  • Trent Richardson among Raiders' initial cuts
    Raiders waived RB Trent Richardson.

Advice: Oakland will eat the $600,000 it guaranteed Richardson back in March. We figured the Colts' release of Richardson would serve as a swift kick in the pants for the former No. 3 overall pick, but he ended up reporting to Raiders camp overweight and didn't impress anyone in the organization this preseason, rushing for 42 scoreless yards on 15 carries (2.8 YPC) and breaking one measly tackle. Richardson is running out of chances, but we expect him to get one more. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 3:43 pm

  • Rishard Matthews to start over Kenny Stills?
Rishard Matthews started the Dolphins' third preseason game over Kenny Stills.

Advice: Stills battled a calf injury early in camp and missed the first couple weeks of practice in addition to the first preseason game. Across 35 snaps this preseason, Stills has caught 3-of-4 targets for 31 scoreless yards. It's still early, and Stills has gobs of talent, but he needs to stay on the field and start building a rapport with Ryan Tannehill. Jarvis Landry, Greg Jennings, and Matthews started on Saturday, with Stills mixing in behind them. OC Bill Lazor recently praised Matthews. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 3:19 pm

  • Jags GM hopes Julius Thomas returns by Week 4
Jaguars GM Dave Caldwell called Week 4 a "realistic" return target for Julius Thomas (hand surgery).

Advice: Thomas has already been essentially ruled out for the first three games of the season. It sounds like returning in Week 4 against the Colts would be a best case scenario. Expect Allen Robinson to be a target monster in the meantime, and for Allen Hurns to also see a bump in early-season usage. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 2:20 pm

  • Julius Thomas (finger) likely to miss 4-5 wks
Julius Thomas is expected to require surgery on his broken hand, and will be sidelined 4-5 weeks.

Advice: Specifically, Thomas needs surgery on a finger tendon. For what it's worth, Thomas is getting a second opinion on Tuesday. He can safely be ruled out for Weeks 1-3, and is highly questionable for Week 4. Considering Thomas' injury history, it's not a guarantee he'll be back for Week 5. It's a major concern for the Jags' entire offense, as Thomas' presence won't be commanding attention in the red zone as Blake Bortles looks to build on his big summer. Clay Harbor is the next man up at tight end. Already a low-end TE1, the injury-prone Thomas is firmly a TE2 for the final week of drafting. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 1:33 pm

  • Jordan Norwood has 7 preseason catches
Broncos WR Jordan Norwood has seven catches for 67 yards this preseason.

Advice: Norwood played extensively with the Peyton Manning group in Denver's third preseason game, replacing Emmanuel Sanders (hamstring) at slot receiver. When the Broncos' receiver crew is fully healthy, Sanders will man the inside in three-wide sets, with Demaryius Thomas and Cody Latimer aligning on the perimeter. Norwood is a crafty slot man, but he's low on talent as a 29-year-old former UDFA out of Penn State. He's just completing for a roster spot in Denver. Norwood missed all of 2014 with a torn ACL. The Bills have confirmed Tyrod Taylor will be their starting quarterback.

Advice: "It all comes down to the explosiveness Tyrod brings to us," were the words of coach Rex Ryan. Taylor is certainly explosive, but has lacked passing finesse going back to his days at Virginia Tech. He'll be someone the Bills try to hide, hoping for rushing yards and big plays. ESPN Boston's Mike Reiss wouldn't rule out the Patriots making a run at free agent Fred Jackson.

Advice: Reiss isn't reporting the Pats are already displaying interest, but bases his guess on coach Bill Belichick's longtime affinity for his division rival, and the team's unsettled situation at running back. • RGIII era officially over in Washington D.C.
Robert Griffin III has been benched.

