  • Eli Rogers expected to be Steelers No. 3 WR
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Ed Bouchette expects Eli Rogers to open the season as the Steelers' No. 3 receiver.

Advice: Bouchette calls Sammie Coates and Darrius Heyward-Bey "backups" behind Rogers, Markus Wheaton, and Antonio Brown. It's possible Bouchette's mind could change after Pittsburgh's third preseason game, where Ben Roethlisberger will see his first action this August. At this moment, however, Rogers is in the driver's seat to start in the slot in Week 1, with Wheaton moving outside. Rotoworld.com Today, 9:29 pm

  • Del Rio on Seth Roberts: He's been OK
Asked about Seth Roberts' training camp, Raiders coach Jack Del Rio said he's been "OK."

Advice: Del Rio hinted he hasn't been thrilled with his No. 3 wideout's effort this summer. "I think he's starting to feel pushed a little bit, which is what we'd like to have," Del Rio said. Roberts' job isn't in danger, as there's no one who could realistically "push" him. Hopefully the third-year UDFA has gotten the message. Roberts scored five touchdowns on 55 targets last season, and drew praise from Derek Carr earlier this summer. Rotoworld.com Today, 4:40 pm

  • 'Total expectation' Doctson ready for Week 1
Redskins coach Jay Gruden has "total expectation" Josh Doctson (Achilles) will be ready for Week 1.

Advice: "He did the route tree today, which is very positive," Gruden said Tuesday. "I have total expectation that he’s going to be ready Week 1, possibly the fourth preseason game, but we’ll still see. Like I said, it’s a new injury to me." Gruden also refused to rule out the reserve/PUP list in the same press conference, but it seems like coachspeak in the full context of his comments. The Redskins open the season 20 days from today. • Josh Doctson not yet ruled out for finale
The Redskins haven't ruled Josh Doctson (Achilles') out for their final preseason game.

Advice: It would ultimately be a surprise were Doctson to suit up. Coach Jay Gruden was as vague as possible on Doctson's status Tuesday, saying he expected him to be ready for Week 1 while still refusing to rule out the reserve/PUP list. Reserve/PUP is the worst-case scenario, but the opener doesn't seem terribly likely. Even if he's ready, Doctson would have to be on a strict snap count. Rotoworld.com Today, 11:57 am

Redskins WR Jamison Crowder is battling a sore knee.

  • Sean Payton: I would draft Michael Thomas
Saints coach Sean Payton says he would draft Michael Thomas if he played fantasy football.

Advice: Payton is often good for a colorful quote, but he's actually one of the league's least-reliable coaches when it comes to actions matching words. Thomas is certainly worthy of hype, but will be battling for targets in an offense crowded with talented pass catchers. He's closer to being a WR5 than WR3. Rotoworld.com Today, 10:36 am

  • Perriman has 'no doubt' he'll be ready Week 1
Breshad Perriman (knee) said he has "no doubt" he will be ready for Week 1.

Advice: Perriman reportedly "showed little effects" of his knee injury in his return to practice Tuesday. He is unlikely to play in the third preseason game this week, but it would not be surprising if he is cleared for team drills in the near future. Advice: Perriman was not wearing a brace, but Hensley said he "showed no hesitation" running routes and cutting around cones in individual drills. Hensley did report a "slight limp" when Perriman was walking between drills. • Boyd 'unquestioned leader' for No. 2 WR job?
Bengals.com's Geoff Hobson said second-rounder Tyler Boyd is the "unquestioned leader in the clubhouse" in the battle for the No. 2 receiver job.

Advice: This statement comes just a day after The Cincinnati Enquirer's Paul Dehner Jr. speculated the Bengals plan to ease Boyd into action. The primary takeaway here is this situation remains as fluid as any in the league. If Brandon LaFell (hand) can prove his health and effectiveness, he will likely open the season as the starter opposite A.J. Green with Boyd working from the slot. • Conditioning is Jordy Nelson's biggest worry
Jordy Nelson (knee) said conditioning is his biggest concern after sitting out all of last season.

