  • Dan Herron totals 35 yards versus Rams
Dan Herron rushed nine times for 25 yards in Saturday's preseason game, adding a 10-yard reception.

Advice: Herron started and carried the mail as the Colts rested Frank Gore. Herron is locked in as Gore's backup, but his work could be sporadic, as Gore has a three-down skill-set. Herron is an excellent handcuff, but not a standalone option in fantasy leagues. Rotoworld.com 32 minutes ago

  • Buck Allen backs up Justin Forsett
Buck Allen rushed 12 times for 24 yards in the Ravens' third preseason game.

Advice: He added one catch for five yards. Like the rest of the Ravens' running backs, Forsett struggled to find running room against the Redskins. He also committed a costly fumble on the goal line with less than ten seconds left in the first half. Allen now has 29 carries for 78 yards (2.69 YPC) this preseason. With Lorenzo Taliaferro (knee) sidelined, Allen will open the season as Justin Forsett's backup. Rotoworld.com 32 minutes ago

  • Matt Asiata rushes for 2 yards versus Dallas
Matt Asiata rushed three times for two yards in Saturday's preseason game.

Advice: He added two catches for an additional 13 yards. Provided he sits out Thursday's finale, the fantasy folk hero finishes the summer with 15 carries for 60 yards. He caught eight passes for 57 additional yards. Asiata is a firm third on the depth chart behind Adrian Peterson and Jerick McKinnon. Rotoworld.com Today, 7:25 pm

  • Chris Ivory pounds the rock for 38 yards
Chris Ivory picked up 38 yards on six rushes in Saturday’s preseason win over the Giants.

Advice: Not a bad day at the office. Ivory did almost all of his damage on the opening drive, burning the G-Men for 35 yards on five touches. The Giants couldn’t get off their blocks fast enough and Ivory made them pay. Ivory remains a non-factor in the passing game but he’s gained enough momentum this preseason to warrant mid-round consideration. He’s certainly going to be the Jets’ preferred option on the goal line this season. Rotoworld.com Today, 7:16 pm

  • Jerick McKinnon totals 37 yards vs. Cowboys
Jerick McKinnon rushed six times for 10 yards in Saturday's preseason game against the Cowboys, adding four receptions for 27 yards.

Advice: Not the best night for Adrian Peterson's change of pace, who finishes the preseason with a mere 40 yards on 25 carries (1.6 YPC). McKinnon will become an immediate RB2 if Peterson ever misses time with injury, but he opens the season as a strict handcuff. Rotoworld.com Today, 7:16 pm

  • Gus Johnson rushes for 12 yards vs. Vikings
Cowboys RB Gus Johnson rushed five times for 12 yards in Saturday's preseason game.

Advice: He "added" a zero-yard reception. The Cowboys' No. 4 back now has 21 carries for only 71 yards (3.38 YPC) through three preseason games. He should get major run in Thursday's finale. Rotoworld.com Today, 7:15 pm

  • Shane Vereen totals 39 yards on six touches
Shane Vereen netted nine yards on three carries while also grabbing three catches for 30 yards in Saturday’s preseason loss to the Jets.

Advice: Most of Vereen’s receiving output came on a 19-yard catch that was aided by great edge blocking. Vereen certainly has the chops to be a useful fantasy contributor but his inconsistent usage makes him a tough sell at his current ninth-round ADP. For fantasy purposes, he’s the least appealing of the Giants’ three primary backfield options. Rotoworld.com Today, 7:12 pm

  • Terrance West goes for 26 yards in tuneup
Terrance West rushed for 26 yards on seven carries in the Browns' third preseason game.

Advice: After a strong second preseason game, West was the third running back in the game for the Browns, even though he saw much of the red-zone work on the opening possession. After three preseason games, West has rushed for 78 yards on 22 carries (3.54 YPC). None of the Browns' backs have been impressive this summer, and we're likely looking at a committee attack to open the season. Rotoworld.com Today, 6:53 pm

  • DeMarco Murray plays one quarter vs Packers
DeMarco Murray had six carries for 28 yards in Saturday's third preseason game.