Advice: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the Days of Our Lives. Beset by never-ending drama and an inability to stay at 100 percent, RGIII has met his predictable end for the league's most dysfunctional franchise. It's possible he won't even be the first man off the bench, with vanilla coach Jay Gruden preferring Colt McCoy's pop-gun skill-set to RGIII's unrefined dual-threat aesthetic. Much of Griffin's issues are his own doing, but he's received zero help from a franchise that's offered bafflingly little support since making him a centerpiece three years ago. Advice: Gruden said Cousins "is the best quarterback on our roster" and will be the starter for all of 2015. That may be the intention today, but nothing in the Redskins' recent history suggests they will slide through the entire season with one quarterback. Taylor only attempted 35 regular season passes as Joe Flacco's backup in Baltimore for four seasons, but he offers the Bills a rushing dimension veteran Matt Cassel cannot match. Advice: Pryor has missed the entire preseason slate after going down with a hamstring injury early in camp, and Pettine said last week the window was closing on him making the team. Releasing Jackson suggests the Bills are confident Karlos Williams (illness) and LeSean McCoy (hamstring) will be ready Week 1. An eight-year veteran, Jackson has been with Buffalo his entire career. Despite the lack of trade talk, La Canfora called Griffin's future with the organization "murky at best." A source told The Washington Post the report was "100 percent wrong." Even if Washington wanted to move Griffin, they would struggle to find any takers. • RGIII plays coy on concussion status
Robert Griffin III won't say if he suffered a concussion in last Thursday's preseason game.

Advice: The scuttlebutt has been that Washington made up RGIII's concussion so he could avoid talking to the media following a disastrous performance. "You’ve got to talk to the people who report that stuff," Griffin said. "I don’t report that stuff. I was in the locker room, taking a shower, getting ready to watch the rest of the game, so I don’t know." Even by Washington's standards, this is a ridiculous melodrama. RGIII will play in Saturday's regular season dress rehearsal. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 1:24 pm

  • Terrelle Pryor unsure of Saturday status
Terrelle Pryor (hamstring) is unsure if he'll be available for Saturday's preseason game.

Advice: Pryor said it depends on how he feels Friday. Already sidelined for Cleveland's first two preseason games, Pryor's roster odds could take a critical blow if he isn't ready for the regular season dress rehearsal. Of course, the Browns find themselves so short of premium athletes on offense that they may be willing to roll the dice on Pryor regardless of what he does the rest of the summer. • Victor Cruz (calf) sitting out on Saturday
Victor Cruz (calf) will miss Saturday's preseason game against the Jets.

Advice: It means Cruz will miss the entire preseason. Coming back from a devastating knee injury, Cruz remains on track for Week 1. He's in the WR3 conversation. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 11:09 am

  • Bills may rotate QBs in third preseason game
The Bills could use all three of their quarterbacks with the first-team offense in Saturday’s preseason game.

Advice: "I’m not going to tip my hand, but you are very intelligent," Rex Ryan said when asked if Buffalo would rotate quarterbacks. Most teams use the third preseason game as a regular season dress rehearsal, with the starters playing into the second half. The Bills using it as a deciding factor for their starting quarterback would be a concern from a chemistry standpoint. Buffalo’s offense has rarely played together this preseason, with LeSean McCoy, Sammy Watkins, Robert Woods, and Percy Harvin all dealing with injuries. Tyrod Taylor is the favorite to start Week 1, but the Bills have been giving first-team practice reps to all three quarterbacks. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 2:39 pm

  • Terrelle Pryor (hammy) back in full pads Wed.
Terrelle Pryor (hamstring) returned to practice Wednesday.

Advice: Pryor had to get back to practice this week if he's going to make the roster. He initially injured his hamstring the first week of August, returned August 15, but re-tweaked it on the 18th, and had been out until today. Pryor missed the Browns' initial scrimmage and the first two preseason games. He's going to need to make some sort of impression the next two weeks to earn a spot. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 10:53 am

  • Gruden: We're not benching Robert Griffin III
Redskins coach Jay Gruden is adamant he won't be benching Robert Griffin III.

