  • Marcedes Lewis posts 45 yards on two targets
Marcedes Lewis had two catches for 45 yards in Friday night's preseason game.

Advice: He was targeted twice in the passing game. Lewis is a critical part of the Jaguars' offense as a blocker, and should provide Chad Henne with a red-zone option. He has a six catches for 100 yards in three preseason games. Lewis should go undrafted in fantasy leagues. Rotoworld.com

First-round TE Eric Ebron had two catches for 27 yards in Friday night's preseason game.

Advice: Ebron rotated first-team reps with Brandon Pettigrew and played in two tight-end packages. His longest play was a 15-yard catch-and-run on a swing pass out of the backfield. Ebron made a critical block on Reggie Bush's 86-yard touchdown run, which should help get him on the field more. His blocking has been an issue in camp. Ebron has five catches for 65 yards through three preseason games. Rotoworld.com

Updating a previous item, Seahawks TE Luke Willson passed concussion tests during Friday night's preseason game.

Advice: He's been medically cleared and will be fine after the concussion scare. Willson has been quiet in August, managing two preseason catches for 27 yards. The seam-stretching sophomore will be an inconsistent fantasy TE2 parked on the depth chart behind Zach Miller. Willson is more attractive in Dynasty leagues. Rotoworld.com

  • Martellus Bennett goes 1-22 against Seattle
Martellus Bennett secured his lone target for 22 yards in the Bears' third preseason game Friday night at Seattle.

Advice: Bennett was ruled to have scored a touchdown on a second-quarter wheel route after a pinpoint throw by Jay Cutler, but it was overturned on replay when Marty B's rear end was shown to be down just before the goal line. Suspended for the preseason opener, Bennett now has two catches for 47 yards in two exhibition affairs. He's a low-end, low-ceiling TE1 in fantasy leagues. Rotoworld.com

Mychal Rivera caught two passes for three yards in Friday's preseason game against the Packers.

Advice: Rivera soaked up all the first-team snaps at tight end with David Ausberry (knee) sidelined. A poor blocker who can't run, there's nothing to see here. Rivera, who has four catches for 29 yards this preseason, will be a rotational player this season. Rotoworld.com

Advice: Amaro caught a 15-yard drag from Geno Smith on the Jets' first play from scrimmage, and hauled in a one-yard score one quarter later. He has eight catches for 79 yards and a touchdown through three preseason games. Amaro figures to be inconsistent as a rookie, but is on the fantasy radar as a back-end TE2. Third-round TE Richard Rodgers started Friday's preseason game against the Raiders, his third consecutive start.

Advice: Rodgers found a hole up the seam on the game's opening drive, galloping for a 32-yard gain. He ended up playing every snap on that opening drive and took the majority of first-team reps, but veteran Andrew Quarless did rotate in and caught a 6-yard touchdown pass from Aaron Rodgers midway through the second quarter. Rodgers has three catches for 50 yards through three preseason games, and is at least worth putting on the TE2 radar. Advice: Breer says "everything is still on course," with Gronkowski, but he will not play in Friday night's regular season dress rehearsal, and likely will sit out the preseason finale, as well. Advice: Playing well into the second half with the rest of the Steelers' starters, Miller secured a laser 27-yard strike from Ben Roethlisberger for the first-team offense's only score. Back to moving like he did before his knee surgery, Miller finishes the preseason with eight catches for 62 yards and a score. Ertz spent ample time in the slot. Celek could occasionally cramp Ertz's style, but we still think Ertz is an intriguing back-end TE1. ESPN's Jamison Hensley reported earlier this month that Daniels had "no burst getting off the line," and was having trouble "getting separation in training camp." The Lovie Smith regime has come in and made the position a priority, drafting Austin Seferian-Jenkins 38th overall and signing Brandon Myers. It's bizarre to hear of a 6-foot-4 tight end with 4.61 speed potentially being moved to fullback, but it's a moot point for 2014, as Lyerla will miss the entire season. Standing in at 6-foot-4, 247 pounds with 4.61 wheels, Lyerla is a potential mismatch. He only went undrafted because of (admittedly serious) character concerns. Through two exhibition games, Ertz has six grabs for 86 yards and a TD on seven targets. On Friday night, Ertz outmuscled Patriots S Pat Chung at the goal line on his second-quarter score, barreling into the end zone. Watching Patriots practice, The MMQB's Greg Bedard observed Rob Gronkowski (knee) "favoring his right knee," and running with a "decent but not terrible limp."