Advice: Chemistry would seem to be the biggest concern after Nelson missed last year and likely all of the preseason, but the Packers do not seem to be worried. "He’s such an experienced person that literally like one rep in, he’s going to be back on his feet again," WRs coach Luke Getsy said. "I don’t think we have any issues or thoughts or worries about re-acclimating Jordy into this game." Nelson certainly carries risk as a 31-year-old coming off a serious injury, but he has the upside to finish as the top overall receiver. He is a fine pick in the second round. • Bears want Kevin White to be more physical
Alshon Jeffery said Kevin White needs to be more physical on the field.

Advice: "I just told him to play physical because he's big, he's strong and he's fast," Jeffery said. "[WRs] coach Curtis Johnson reminds him of that all the time." White has had a lackluster preseason, catching just two passes for nine yards, but he has managed to stay on the field after missing all of his rookie season with a stress fracture in his shin. That practice time has certainly aided in his development, and Jeffery said the sophomore is "taking coaching well." • Boyd still No. 3 receiver if LaFell healthy?
The Cincinnati Enquirer's Paul Dehner Jr. suggested second-rounder Tyler Boyd will still serve as the No. 3 receiver if Brandon LaFell (hand) is healthy.

Advice: LaFell returned to practice Sunday and is expected to play in the third preseason game. Boyd has made several big plays this preseason, but Dehner believes the Bengals want to ease him into the rotation. If LaFell stays healthy, Dehner does not believe Boyd will jump him on the depth chart until "somewhere in the Week 6-8 range" at the earliest. The spot opposite A.J. Harbaugh sounded pessimistic about Perriman's outlook just one week ago, but the sophomore now appears on track to return early in the season, although Harbaugh added the team is "holding our breath a little bit." "We have to put him out there and see what he is capable of doing." Seeing first-team work only days after returning to practice is a great sign for Gordon's role once he comes back from suspension. According to the Washington Post, "it remains possible" Redskins first-round pick Josh Doctson opens 2016 on the reserve/PUP list.

Advice: Reserve/PUP would cost him the first six games. Battling an Achilles' injury since the early spring, Doctson has yet to practice in training camp. He's supposed to resume running this week. The Post reports the Redskins "remain hopeful" Doctson will return to practice soon and play in their preseason finale, but all of that is up in the air. Saints second-round pick Michael Thomas managed one catch for five yards on two targets in Saturday night's preseason game.

Advice: After a big opener (4-67), Thomas took a step back in a prime opportunity with Brandin Cooks and Willie Snead resting. One of Thomas' two targets was intercepted, and he was seen being scolded by Sean Payton on the sideline afterwards. Jones tossed four interceptions, but Rogers made the most of his targets. The 5'10/187 slot man has drawn rave reviews from OC Todd Haley, and Ben Roethlisberger reportedly "loves" Rogers. Advice: Goodwin has been a training camp standout, running consistently with the first-team offense. He's ahead of Greg Salas, Leonard Hankerson, and Dez Lewis at this stage. Buffalo has one of the weakest depth charts in the league behind Sammy Watkins, but Goodwin isn't more than a deep threat. Rotoworld.com Aug 13, 12:57 pm

  • Jamison Crowder returns to practice
Jamison Crowder (hamstring) returned to practice on Saturday.

Advice: Crowder was held out of Washington's preseason opener, but didn't miss very much practice time. He will open the season as the Redskins' slot receiver. Rotoworld.com Aug 13, 12:19 pm

  • McAdoo hopeful Cruz (groin) back on Sunday
Giants coach Ben McAdoo said he is hopeful Victor Cruz (groin) will practice Sunday.

Advice: Cruz has not practiced since Tuesday because of a "tight groin" and missed the preseason opener Friday night. Normally this type of injury would not be a big deal, but Cruz has now sat out 31 consecutive preseason and regular season games. It sounds like that streak could come to an end next week, but the Giants cannot trust Cruz to stay healthy for the entire season. Rotoworld.com Aug 13, 6:16 am
