  • Vikings re-sign QB Brad Sorensen
    Vikings re-signed QB Brad Sorensen.

Advice: Sorensen was just cut on Monday, but the Vikings need his arm again after Teddy Bridgewater suffered a torn ACL and dislocated knee in Tuesday's practice. Minnesota will surely look for an upgrade on Sorensen in the coming days. For now, it's Shaun Hill, Sorensen, and UDFA Joel Stave. Rotoworld.com Today, 6:55 pm

  • Austin Davis visiting Cowboys on Wednesday
Free agent QB Austin Davis is visiting the Cowboys on Wednesday.

Advice: The Cowboys need a new No. 2 behind Dak Prescott, but Davis is unlikely to be the answer. The Cowboys probably want/need an extra arm for Thursday's preseason finale. Rotoworld.com Today, 4:34 pm

  • Patriots send Dion Lewis (knee) to PUP
Patriots placed RB Dion Lewis (knee) on the reserve/PUP list.

Advice: He will be eligible to return in Week 7, but it is unclear if he will be ready by then. After the team's Week 9 bye might be a more realistic target. Set to miss most of the fantasy year, Lewis does not need to be drafted in standard formats. Rotoworld.com Today, 2:11 pm

  • Derek Carrier stashed on reserve/PUP list
Redskins placed TE Derek Carrier (knee) on the reserve/PUP list.

  • Cowboys get down to 75 players
Cowboys waived WR Rodney Smith, OG Mike McQueen, OG Dan Buchholz, WR Richard Mullaney, CB Arjen Colquhoun and LB Henoc Muamba.

Advice: Colquhoun and Muamba were waived/injured. Smith hasn't appeared in a regular season game since 2014. Rotoworld.com Today, 1:21 pm

  • Bills place Listenbee on reserve/NFI
Bills placed rookie WR Kolby Listenbee on the reserve/NFI list.

Advice: He's eligible to return in Week 7. Listenbee underwent double sports hernia surgery and his recovery has been slowed by "pelvic inflammation." A burner with 4.39 wheels, Listenbee played college football for the TCU Horned Frogs. Rotoworld.com Today, 1:17 pm

  • Kellen Moore (broken ankle) heads to I.R.
Cowboys placed QB Kellen Moore on injured reserve with a broken ankle, ending his season.

Advice: With Tony Romo out months with a back injury, the Cowboys need a new No. 2 quarterback behind rookie starter Dak Prescott. It's a major concern for a team with its usual playoff designs. Now 27, Moore will head into 2017 with 104 career attempts, all of which came last season. He's unlikely to ever get another chance at No. 2 duties. Rotoworld.com Today, 1:15 pm

  • Patriots apparently 'shopping' Aaron Dobson
The MMQB's Albert Breer reports the Patriots are "shopping" Aaron Dobson.

Advice: They're shopping him because he'll be cut if/when they can't find a trade partner. Dobson has played over 100 snaps this summer, but has a modest six catches for 96 yards to show for it. Always hurt and mistake-prone, Dobson probably won't fetch a conditional day-three pick. Rotoworld.com Today, 11:48 am

  • Carlos Hyde gains first clearance
Carlos Hyde (concussion) has been cleared for non-football activities.

  • Robert Griffin III, starters will play Thurs
Browns coach Hue Jackson said his starters will play in the preseason finale Thursday.

Advice: Teams usually rest their starters in the final preseason game, but several coaches have decided to break that mold this year. "I feel comfortable that we need to play our starters on both sides of the ball," Jackson said. "We need to get better as a football team as we continue to move forward." It is unlikely a quarter of football against backups will spark a bottom-five roster to a winning season, but it is worth a shot. Rotoworld.com Today, 7:36 am

  • Brandon Pettigrew (ACL) opens season on PUP
Lions placed TE Brandon Pettigrew (ACL) on the reserve/PUP.

Advice: The veteran is attempting to come back from a December ACL tear. The move will cost Pettigrew at least the first six weeks of the season. With Eric Ebron (ankle) questionable for Week 1, the Lions are extremely thin at tight end. Detroit also cut CB Brandon McGee to reach the 75-man roster limit. Rotoworld.com Today, 7:26 am

  • Bengals move on from WR/KR Brandon Tate
    Bengals released WR/KR Brandon Tate.

Advice: This is a bit surprising considering how important Tate is on special teams and the fact he worked at times with the first-team offense in the preseason, but the Bengals are clearly trying to get younger at receiver. Tate should be able to find a new home. Rotoworld.com Today, 7:23 am

  • Miller, Royal finally cleared from concussion
Bears TE Zach Miller and WR Eddie Royal returned to full practice Monday.

Advice: Both had been limited for almost a month because of concussions. Now fully cleared, both can return to game action, although it is unlikely either suits up in the preseason finale Thursday night. Miller has struggled to stay healthy throughout his career, but he has TE1 upside if he can remain on the field. Rotoworld.com Today, 5:18 am

  • Browns cut ties with QB Austin Davis
Browns waived/released QB Austin Davis, DL Nick Hayden, DB Sean Baker, WR Josh Boyce, WR Ed Eagan, FB Robert Hughes, TE David Reeves, OL Cory Tucker, TE E.J. Bibbs, and K Travis Coons.

Advice: They also sent RB Glenn Winston (shoulder) and DL Nile Lawrence-Stample (shoulder) to injured reserve. Cleveland has one more move to make before tomorrow's deadline. Davis was an expected cut, but it is a reminder the team ridiculously gave him a three-year contract with a $500,000 signing bonus and $600,000 guaranteed last September. Barely more than a camp arm, he might not find a new home right away. With Coons cut, Patrick Murray has won the kicking competition. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 5:20 am

  • Zach Miller, Eddie Royal still sitting out
Bears TE Zach Miller and WR Eddie Royal will not play Saturday against the Chiefs.