Advice: Murray lost some first-team work to Ryan Mathews and Darren Sproles, who scored the Eagles first touchdown. He remains the clear starter, but won't come close to 449 touches he saw last year. Murray has appeared in just two preseason games, rushing for 45 yards on 11 carries (4.0 YPC) and one touchdown. • Lance Dunbar gets one carry vs. Vikings
Lance Dunbar operated as Joseph Randle's change-of-pace back in Saturday's preseason game, rushing once for one yard.

Advice: Dunbar's lone touch came on Dallas' second series. He entered the game before Darren McFadden, though DMC got more touches. McFadden got work with Tony Romo still in the game. The way things have set up, Randle should carry the mail in Week 1 with Dunbar and McFadden taking turns changing the pace. Dunbar could eventually come into value, but he's unlikely to make much a fantasy impact in September. Rotoworld.com Today, 6:39 pm

  • Isaiah Crowell goes 8-27 in season tuneup
Isaiah Crowell rushed for 27 yards on eight carries in the Browns' third preseason game.

Advice: Crowell was the second back in the game behind Duke Johnson, but saw plenty of work on the opening series. While Crowell has been the Browns' most impressive runner this preseason, he hasn't taken a hold of the running-back job with just 47 scoreless yards on 17 carries. Johnson and Terrance West have simply been unable to either stay healthy or make much noise of their own. The Browns clearly don't love Crowell. We wouldn't draft him anywhere ahead of Round 8. • Doug Martin goes 9-40-1 in season tuneup
Doug Martin rushed for 40 yards and one touchdown on nine carries in the Bucs' third preseason game.

Advice: It was all or nothing for Martin on Saturday night. His first few runs went for nothing before Martin exploded later in the first half for big gains, including a 19-yard touchdown on a jump cut to the left. Looking spry in a contract year, Martin has rushed for 118 yards and one touchdown on 20 carries this preseason. Giovani Bernard had five touches for 15 yards in the Bengals' third preseason game.

Advice: Bernard rotated with the first team, playing only in passing situations. Tre Mason was forced from Saturday's preseason game with a right hamstring injury.

Advice: Mason took the rock four times for 12 yards before departing, adding two catches for an additional 19 yards. It's unclear how serious the issue might be. Mason has 15 days to get healthy for Week 1. Todd Gurley's backup/early-season fill-in finishes the preseason with nine carries for 24 yards. Through three preseason games, Miller has rushed for 59 yards on 12 carries (4.91 YPC) and reeled in seven passes for 69 yards. Advice: Sidelined for almost two years by ACL and Achilles injuries, Ballard got his first action of the preseason last week. Advice: Dan Herron is Frank Gore’s backup, but Robinson has shown enough this preseason to move ahead of Vick Ballard. Advice: Jimmy Garoppolo hit Lewis on a slant in the fourth quarter for a nine-yard touchdown. Zach Zenner rushed eight times for 85 yards and a touchdown in the Lions' third preseason game.

Advice: The highly impressive undrafted rookie dominated in this one, playing extensively with the first-team offense in the Joique Bell role, while Ameer Abdullah mixed in. Zenner ripped off eight yards on his first carry, and six on the next before breaking off scampers of 41 and 21 yards, flashing his long-run ability. Zenner also made a tackle in punt coverage, and has locked up a 53-man roster spot as arguably the star player of the Lions' preseason. After Bishop Sankey's big game against the Rams last week, he appears to have taken a couple steps ahead of Cobb on the depth chart. Ivory is the crystal-clear lead dog in the Jets' backfield and could see "about 20 touches per week" with 3-4 looks in the passing game. Martin looks faster and quicker this year and is finishing his runs. His big gain Monday night was a 30-yard scamper up the right sideline after burying his head and powering through a couple arm tackles from Bengals defenders. Chris Ivory rushed five times for 36 yards and a touchdown and gained 20 yards on three receptions against the Falcons Friday night.

