Kolb says the after-effects of the concussions still haunt him today. • Rivers tosses two picks in loss to Broncos
Philip Rivers completed 30-of-41 passes for 252 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions in San Diego's 35-21, Week 8 loss to the Broncos.

Advice: Going up against the Broncos' daunting pass rush, Rivers had his worst game of the season. The multi-turnover effort was his first of 2014, while his 6.15 YPA was his lowest of the year by nearly half a yard. Rivers had little time to throw, and made some "old school" Rivers decisions as a result. Both of his interceptions were passes that should not have been thrown, but especially the second. Rivers launched a Norv Turner-style bomb into double coverage to Malcom Floyd, and it was easily picked by Rahim Moore. Coming off a grueling five-day stretch — and back-to-back losses — Rivers now has 10 days to rest up for San Diego's Week 9 trip to Miami. Rotoworld.com

Peyton Manning completed 25-of-35 passes for 286 yards and three touchdowns in Denver's 35-21, Week 8 win over the Chargers.

Advice: Touchdowns No. 511, 512 and 513 all went to Emmanuel Sanders, who entered the game with one score on the season. Manning simply picked apart a secondary missing Brandon Flowers and Jason Verrett, and is now up to 22 touchdowns through seven games. That puts him on pace for 50, which would amazingly be five fewer than he tossed last season. Manning has 10 days to rest up for nemesis New England in Week 9. Rotoworld.com

Advice: "We are searching to find out what's best," were the words of OC Jason Michael. "(Mettenberger is a) confident guy who has played in a big environment. We are confident in him." That may be true, but it doesn't get more desperate than throwing a sixth-rounder to the J.J. Watt-led wolves in his first NFL start. Mettenberger isn't on the Week 8 daily-league radar. • Titans bench Jake Locker
The Titans have benched Jake Locker.

Advice: In the last year of his rookie contract, Locker has likely played his final down as a Titan. ESPN's Adam Caplan -- who's had a great read on the Titans since the draft -- "can't see" a scenario where Locker gets his job back barring an implosion by or injury to new starter Zach Mettenberger. If this is indeed it for Locker's Titans career, he will finish with 26 touchdown passes, 24 turnovers, and a 57.3 completion rate. Although Locker has myriad flaws, he has a strong enough arm and enough athleticism to resurface in 2015 as a useful NFL backup. Locker simply doesn't throw the ball with enough accuracy to be a consistent big-league starter. He's also been wildly injury prone in the pros. Rotoworld.com

  • Titans insert rookie Zach Mettenberger at QB
The Nashville Tennessean reports the Titans will start sixth-round rookie Zach Mettenberger at quarterback in Week 8 against the Texans.

Advice: Having already lost hope for the 2014 season, the Titans will start playing their pups. Injury-prone, contract-year quarterback Jake Locker has been formally demoted. It's believed Mettenberger was informed of coach Ken Whisenhunt's decision to start him on Tuesday night, which perhaps explains why none of Tennessee's quarterbacks were allowed to speak with the media on Wednesday. A strong-armed LSU product albeit with zero mobility, Mettenberger will make his first NFL start against J.J. Watt's Texans in a home game. Advice: He was only sacked once, although Oakland did get pressure on Palmer, particularly in the second half. Palmer put the Cardinals ahead with a two-yard touchdown pass to Stepfan Taylor and a 33-yard score to Michael Floyd in the first half. He was picked in the second quarter by Charles Woodson on a slightly off-target pass that was deflected by TE John Carlson. Cards coach Bruce Arians reportedly emphasized increased balance on offense during the practice week, so Taylor handled more work than usual and Arizona finished with 31 pass attempts compared to 37 runs, one week after Palmer fired off an untenable 44 throws. That being said, his second score, a 27-yarder to Antonio Gates, was a fluke pass that bounced off a defender's hands. Since being left for dead in Week 4, Brady has completed 70-of-119 passes (58.8 percent) for 914 yards, nine touchdowns and zero interceptions. That being said, tonight was Brady's worst start since getting back on track, as he threw a host of wobblers en route to a 54.1 completion percentage and 7.05 YPA. Robert Griffin III (ankle) was limited in Wednesday and Thursday's practices.

Advice: RGIII isn't returning for Sunday's game against the Titans, but Week 8 is beginning to look like a real possibility. The Redskins' bye isn't until Week 10, and there's no reason for foot dragging after Kirk Cousins predictably went in the tank. If Griffin was dropped in your 12-14 team league, now could be a good time to take a flier if you're looking to mix things up at quarterback. Rotoworld.com

  • Tony Romo back at practice Thursday
Tony Romo (ribs, ankle) returned to practice Thursday.

Advice: He was "full." Romo took a wicked shot from Seahawks LB Bobby Wagner early in the win at Seattle, but didn't miss any time. He'll be fine for Sunday's game against the Giants. Rotoworld.com

  • Philip Rivers sets record for passer rating
Philip Rivers has recorded a passer rating of 120.0 or more in five straight games, an NFL record.

Advice: Rivers isn't just playing at an MVP level, he's playing at an all-time level. Over the last five weeks, he's averaging 303.6 passing yards per game with 14 touchdowns and one interception while completing 71.7 percent of his passes. The Chargers have won all five games. Rivers figures to stay hot Sunday against a Chiefs defense lacking talent at the corner positions. Rotoworld.com

  • Tom Brady (ankle) probable for TNF vs. Jets
Tom Brady (ankle) is probable for Thursday night's Week 7 game against the Jets.

Advice: Pay no attention to Brady's ankle "injury." He's worth streaming consideration as a back-end QB1 in a gravy matchup against the Jets' woeful pass defense. Rotoworld.com

  • Carson Palmer (shoulder) practicing in full
Carson Palmer (shoulder) is practicing in full for Week 7.

Advice: Palmer didn't suffer any setbacks in Sunday's win and will be safe to use as a streamer against the Raiders. Despite not being 100 percent, coach Bruce Arians said Palmer's arm strength is "more than serviceable." Rotoworld.com

  • Gruden: RGIII will be the starter once cleared
Coach Jay Gruden confirmed Robert Griffin III (ankle) will be the Redskins' starting quarterback once he's cleared and "ready physically and mentally."

Advice: Gruden said that could happen in one week, or it could be five weeks. But it's clear at the moment RGIII is going to get the starts under center in Washington once healthy. Kirk Cousins has "led" the Redskins to four consecutive losses, but there's always a chance he could catch fire and force Gruden to keep him in the lineup. The chances of that happening are minimal, as Cousins is a turnover machine and has never shown the ability to win games at the NFL level. There remains a chance Griffin could be back before the Week 10 bye. Rotoworld.com

  • Locker, Whitehurst split reps Wednesday
Jake Locker (thumb) returned to practice Wednesday.

Advice: Locker "did everything," though he and Charlie Whitehurst split reps with the starters as the Titans appeared to ease Locker back into action. Coach Ken Whisenhunt said Locker is his starter when healthy. He may be a game-time call. Rotoworld.com

  • Romo (ribs, ankle) doesn't practice Wednesday
Tony Romo (ribs, ankle) did not practice Wednesday.

Advice: It's the fifth straight Wednesday Romo has been held out, though this is more than just maintenance for his back issue. Romo suffered injuries to his ribs and ankle during Sunday's win. His status will be updated again on Thursday. Rotoworld.com