Advice: Both have returned to practice, but the Bears are being cautious as the duo recover from concussions. Miller has TE1 upside if he can stay healthy, but that has been an issue throughout his career. After an injury-plagued first season in Chicago, Royal should serve as the No. 3 this year. RG Kyle Long (shoulder) and OLB Pernell McPhee (knee) are also sitting out. Rotoworld.com Saturday, 9:43 am

  • Carlos Hyde suffers concussion Friday night
Carlos Hyde suffered a concussion in the first half of the 49ers' preseason game Friday night.

Advice: Hyde didn't get to play much with Colin Kaepernick because he left early with the brain injury. Hyde will now be placed into the NFL's concussion protocol. He has 15 days to receive clearance in time for Week 1 against the Rams. Rotoworld.com Friday, 10:54 pm

  • Carlos Hyde's preseason: 15-85-1 rushing
Carlos Hyde rushed four times for 30 yards in the 49ers' third preseason game.

Advice: If the Niners put Hyde on ice for the preseason finale, he'll finish August with 85 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries (5.67 YPC). Hyde ripped off a 27-yard run on Friday night, setting up Quinton Patton's three-yard TD. Hyde managed three yards on his other four runs. Hyde is locked in as San Francisco's bellcow back. We'll be interested to see whether the 49ers' ineptitude cuts into Hyde's fantasy production. He's got plenty of ability in his own right. Rotoworld.com Friday, 9:43 pm

  • Aaron Dobson catches 2-for-49 Friday night
Aaron Dobson hauled in 2-of-3 targets for 49 yards in the Patriots' third preseason game Friday night.

Advice: Dobson turned Tom Brady's first pass into a nice 37-yard catch-and-run, but he had another pass knocked out of his hands on the sideline later in the game. Dobson saw plenty of work with the first-team offense Friday night, but he will likely be supplanted by Malcolm Mitchell (elbow) once the rookie gets healthy. Rotoworld.com Friday, 7:40 pm

  • RG3 pummeled in regular season tune-up vs. TB
Robert Griffin III completed 8-of-14 passes for 119 yards and one touchdown in the Browns' third preseason game Friday night.

Advice: The Bucs field one of the least-inspiring pass-rush groups in the league, but they recorded five sacks on RGIII in the first half, while knocking him down a number of other times. They especially got after the quarterback on third down, as coach Hue Jackson dialed up a lot of long-developing plays only to see his offensive line not hold its blocks. RGIII finished on a high note, however, hitting Josh Gordon deep for a 43-yard touchdown. Gordon did all the work, manhandling pint-sized CB Brent Grimes and adjusting to the ball in the air. Last week, RGIII looked phenomenal. Tonight, he was pummeled. The inconsistency is what keeps him a boom-or-bust QB2. Rotoworld.com Friday, 6:45 pm

  • Report: Dion Lewis (knee) to miss 8-10 weeks
The Boston Herald reports Dion Lewis' knee surgery will sideline him for 8-10 weeks.

Advice: The procedure is viewed as "relatively minor," but was required following Lewis' ACL tear last November. He was presumably dealing with loose particles in the knee. A source told the Herald that Lewis still "has a good chance of playing in 2016," even if he is likely to open on the season on reserve/PUP. The Herald adds that James White "has had the best summer of his three-year career." Rotoworld.com Aug 21, 2:04 pm

  • Lewis' knee surgery a 'clean-up' operation
Dion Lewis' second knee procedure will be a "clean-up" surgery.

Advice: It's an important distinction and it leaves the door open for a return later this season. It's still likely Lewis will open 2016 on the reserve/PUP list, which would cost him at least the first six games. Receiving back James White will get a lot more usage with Lewis sidelined. • Report: Dion Lewis needs 2nd surgery on knee
The Boston Globe reports Dion Lewis needs a second surgery on his already surgically repaired knee.

Advice: James White just got a lot more interesting. Lewis tore his ACL last November 8. Although he's been seen in the Patriots' locker room getting around normally and without a brace, Lewis' need for more surgery will almost certainly keep him on reserve/PUP for New England's first six games. The news makes Lewis a tough sell as a fantasy pick in normal-sized leagues. White is now worthy of serious consideration in the mid-to-late rounds of PPR drafts. Rotoworld.com Aug 21, 9:09 am

  • Dion Lewis (knee) could still land on reserve/PUP
ESPN Patriots reporter Mike Reiss said Dion Lewis (ACL) starting the year on the reserve/PUP list will become a "stronger possibility" if he doesn't practice this week.

Advice: Reiss believes coach Bill Belichick is considering having Lewis sit out the first six games of the regular season, which would give him almost a full calendar year to recover from a torn ACL. Lewis was on the field for New England's last spring practice but hasn't suited up for any of the team's training camp activities and remains on the active/PUP list. For what it's worth, Reiss doesn't expect the Patriots to pursue Karlos Williams, who was cut by the Bills last week. Rotoworld.com Aug 21, 5:53 am

  • Carlos Hyde works as 49ers every-down back
Carlos Hyde rushed six times for 28 yards and a touchdown in the 49ers' second preseason game Saturday night.

Advice: Hyde was stuffed repeatedly to begin the game, but got some daylight when Denver removed its starting front seven after a few possessions and peeled off a 20-yard un-touched run. Hyde followed up with a four-yard touchdown against the Broncos' backups. Most importantly, Hyde has been utilized on all three downs through two preseason contests and is looking like a legit every-down back. Blaine Gabbert has targeted Hyde four times on checkdowns, although none of them have been complete. Expect a lot more playing time for Hyde in the 49ers' regular season dress rehearsal next week.
