  • Austin Pettis was late for a team activity
Austin Pettis was late for a Rams team activity over the weekend.

Advice: Pettis and practice squad WR Emory Blake were both late, and both have since been cut. But that was likely just the straw that broke the camel's back on Pettis. The former third-round pick had already agreed to a paycut and somehow averaged just 9.66 yards per reception in his NFL career. Stedman Bailey and Chris Givens are better prospects. Rotoworld.com

Calvin Johnson (ankle) has resumed running.

We're expecting him to sit that one out and then take the Week 9 bye to get truly back to 100 percent. Megatron's ability to get some running in on his severe sprain is great news for his outlook upon return -- he's an excellent buy if anyone is selling. Rotoworld.com

  • Whaley thought Brown had star potential
Bills GM Doug Whaley traded for Bryce Brown because he felt the former Eagle had the potential to be a star.

Advice: Whaley gave up a fourth-round pick to get Brown this summer, relatively steep compensation by NFL standards. Note that Brown was the unquestioned No. 1 high school player in the country coming out, getting compared to Reggie Bush by Lane Kiffin. He has 4.48 speed at 6'0/220 and is excellent in the pass game. As the Buffalo News speculates, Brown will at worst be a "co-feature back" with Anthony Dixon while Fred Jackson (groin) is out. He's a plug-n-play RB2 with potential to stick in the C.J. Spiller role even once F-Jax returns. Rotoworld.com

Coach Mike Pettine said Brian Hoyer is "still firmly our starter."

Advice: Hoyer laid an egg in a loss to the previously winless Jaguars in Week 7, looking uncomfortable in the pocket and displaying concerning inaccuracy. But he earned enough leash early in the year to get another start, this time against the 0-6 Raiders. If Hoyer loses that game, the calls for Johnny Manziel will become deafening. Rotoworld.com

According to NFL Network, Pierre Thomas (shoulder) will miss 2-3 weeks.

Advice: Thomas, currently third on the Saints in both catches and rush attempts, sustained the injury during Sunday's narrow loss at Detroit. The earliest he'll return is likely Week 10, as the Saints play on Thursday night in Week 9. It opens up a nice window for Khiry Robinson to get a bump in snaps and Travaris Cadet to get on the PPR radar. Cadet's role was expanding a bit even before Thomas' injury, as he has 15-129-1 through the air over the last three weeks while exclusively playing in the pass game. Rotoworld.com

Markus Wheaton was held without a catch on two targets in the Steelers' Week 7 win over the Texans.

Advice: The missed connections between Wheaton and Ben Roethlisberger have been a topic of conversation the past couple weeks, and the two did nothing to squash it Monday. Wheaton simply may not be very good. Rookie WR Martavis Bryant made his NFL debut against Houston and caught a 35-yard touchdown on five targets. Bryant may be poised to pass Wheaton on the depth chart. The diminutive speed threat can't be trusted as anything more than a WR5. Rotoworld.com

Lance Moore caught two passes for 12 yards and one touchdown in the Steelers' Week 7 win over the Texans.

Advice: Moore saw just the two targets. His score came on a fake WR sweep-turned-reverse to Antonio Brown where Brown hit Moore in stride for the three-yard touchdown. Moore has touchdowns in back-to-back games, but isn't a fantasy option as the Steelers' No. 3 or 4 receiver. He's merely a role player. Rotoworld.com

Martavis Bryant caught a 35-yard touchdown in the Steelers' Week 7 win over the Texans on Monday night.

Advice: Making his NFL debut, the fourth-round pick out of Clemson drew five targets -- good for third on the team behind Antonio Brown and Le'Veon Bell -- and roasted CB Andre Hal on an in-and-out double-move up the right side for the touchdown. Ben Roethlisberger tried to hit Bryant deep a couple other times with no success. Still, Bryant played a healthy amount of snaps and could be making a move on Markus Wheaton for No. 2 duties. Andre Johnson caught five passes for 77 yards in the Texans' Week 7 loss to the Steelers on Monday night.