Advice: Ivory was having a poor night on the ground before busting a 33-yard touchdown on his final carry of the game. The real story is Ivory's involvement in the passing game. After catching just 18 passes total last season, Ivory had three receptions in basically a quarter and a half on Friday night. The receptions were all dump offs, and Bilal Powell still came in on most of the obvious passing situations. Still, this game is decent evidence the Jets' talk of getting Ivory more involved in the passing game this season might be legitimate. Rotoworld.com Friday, 6:27 pm

  • Beat writer leaves Zenner off 53-man roster
MLive.com's Kyle Meinke left undrafted rookie RB Zach Zenner off his Lions 53-man roster projection Friday morning.

Advice: Meinke's colleague and fellow Lions beat writer, Justin Rogers, however, has Zenner making the squad. It's really going to come down to if the Lions value George Winn's special teams ability over Zenner's feature-back upside. Zenner leads the Lions in rushing after two preseason games and has flashed as a runner, pass catcher, and in blitz pickup. He'd be awfully tough to cut. Rotoworld.com Friday, 9:36 am

  • Zenner totals 81 yards, score vs. Redskins
Zach Zenner rushed four times for 22 yards in Thursday's preseason game, adding five catches for 59 yards and a touchdown.

Advice: The undrafted rookie out of South Dakota State continues his march toward a roster spot. Zenner could have had an even bigger night, but had a 39-yard run called back by a holding penalty. Zenner doesn't mess around, getting the ball and moving. He now has 136 total yards on just 22 touches through two preseason games. Zenner could really make a case for himself in next week's regular season dress rehearsal against the Jaguars. Keep him stashed in Dynasty leagues. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 7:13 pm

  • Crowell rushes for 14 yards on 5 carries
Isaiah Crowell managed 14 yards on five carries in the Browns' second preseason game Thursday night.

Advice: Crowell played behind Terrance West in this one. Duke Johnson (hamstring) will be back for Cleveland's regular season dress rehearsal. Crowell busted a stiff-arming 13-yard run late in the second quarter, showing burst and power. Unfortunately, he managed one combined yard on his other four rushing attempts. Through two preseason contests, Crowell has just 20 yards on nine carries. With neither Crowell nor West running away with the job, the door is open for Johnson to take control of Cleveland's backfield once he gets up to speed physically. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 7:12 pm

  • Terrance West starts second preseason game
Terrance West rushed 11 times for 42 yards in the Browns' second preseason game Thursday night.

Advice: He got the start over Isaiah Crowell with Duke Johnson (hamstring) still on the mend. West blew a blitz protection on Cleveland's opening drive and continued to look generally pedestrian on his touches. He remains in a dogfight for carries in the Browns' backfield. Crowell had just 14 yards on five carries tonight. Through two preseason contests, West has 52 yards on 15 runs (3.47 YPC). Rotoworld.com Thursday, 7:03 pm

  • David Cobb will get an extended look Sunday
Titans coach Ken Whisenhunt said rookie RB David Cobb will get an extended look in the second preseason game.

Advice: After putting on a show with the backups, the Titans will likely give Cobb a chance to show what he can do with the first-team offense. After Bishop Sankey struggled mightily in the preseason opener, a good showing by Cobb could put him on the right side of Tennessee's likely backfield committee. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 9:38 am

  • DeMarco hopes to play 2nd preseason game
Eagles RB DeMarco Murray said he wants to play in the second preseason game.

Advice: "We’ll see how it goes," Murray said. "It’s obviously [Eagles coach Chip Kelly's] decision. But I felt good and I’m hoping to play." Murray was held out of most practice activities over the last two weeks as the Eagles try to manage his reps coming off a 436-carry season. He got in a full session of practice Wednesday. • Titans GM speaks highly of rookie RB Cobb
Titans GM Ruston Webster mentioned fifth-round RB David Cobb as a player who's stood out at training camp.

Advice: "Cobb has kind of shown what we saw from him at the Senior Bowl and in college, his ability to run the football, his vision and his feet," Webster said. "If he continues along that path he can help us." Beat writers have also been impressed with Cobb's ability to run the ball and hit the right hole in practices. Cobb averaged nearly five yards per carry in the preseason opener, while "starter" Bishop Sankey couldn't crack 2.0 YPC. Cobb is expected to get a longer look with the first-team offense this weekend against the Rams. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 10:11 am