Advice: The former Pats beat writer believes Gronk is "far from a lock" to suit up for Week 1. After a sunny summer of updates, the Gronk news has grown a bit more pessimistic this week, but ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Thursday there's still "optimism" around his Week 1 status. This being the Pats, things will surely come down to the wire. It's possible we won't know Gronk's status until the opening day inactives are announced. Rotoworld.com

  • Zach Ertz shines in joint Pats practices
According to CSN Philly, Zach Ertz stood out in this week's joint practices with the Patriots.

Advice: The Pats agreed. "He's a great player," were the words of RE Chandler Jones. "He's very athletic. He's faster than I thought." S Devin McCourty said Ertz "understands how to get open against good defenses." All signs are pointing toward an Ertz breakout this season. Particularly if Jeremy Maclin (knee) can't stay on the field, Ertz could be primed to leap into elite TE1 heights. Rotoworld.com

  • Adrien Robinson gets some run with the 1s
Giants TE Adrien Robinson spent time with the first-team offense in Thursday's practice.

Advice: Robinson was No. 4 on the Giants' most recent depth chart, and has been running with the 2s and 3s in preseason action. It's obviously encouraging he's getting some run with the 1s, but hardly an indication of a sudden climb. With unknown Larry Donnell running as the starter, the G-Men could be getting desperate, and trying to force the issue with a player GM Jerry Reese once called the "JPP of tight ends." Rotoworld.com

  • Michael Egnew remains 'largely invisible'
Dolphins TE Michael Egnew has been "largely invisible" since returning from a concussion earlier this month.

Advice: Assessing his tight-end group on Thursday, coach Joe Philbin "withheld praise" for the 2012 third-rounder. It's increasingly unlikely that Egnew cracks the 53. Rotoworld.com

  • Colt Lyerla dealing with severe knee injury
Packers UDFA TE Colt Lyerla has a torn MCL and PCL in his right knee.

Advice: The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel believes Lyerla could be headed to injured reserve or waived/injured. Despite his big name, Lyerla has little Dynasty value. Rotoworld.com

  • Packers could use committee approach at TE
The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel says "don't be surprised to see the Packers use a bevy of tight ends in more specified roles this season," hinting at a possible committee approach.

Advice: The Packers have seven tight ends in camp, and outside of injured UDFA TE Colt Lyerla (knee), all are competing for a role. Brandon Bostick is having his strongest camp to date and is being referred to by some as "Jermichael Finley Light" due to his speed and athleticism. Third-round rookie Richard Rodgers has drawn praise from Aaron Rodgers for his consistency. Andrew Quarless and Ryan Taylor are blocking specialists. We like Bostick the most of the bunch, and the coaches want to increase his role. He's merely a late-round flier. Rotoworld.com

  • Schefter: Optimism on Gronk for opener
ESPN's Adam Schefter says there's still "optimism" on Rob Gronkowski's status for Week 1.

Advice: Schefter confirms that Gronkowski still hasn't been cleared for contact and it would be surprising to see him play in a preseason game. Given the secretive nature of the Patriots, more information than this is going to be hard to come by. All we know is that Gronk hasn't had any setbacks since sustaining an ACL and MCL tear eight months ago, and he's graduated to 7-on-7 work while wearing a red non-contact jersey. Rotoworld.com

  • Eric Ebron struggling as a blocker
First-round TE Eric Ebron is struggling as a blocker so far at camp.

Advice: It's not a surprise as Ebron was drafted 10th overall to catch passes, not block people. The good news is that he's reportedly coming along in terms of route-running and drops, and is learning four different positions. Ebron's most likely role in Year 1 is as a passing package player that lines up in the slot. Still only 21 years old, he's a far better Dynasty prospect than re-draft target. Rotoworld.com
