Advice: Painter's lone regular-season appearances came with the Colts in 2012. Bibbs showed well in the preseason (19/84/3), and should be ticketed for the practice squad.

Giants waived or released RB Michael Cox, DE Jordan Stanton, RB Kendall Gaskins, DB Thomas Gordon, WR Julian Talley, OL Roger Gaines, DB Chandler Fenner, OL Mark Asper and LB Terrell Manning.

Advice: Cox got more opportunities than he deserved last season thanks to all the injuries in the Giants' backfield. He ended up with 22 carries for 43 yards and no touchdowns. The Giants have decided to keep Peyton Hillis as their No. 3 running back behind Rashad Jennings and Andre Williams.

Advice: The No. 253 overall pick of the 2012 draft, Harnish has never attempted a regular-season pass. Fluellen is a candidate for the practice squad, and could eventually reach the 53-man roster considering the state of the Colts' running back corps.

Advice: Paulson appeared in all 16 games each of the past two seasons, combining for 13 catches for 152 yards. Still only 25, he'll look for work as a reserve.

"Multiple sources" tell's Jimmy Kempski that the Eagles are "open" to trading third-string QB Matt Barkley.

Advice: This report was echoed by Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Daily News. Barkley is a relatively unattractive trade target with limited physical tools, and coming off a ho-hum preseason. Perhaps he'd fetch a sixth- or seventh-round pick.

    Packers waived WR Kevin Dorsey.

Advice: The Packers are keeping just Davante Adams and Jeff Janis behind Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb, and Jarrett Boykin. Dorsey spent his entire rookie year on injured reserve after being the 224th overall pick in the 2013 draft. He caught 5-of-9 targets for 52 yards this preseason. At 6'1/207, Dorsey runs a 4.47 forty.

  • Chris Polk makes Eagles final roster
Chris Polk has made the Eagles' 53-man roster.

Advice: Polk was barely able to participate in camp due to a hamstring tear, so it speaks volumes that the Eagles still kept him. Matthew Tucker and Henry Josey both had strong camps. Polk, who is expected to be ready for Week 1, is the preferred handcuff for LeSean McCoy owners. Passing back Darren Sproles' role wouldn't change much in the event of a Shady injury.

Advice: Long hyped, Johnson's Eagles career ends with just 21 catches across 27 games. He had a productive preseason, however, posting a 9/90/1 line as a receiver while rushing 12 times for 83 yards and an additional score. He could earn a look on waivers.

Advice: The Broncos are only going to roll with Brock Osweiler behind Peyton Manning for now. Dysert went 12-of-19 for 106 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions in two preseason appearances. He's a strong candidate for Denver's practice squad, but could draw multiple claims.

The Dolphins are "pursuing trade options" with third-year WR Rishard Matthews.

Advice: Matthews will "definitely" not be waived today, per the Miami Herald, but the Fins are open to moving him if the right offer comes along. Matthews, 24, can play slot and Z receiver, and would be a useful addition to a wideout-needy team. He was buried on the depth chart with the Dolphins, however.

The Boston Herald's Jeff Howe reports suspended WR Brian Tyms will remain with the Patriots during his four-game ban.

Advice: It was a no-brainer move for the Pats. Tyms will not count against New England's roster during his four-game suspension, and was stellar this preseason, grading out as Pro Football Focus' No. 1 wide receiver. Tyms will battle for snaps at the bottom of New England's wide receiver depth chart when he returns.

    Bucs waived RB/KR Jeff Demps.

Advice: Demps (5-foot-8, 191) is too small to play running back and didn't make enough of an impact in the return game this preseason to keep a roster spot. The Olympic sprinter is the fastest man in the NFL, but he only plays special teams.

  • Mikel Leshoure pushed off roster in Detroit
    Lions waived RB Mikel Leshoure.

Advice: Leshoure, a 2011 second-round pick who lost his power-back gig to Joique Bell last year, simply didn't have a role. He doesn't play on special teams and Reggie Bush, Bell and Theo Riddick will hog all the carries in Detroit. GM Martin Mayhew almost certainly regrets not trading Leshoure to the Colts last year when he had the chance. In three seasons, he has 217 carries for 807 yards (3.71 YPC) with nine touchdowns and 34 catches for 214 yards. Leshoure, still just 24, should land on his feet despite a rough preseason that saw him average 3.69 YPC and lose a fumble.

The Eagles are reportedly trying to trade WR Damaris Johnson.