Advice: Johnson and DeAndre Hopkins each saw a team-high nine targets. There was nothing special about Johnson's night. His biggest play was a 24-yard grab on a deep in route in front of the safeties. Johnson has just one touchdown on the season. He could have had another on Monday if Ryan Fitzpatrick would have hit him in stride on a corner route in the end zone. But Fitzpatrick overshot Johnson, who had a step on the defensive back. But Brown also threw a three-yard touchdown on a fake WR sweep-turned-reverse when he hit Lance Moore in the end zone. Advice: Hopkins and Andre Johnson each saw a team-high nine targets. Ryan Fitzpatrick threw it to whichever receiver was working against embattled Steelers CB Cortez Allen. Hopkins' biggest play of the night was a 32-yard catch in the fourth quarter, but he ended up losing a fumble on the play, crushing the Texans' hopes of a comeback. Hopkins is more of a boom-or-bust WR3 than WR2. He'll have a plus matchup on the road against the Titans in Week 8. Rotoworld.com

Ben Roethlisberger completed 23-of-33 passes for 265 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions in the Steelers' Week 7 win over the Texans on Monday night.

Advice: Roethlisberger absorbed three sacks and lost his right tackle and left tackle for stretches in this one. The offense got off to a really slow start, being held scoreless until there was 3:08 left in the first half. That's when Big Ben hooked up with rookie WR Martavis Bryant for a 35-yard touchdown over the top of the defense. The flood gates opened for Pittsburgh. Antonio Brown found Lance Moore for a three-yard touchdown 1:41 later, and Ben then found Le'Veon Bell for a two-yard score just 49 seconds after that. Roethlisberger hooked up with Brown nine times for 90 yards and had a 16-yard score called back when Brown couldn't get a second foot in bounds. Ben will be a mid-range QB2 vs. the Colts next week. Ryan Fitzpatrick completed 21-of-32 passes for 262 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception in the Texans' Week 7 loss to the Steelers on Monday night.

Advice: Fitzpatrick played well for much of the first half, leading the Texans on three consecutive scoring drives to open the game. It was a train wreck thereafter. One play after the Steelers had just scored a three-yard touchdown on an Arian Foster fumble at the goal line, Fitzpatrick comes back and tosses an interception at his own 20-yard line with 53 seconds left in the first half. The Steelers scored another TD and totaled 24 points in 2:54 before the break after trailing 13-0 with 3:08 left in the half. The Texans struggled on third downs passing the ball all night. Advice: "We won't miss a beat," Jackson said. Although Anthony Dixon is under the impression he'll be a workhorse now, he's more likely to stick in a big back and special teams role while serving as the complement. Brown struggled with fumbles and bouncing too many runs outside as an Eagle, but is excellent in the pass game and has serious juice in his legs. Advice: Wheaton and Big Ben looked like they were playing together for the first time. He caught just four of 11 targets, failing to haul in a catchable pass in the end zone and looking surprised when a third-down pass came his way in the red zone. One of Wheaton's missed connections was a catchable pass in the end zone that he couldn't quite haul in. Starting in place of Montee Ball, Ronnie Hillman rushed 24 times for 100 yards in the Broncos' Week 6 win over the Jets, adding three receptions for an additional 16 yards.

Advice: Hillman monopolized the Broncos' running back touches, getting 27 to Juwan Thompson's eight. If C.J. Anderson played a snap, we didn't see it. Going up against one of the league's better run defenses, it was easily the most productive game by a Broncos back this season. Hillman, who's been mistake prone in the past, nearly cost himself dearly with a third-quarter fumble, but the Broncos recovered. Coach John Fox decided it was no harm, no foul, and continued to feed Hillman down the stretch. Advice: Big Ben and the Steelers could never get in rhythm, and in continuing a running theme, got less efficient the closer they got to the end zone. Roethlisberger has now been held to just one touchdown in back-to-back games, but the pick was his first since Week 2. The ball got batted at the line of scrimmage. Advice: Glennon was sacked five times and hit another handful of times as the Tampa line proved once again it can't block anyone. The offense couldn't get anything going until the scoreboard read 38-0 early in the second quarter. With the Ravens playing soft defense after the break, Glennon and the Bucs padded their stats.
