in a pivotal divisional game in Week 17. Rotoworld.com

    • Aaron Rodgers throws for 318 yards, TD
Aaron Rodgers completed 31-of-40 passes for 318 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's Week 16 win over the Bucs.

Advice: Rodgers mostly had to settle for check downs, targeting Randall Cobb 14 times. His touchdown didn't come until late in the fourth quarter on a one-yard pass to Jordy Nelson. Rodgers suffered an ankle injury on a sack, but didn't miss any time. It was another disappointing start after he was held without a touchdown last week. With the win, the Packers have officially clinched a playoff spot. Rotoworld.com

    • Roethlisberger, Pitt clinch playoff berth
Ben Roethlisberger completed 18-of-25 passes for 220 yards and a touchdown in Pittsburgh's 20-12, Week 16 win over the Chiefs.

Advice: Big Ben was slowed by the Chiefs' elite pass defense, but found just enough cushions to propel the Steelers to their 10th win, and a Wild Card berth. Pittsburgh can still clinch the division if they beat the Bengals in Week 17. Ben was lucky to escape without a turnover, as he appeared to lose a first-half fumble, but it was ruled an incomplete pass upon a dubious review. Ben also tweaked his right knee, but was no worse for the wear after running to the locker room for some brief treatment. Rotoworld.com

    • Manziel leaves game with injured hamstring
Johnny Manziel exited Sunday's game after taking a hit from Panthers S Colin Jones in the second quarter.

Advice: On a designed run in the second quarter, Johnny Football took a blow to the head from Jones. Brian Hoyer entered the game. Manziel ultimately went to the locker room with a towel on his head and surrounded by trainers. Officially, the Browns are saying Manziel suffered a hamstring injury. Before leaving, Manziel was 3-of-8 passing for 32 yards and three rushing yards. We don't expect Manziel to reenter Sunday's game. Rotoworld.com

    • Peyton Manning looked good Saturday
Coach John Fox said Peyton Manning (thigh) "looked good" in Saturday's practice.

Advice: Manning's participation in practice this week was "fairly normal," according to Fox. He should be far closer to 100 percent this week than last, when he only attempted 20 passes in a win at San Diego. Denver's shift toward a run-heavy, ball-control team is a concern, but Manning is still a no-brainer top-6 fantasy quarterback this week. Rotoworld.com

    • Report: RGIII will be back with Skins in 2015
The Washington Post's Jason Reid writes Robert Griffin III is "expected to return" to the Redskins in 2015.

Advice: Profootballtalk reports RGIII's job status for 2015 was never in danger despite all of the reports stating otherwise in recent weeks. RGIII looked like his vintage self in a Saturday afternoon win over the Eagles, and suddenly things are peachy in D.C. RGIII has an opportunity to finish the season on a high note against the Cowboys in Week 17. Whether Jay Gruden returns as head coach remains unclear, but he's reportedly been told he'll be back. • RGIII leads Washington to upset win
Robert Griffin III completed 16-of-23 passes for 220 yards and an interception in Saturday's Week 16 win over the Eagles.

Advice: Griffin looked more decisive from the pocket, and was able to go through his progressions when given time. His highlights were two 50-plus yard throws to DeSean Jackson. Grifin's interception came trying to force a pass to Jackson in double coverage, but he bounced back and led Washington to a game-winning drive. Griffin has a matchup against Dallas in Week 17. • Stanton might back up Lindley vs. Seahawks
Cardinals coach Bruce Arians suggested Friday that Drew Stanton (knee, doubtful) could be active for Sunday's game versus Seattle to serve as Ryan Lindley's backup.

Advice: Arians confirmed Lindley will start. Stanton is dealing with ACL and MCL sprains in his knee, but the Cardinals obviously have very little confidence in rookie Logan Thomas. We still don't see any scenario where Stanton plays. Rotoworld.com

Drew Stanton (sprained ACL, MCL) "did nothing" during the portion of practice that is open to the media Friday.

Cardinals QB Drew Stanton (sprained ACL, MCL) returned to practice Thursday, getting in a limited session.

Advice: It's an eye-brow raiser, but there's still little reason to believe Stanton will be ready to return just 10 days after spraining his knee. The Cardinals are likely just trying to confuse the situation for the Seahawks. It is a sign, however, that Week 17 could be a realistic possibility. Stanton's status will be updated on Friday, but we fully expect Ryan Lindley to be under center for Week 16. Rotoworld.com

Peyton Manning (thigh) was given a day of rest on Thursday.

Advice: Manning was officially "limited" even though he spent the day getting treatment. Twitter panic is already ensuing, but Manning's Week 16 status is in zero doubt. Today is the Broncos' first practice of the week since they're playing on Monday Night Football.