Advice: RGIII will start Saturday's game against the Ravens after suffering a concussion last week. Kirk Cousins will be the first man off the bench, suggesting he has a leg up on Colt McCoy for No. 2 duties. Although Griffin has never looked like a fit for Gruden's offense, he's still the only one of Washington's quarterbacks with anything resembling upside. That being said, one of Cousins and McCoy — and quite possibly both — will likely make starts this season. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 12:38 pm

  • Victor Cruz confirms calf is the issue
Victor Cruz confirmed he is dealing with inflammation in his calf.

Advice: Cruz said he should be good to go by the season opener, but any missed time is concerning coming off a devastating knee injury. Coach Tom Coughlin said he would like to get Cruz involved in the third preseason game, but that appears unlikely. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 9:55 am

  • Terrelle Pryor back on the roster bubble?
ESPN Cleveland believes Terrelle Pryor's (hamstring) roster odds could come down to the next 72 hours.

Advice: Reporter Tony Grossi believes Pryor "has" to practice this week and play in Saturday's regular season dress rehearsal to have a realistic shot at making the team. Coach Mike Pettine has basically said the same. Pryor was looking like a lock in early August, but at this point, his odds are probably worse than 50-50. Switching positions, he simply couldn't afford to miss as much camp time as he has. Rotoworld.com Monday, 11:16 am

  • Robert Griffin III already cleared
Robert Griffin III (head) returned to full-squad practice on Sunday.

Advice: There have been rumors the Redskins fabricated RG3's preseason concussion in order to keep Griffin from having to deal with media after the game. He's apparently already been cleared and resumed working with the first-team offense. Rotoworld.com Aug 23, 11:38 am

  • Trent Richardson again fails to shine
Trent Richardson rushed five times for five yards in Saturday's preseason game against the Vikings.

Advice: T-Rich has just 23 yards on 10 preseason carries (2.3 YPC). His roster odds are hanging on for dear life. Rotoworld.com Aug 22, 9:27 pm

  • Victor Cruz (knee) officially ruled out
Victor Cruz (knee) will miss Saturday's preseason game.

  • Pettine: Window narrowing for Terrelle Pryor
Browns coach Mike Pettine said the window for WR Terrelle Pryor (hamstring) to make the team "narrows every day that he's not out there."

Advice: Pryor started out his career as a wide receiver strong, earning consistent praise early in camp. A hamstring injury has cost Pryor the first two preseason games and most of the last two weeks of practice. Once considered a good bet to make the final 53, it appears Pryor's roster chances are slipping away. Rotoworld.com Aug 22, 9:55 am

  • Rex: No decision on starter for third game
Bills coach Rex Ryan said the team has not decided who their starting quarterback will be for the third preseason game.

Advice: The third preseason game is traditionally used as a dress rehearsal for the regular season, meaning the starter in that game would likely be the starter Week 1. Ryan has already said he plans to wait until the last minute to name a starting quarterback, so it is not surprising he has declined to name a starter for the rehearsal. Matt Cassel and Tyrod Taylor rotated first-team snaps in practice on Saturday, but Taylor remains the favorite to open the season as the starter. Rotoworld.com Aug 22, 9:35 am

  • Ryan Broyles has lost some explosiveness
The Lions' official website said WR Ryan Broyles has lost some of his explosiveness.

Advice: After two ACL surgeries and a torn Achilles', it is not surprising Broyles is not the same player he was at Oklahoma. Broyles is not expected to make the Lions' final roster, and he could be nearing the end of his career. He is not worth stashing in Dynasty formats. Rotoworld.com Aug 22, 7:39 am

  • Fred Jackson (hamstring) returns to practice
Fred Jackson (hamstring) returned to practice on Saturday.

Advice: Jackson has been sidelined since early August with a hamstring issue. Jackson's return should be a big boost to the Bills' running back corps, which is missing LeSean McCoy (hamstring), Karlos Williams (illness), Bryce Brown (hamstring) and Boobie Dixon (calf).
