julio's Optimal Team Shocks and Destroys Pistol Offense, Rises to Fifth Place

    Week 12

    • julio's Optimal Team
    • 7-5
    • Weekly Grade: C+
    • 82.16
    • Pistol Offense
    • 6-6
    • Weekly Grade: F
    • 54.24

Underdog. Schmunderdog. julio's Optimal Team overcame a 12.61-point projected spread to demolish Pistol Offense 82.16 to 54.24 for the upset. They picked up a team-leading 26.70 points from Demaryius Thomas and 17.30 from Ryan Mathews. A win is a win, but this one tastes just a bit sweeter for julio's Optimal Team who gets revenge for a 69.40 to 34.24 pasting by Pistol Offense in Week 3. Free fallin' like Tom Petty, Pistol Offense suffered a significant drop in scoring from last week's 76.92 to 70.02 win against Lund's Team. Each team left something on the table as julio's Optimal Team had three starters turn in zero points and Pistol Offense had one. julio's Optimal Team (7-5, 956.42 points) climbs into fifth place while Pistol Offense (6-6, 881.58 points) stays down in eighth place.

Smooth Moves by julio's Optimal Team

    • We won't judge you if you want to bow to Demaryius Thomas. He ranked fourth in the league in scoring with 26.70 points.
    • The 17.30 points scored by Ryan Mathews was the sixth-highest score of any RB in the league this week.
    • Even with three starters scoring zero points, julio's Optimal Team was still able to win.
    • The Seattle Seahawks Defense had a season-high 14.00 points and beat their projected point total by 95.2%, the 10th-highest percentage in the league.
    • With only 3 of their 9 starters beating their projected points, julio's Optimal Team was still able to win.

    Toyota Roster Tune-up

    • Pistol Offense should get prescription glasses. At least we assume that's why they didn't bother reading the expert articles from the Toyota Hall Of Fame.
    • Did not start Drew Brees, who led the league in scoring with 29.30 points.
    • With -1.00 point against a projected 6.34, the Denver Broncos Defense had the lowest point total in the league this week and has now scored below their projection in four straight games.
    • A heated blanket would be a great gift for Colin Kaepernick during this cold streak. He scored below his projection in five straight games after scoring 14.64 points against a projected 20.34 this week.
    • Martellus Bennett has now failed to reach his projection for three straight games. This week he scored 3.70 points versus a projected 8.04.

    What If

    • julio's Optimal Team would be 7-5 if they played Pistol Offense every week.
    • julio's Optimal Team would have beaten five other teams besides Pistol Offense this week.
    • If they played the same schedule as Pistol Offense, julio's Optimal Team would be 7-3.
    • If julio's Optimal Team had played every team in the league each week, they would be 61-47.
    • Pistol Offense would have been beaten by every other team in the league this week.
    • And they say procrastination doesn't pay off! Had they played each other last week, julio's Optimal Team would have lost to Pistol Offense 76.92 - 69.42.
    • If they played the same schedule as julio's Optimal Team, Pistol Offense would be 6-4.
    • If they played every team every week, Pistol Offense would be 49-59.

    Fantasy MasterpiecesWeek 12

Fred Taylor JAC - RB 2000 vs. Pittsburgh 33 touches, 248 total yards, 4 TDs Fred Taylor earned the nickname "Fragile" because of the frequency of which he would land on the NFL injury report.

But when he was healthy, he was a sight to behold. And the pinnacle of his career was in Week 12 of '12, when he rolled up the Pittsburgh defense for 248 yards and four touchdowns. For fantasy owners, it was an amazing time to own the Jacksonville back. After sitting out the first three games of that season (we mentioned that he was fragile, right?), he returned to post modest numbers in his his three games back in the lineup. But his 10 game run to close out the '00 campaign is the stuff of legend. From Weeks 7-16, Taylor went straight games with at least 100 rushing yards. And over the final seven games of the season, he amassed a whopping 13 TDs, including a hat trick+1 in Week 12 and another hat trick (and 181 rushing yards) two weeks later.
Each week of the season we will bring you the top fantasy football performances of the past 10+ years for that week.
