  • Tony Romo sitting out Thursday
Tony Romo (rest) is not practicing Thursday.

Advice: Since the Cowboys play on Monday night this week, this is their Wednesday. Romo will be a fine QB1 against a Redskins secondary that has no prayer of containing Dez Bryant. Romo is averaging 278.7 passing yards and 2.5 touchdowns per day over his last four games. Rotoworld.com

Julio Jones (ankle) was upgraded to full participation in Thursday's practice.

Advice: Jones left foot (not the twice surgically-repaired one) has been bothering him a bit over the last couple weeks, leading to limited practices. It's not a real concern. He's an obvious must-start despite a tough matchup against the Lions' No. 7 pass defense. Rotoworld.com

  • Gruden says RG3 will be back Wk 11 at latest
Coach Jay Gruden would "guarantee...most likely" that Robert Griffin III (ankle) returns for the Week 11 game against the Bucs.

Advice: There's still a chance Griffin returns for Week 9 at Minnesota, but holding him out through the Week 10 bye is firmly on Gruden's radar. "You've got a good bye week, you've got a couple weeks to make sure it's ready. ... You know, it's a very difficult position to play, and just because he's healthy, he hasn't taken a meaningful rep in about six weeks," Gruden said. All we know right now is that Colt McCoy will almost certainly start in Dallas on Monday night, making the Cowboys an excellent D/ST streamer. Rotoworld.com

Travaris Cadet will likely be "heavily involved" in the pass game Sunday.

Advice: Pierre Thomas (shoulder) is not expected to play and Jimmy Graham (shoulder) could be limited again. Cadet, a strict passing back, has been integrated into the gameplan early over the last three weeks anyway, posting a 15-129-1 line through the air. Owners in full-PPR leagues could stream Cadet into their lineups and safely project 4-6 catches in a game that has the week's highest over/under (56). Rotoworld.com

Advice: Palmer has resumed lifting weights with his right (throwing) shoulder after not doing so for five weeks. He's been a full-go at practices and said he rarely thinks about the injury anymore. Fully healed, Palmer is certainly in play as a QB1 in a home game against the Eagles' burnable corner duo Sunday. Jamaal Charles (head) is not listed on the Chiefs Week 8 injury report.

Of course, that raised eyebrows around the league and Charles was put through concussion protocols by trainer Rick Burkholder. Reggie Bush (ankle) is not practicing Thursday.

Advice: It's a troublesome downgrade from Wednesday, when Bush was a limited participant. It's clear he's nowhere near over his ankle injury after it caused him to sit out in Week 6 and barely play in the second half of Week 7. If Bush can't go against the Falcons, Joique Bell gets a boost and Theo Riddick (questionable, hamstring) would get set for a real role. Advice: A day after getting limited work in, Johnson was encouragingly back cutting and running routes. "We're doing everything from straight-forward running to moving laterally as well," he said. "Things are going good. We're moving in a positive direction." We still suspect it makes tons of sense to hold Megatron out of this game and let him rest through the bye, but the Lions aren't tipping their hand yet. Kyle Rudolph (sports hernia) participated in the team stretch Wednesday for the first time since his late-September surgery.

Advice: After stretching, Rudolph did some running on the side with trainers. It's not much, but it is a bit of progress for a player that was hit with a 6-8 week timetable following his surgery. Advice: Johnson finished with 5-77-0 on nine targets, but had just one catch for four yards through the first three quarters. • Toby Gerhart (foot) back in action this week?
Toby Gerhart (foot) "appears" ready to return for Sunday's game against the Dolphins.

Advice: Gerhart is practicing on a limited basis this week and said he feels "pretty good" after taking the last two weeks off. However, his role is more uncertain than ever after Denard Robinson put a 22-127-1 line on the Browns last week. "I think we'll continue to mix and match a little bit," said OC Jedd Fisch. "I don't know exactly how that will all play out yet." We'd expect Robinson to start, but he's going to find the sledding very tough against an excellent Dolphins front. Gerhart will be a complementary early-down piece and Jordan Todman will handle a lot of third downs. It's not a terribly high-upside situation. Rotoworld.com

The Broncos do not expect to do new contracts with Demaryius Thomas and Julius Thomas until after the season is over.

Advice: This doesn't mean the Broncos are necessarily going to lose their superstars. Both Demaryius and Julius are in the final year of their rookie deals, yet GM John Elway will have a window between the end of the season and the free agency period to get new contracts done. He could also slap one with the franchise tag. If allowed to hit the market, Julius will at least get what Jimmy Graham recently landed (four years, $40M with $20.9 guaranteed) and Demaryius will rightfully be asking for Calvin Johnson money (eight years, $150.5M with $60 million guaranteed). Andre Johnson caught five passes for 77 yards in the Texans' Week 7 loss to the Steelers on Monday night.

Advice: Johnson and DeAndre Hopkins each saw a team-high nine targets. There was nothing special about Johnson's night. His biggest play was a 24-yard grab on a deep in route in front of the safeties. Johnson has just one touchdown on the season. He could have had another on Monday if Ryan Fitzpatrick would have hit him in stride on a corner route in the end zone. But Fitzpatrick overshot Johnson, who had a step on the defensive back. Palmer put the Cardinals ahead with a two-yard touchdown pass to Stepfan Taylor and a 33-yard score to Michael Floyd in the first half. He was picked in the second quarter by Charles Woodson on a slightly off-target pass that was deflected by TE John Carlson. Lions TE Brandon Pettigrew is expected to be more involved in the passing game against the Saints.

Advice: Pettigrew has five receptions in six games this season as Eric Ebron and Joseph Fauria have served as the pass-catching tight ends. With Fauria out with an ankle injury and Ebron doubtful with a hamstring, the Lions may have no choice but to get Pettigrew more involved. Even so, he is nothing more than a low-ceiling TE2. The Arizona Republic reports the Cardinals have begun extension talks with contract-year QB Carson Palmer.

Advice: Palmer's deal voids five days after the Super Bowl. Not many starting-caliber quarterbacks ever hit the free-agent market, so if there's mutual interest in an extension, which we'd assume there is, then it's likely the two sides will hammer something out. • Gruden: RGIII will be the starter once cleared
Coach Jay Gruden confirmed Robert Griffin III (ankle) will be the Redskins' starting quarterback once he's cleared and "ready physically and mentally."

Advice: Gruden said that could happen in one week, or it could be five weeks. But it's clear at the moment RGIII is going to get the starts under center in Washington once healthy. Kirk Cousins has "led" the Redskins to four consecutive losses, but there's always a chance he could catch fire and force Gruden to keep him in the lineup. The chances of that happening are minimal, as Cousins is a turnover machine and has never shown the ability to win games at the NFL level. The Lions have no plans to increase Brandon Pettigrew's role as a pass catcher.

Advice: Pettigrew averaged 100 targets from 2010-13, but has drawn just eight looks through six games. That, of course, is how the Lions drew up it when they spent their first-round pick on Eric Ebron and brought back Pettigrew to block.