Advice: They likely hope to get a conditional seventh-round pick for smallish Johnson, although in all likelihood this is the precursor to Johnson's release. • Chris Polk misses 4th straight preseason game
Chris Polk (hamstring) is inactive for the Eagles' preseason finale.

Advice: Polk returned to practice last Saturday, but still isn't healthy enough to perform in a game setting. It's a potentially ominous sign for Polk's roster chances. He's going to end up missing the entire preseason. The Philly Inquirer recently forecasted Polk to make the final 53, but that's certainly become a question mark with Henry Josey and Matthew Tucker playing well. LeSean McCoy and Darren Sproles are locks, and Kenjon Barner may be, too.

The Philadelphia Inquirer is projecting Chris Polk to stick on the final roster.

Advice: Both Jeff McLane and Zach Berman have the Eagles keeping the same four running backs on their 53: LeSean McCoy, Darren Sproles, Polk and Kenjon Barner. It leaves Matthew Tucker and Henry Josey as practice squad candidates. Polk, who is back practicing despite a nasty hamstring pull, projects as the primary runner should anything happen to McCoy this season.

Eagles RB Chris Polk (hamstring) returned to practice Saturday.

Advice: Polk has been out since the second day of camp with a partial hamstring tear. A good showing in the fourth preseason game would go a long way in securing Polk's roster status.

Jonas Gray rushed for 20 yards on nine carries in the Patriots' third preseason game.

Advice: Gray saw some work with the first-team offense on Friday night. A big (5-foot-10, 225), powerful back, Gray could function as the power runner in New England's offense if Stevan Ridley falters. Gray has 30 carries for 130 yards this preseason.

Mikel Leshoure rushed eight times for 44 yards in the Lions' third preseason game Friday night.

Advice: He added two catches for 11 yards on three targets. Leshoure was the No. 4 back through Detroit's rotation, playing behind Theo Riddick. He lost a fumble in the second half, but it was an otherwise solid game. Leshoure should open the season as the top backup to the Lions' three-back committee. He has 98 yards on 23 carries through three preseason games.

Following Thursday night's third preseason game, coach Chip Kelly noted that Chris Polk (hamstring) better be looking over his shoulder.

Advice: Polk hasn't played at all this preseason with a slightly torn hamstring. While he's been out, UDFAs Matthew Tucker and Henry Josey have been running the ball well behind LeSean McCoy. The Eagles also traded for Kelly favorite Kenjon Barner. Polk's roster spot is in danger after he opened training camp as the heavy favorite for No. 2 ball-carrying duties behind McCoy.

Matt Barkley completed 4-of-4 passes for 37 yards in Thursday night's preseason game versus Pittsburgh.

Advice: He played behind Nick Foles and Mark Sanchez, and ahead of only G.J. Kinne. Barkley is 20-of-32 passing for 242 yards this preseason, tossing two touchdowns and two interceptions. The Eagles are likely to keep him as their third-stringer this year, but Barkley has put zero heat on Sanchez's backup job.

  • Kenjon Barner goes 7-32 in Eagles debut
Eagles RB Kenjon Barner rushed seven times for 32 yards in Philly's third preseason game Thursday night against Pittsburgh.

Advice: He added a 22-yard kickoff return. Acquired via trade just yesterday, Barner showed some knowledge of Chip Kelly's offense after playing for him at Oregon. The 25-year-old running back appears to be competing with Matthew Tucker and Henry Josey for one roster spot. As the Eagles continue to evaluate him, expect Barner to get a bunch of playing time in the preseason finale.

  • Eagles RB Polk dealing with torn hamstring
Chris Polk revealed he suffered a Grade 2 partial tear of his hamstring on the second day of Eagles camp.

Advice: He obviously hasn't practiced since, and won't play in Philly's regular season dress rehearsal. Polk admitted to feeling a "pop" in the hamstring, and plans to practice next week even if he's not fully recovered. The Eagles' trade for Kenjon Barner shows they're well aware their backfield is short on depth. Darren Sproles isn't really a ball-carrying option anymore. Michael Tucker and UDFA Henry Josey are next on the running back depth chart.

  • Kenjon Barner was getting abused in pass pro
Kenjon Barner was reportedly "overmatched by nearly every linebacker and defensive back he lined up against" during Panthers camp.

Advice: Barner added 15 pounds during the offseason, but still couldn't become adequate as a pass blocker. If he sticks with the Eagles, it will be largely due to his ability to contribute in the return game. Barner fell behind Fozzy Whittaker in Carolina and was going to get cut. Note that the Eagles won't even have to give up that seventh-round pick to the Panthers unless Barner is on the 46-man active roster for at least four games this season.
