  • Hunter-Mettenberger connected in preseason
Justin Hunter says he and Zach Mettenberger had a "good rhythm going" during training camp and preseason.

Advice: "I'm really interested to see how it will all turn out in a real game," Hunter continued. Of the Titans' regular receivers, sophomore Hunter spent the most time with Mettenberger's group over summer. The two showed great chemistry in the preseason when Hunter caught ten passes for 217 yards and two touchdowns. Mettenberger has a rocket arm unlike Checkdown Charlie Whithurst, and TE Delanie Walker says the deep ball will be a "focus" of the offense Week 8 against the Texans. Hunter knows how to run the "go" route. Rotoworld.com

Speaking Thursday, Jaguars coach Gus Bradley confirmed Denard Robinson will remain the starting running back for Week 8 even with Toby Gerhart (foot) returning.

Advice: Bradley said Gerhart will get "some reps," but Gerhart was being phased out of his starting job even before he started missing games. He'll fight for scraps with Jordan Todman and Storm Johnson behind Shoelace. Robinson is the only Jaguars' runner worth starting for Week 8, though he has a difficult matchup in the Dolphins' solid run defense. Rotoworld.com

Speaking Thursday, Colts OC Pep Hamilton called third-round WR Donte Moncrief "ahead of schedule."

Advice: Moncrief will be in for an increased Week 8 role if Reggie Wayne (elbow) can't go. "He’s a guy that we feel like at any given moment we can plug in and he can perform," Hamilton said of his rookie wideout. Moncrief is an intriguing talent — and out-snapped Hakeem Nicks 23-19 in Week 7 — but is still a tough sell as anything more than a WR5. He's more of a daily-league dart throw than re-draft option. Browns coach Mike Pettine noted that Raiders WR Brice Butler "jumps off the tape."

Advice: We've noticed the same thing. Butler was spectacular in the preseason, catching 13 passes for 206 yards with four touchdowns. He's also starting to earn a bigger role in the regular season, as evidenced by his nine targets over the last three weeks. Butler, a 2013 seventh-round pick, should be owned in Dynasty formats. • Report: Teams calling about Nate Washington
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports teams have been calling the Titans about Nate Washington's availability.

Advice: This unofficially translates to, "We, the Titans, would love to trade Nate Washington." Already demoted in favor of Justin Hunter, Washington is just taking up roster and cap space on Tennessee's 53, and could probably be had for a conditional seventh-round pick. Unfortunately for the Titans, Washington has a guaranteed $4.8 million base salary and isn't worth half that much. They'd be lucky to get a bag of punctured footballs for him. Rotoworld.com

"The Jaguars are going to limit his workload in the 15-20 carry range…but I think the main job is going to be Robinson's." • Jets sign Kerley to four-year, $16M extension
Jets signed WR Jeremy Kerley to a four-year, $16 million extension through 2018.

Advice: The deal includes $5.4 million guaranteed. It's a lot of money for a run-of-the-mill slot man. The timing is odd, as the Jets just acquired Percy Harvin, and Kerley is mired in an underwhelming season. Kerley was heading into the final year of his rookie contract, however. The deal almost certainly doesn't include any guaranteed money beyond 2015. The Jets now have each of Kerley, Harvin and Eric Decker signed through 2018. Advice: Hunter has now played on 177-of-185 snaps (95.6 percent) since taking over the starting "X" job from Nate Washington three games ago. Yet he's seen just 12 targets during that span, totaling a disappointing 7-182-1 line in plus matchups. Hunter remains a boom-or-bust WR3, but one that will get a boost if strong-armed Jake Locker (thumb) can get back in the lineup. Although Butler is big and fast and sometimes flashes big-play ability, he doesn't get nearly enough usage to be even a WR6 in fantasy leagues. Rotoworld.com

Advice: Looking like a legitimate running back, the converted Michigan quarterback mixed chain-moving gains with explosive runs on the perimeter.
