  • Dolphins waive six players
Dolphins waived TE Brett Brackett, CB Steven Clarke, DE Rakim Cox, DT Cory Grissom, C Tyler Larsen and WR Ryan Spadola.

Advice: A fourth-year undrafted free agent, Brackett caught five passes for 69 yards this preseason. He's never appeared in a regular-season game, and is unlikely to do so. Rotoworld.com

  • Dolphins send fifth-round TE Lynch to I.R.
Dolphins placed TE Arthur Lynch on injured reserve with a back injury, ending his season.

Advice: A fifth-round blocker, Lynch missed the entire preseason. He'll be back to compete for one of the Dolphins' final roster spots in 2015. Rotoworld.com

  • Packers cut TE Lyerla with injury settlement
Packers waived TE Colt Lyerla with an injury settlement.

Advice: Lyerla sees the open market after all. The Packers clearly weren't high on the UDFA out of Oregon after he showed next to nothing during camp. Lyerla is a plus athlete at 6'4/247 with 4.61 speed. But we wouldn't expect teams to come knocking down his door after Lyerla wasn't claimed off waivers the first time. Lyerla also isn't healthy after injuring multiple knee ligaments. Rotoworld.com

  • Bengals continue slashing roster
Bengals waived TE Kevin Brock, QB Matt Scott, and WR Jasper Collins.

Advice: Brock appeared in four games for the Chiefs last season before signing with the Bengals in the playoffs. Collins, a second-year undrafted free agent, drew some hype last summer as the "next Cecil Shorts" out of Mount Union. Scott was most famous for throwing up on the field in the Bengals' preseason opener. Rotoworld.com

  • Saints release TE Travis Beckum
    Saints released TE Travis Beckum.

Advice: Beckum lasted just 12 days on the roster. The former No. 100 overall pick of the Giants has become an end-of-the-roster journeyman at this stage of his career. Rotoworld.com

  • Giants to use committee approach at tight end
Coach Tom Coughlin conceded the Giants plan to use a committee approach at tight end.

Advice: "That is not necessarily what the plan was," Coughlin said. "But the plan has evolved to that." The candidates appear to be Adrien Robinson, Larry Donnell, Daniel Fells, and Kellen Davis. Robinson is the athlete of the group, Donnell and Davis the blockers, with Fells able to do both but nothing better than average. The Giants are still sorting out the group. It's a situation to avoid in fantasy. Rotoworld.com

  • Ravens: TE Daniels still part of team's plans
Speaking Monday, coach John Harbaugh said TE Owen Daniels remains part of the Ravens' plans.

Advice: Coming back from a broken leg, Daniels missed two weeks with "leg soreness," and looked sluggish before going down. His relationship with OC Gary Kubiak is a big factor working in favor of his roster odds, however. Daniels is well off the fantasy radar, and not a threat to Dennis Pitta's TE1 status. Rotoworld.com

  • Lions claim TE Michael Egnew off waivers
Lions claimed TE Michael Egnew off waivers from the Dolphins.

Advice: The Lions have also claimed TE Emil Igwenagu from the Eagles. Egnew has shown absolutely nothing since being the No. 78 overall pick of the 2012 draft, and we wouldn't expect that to change in Detroit. It will be a victory if he makes it to final cuts. Rotoworld.com

Owen Daniels (leg soreness) has resumed practicing.

Advice: Daniels was sidelined nearly two weeks with nondescript "soreness," missing two preseason games. He's shaping up as little threat to Dennis Pitta's target totals. There's a chance he's left off the 53-man roster. Rotoworld.com

  • Rob Housler can't haul in lone target
Rob Housler did not have a catch on one target in Sunday's preseason game against the Bengals.

Advice: Tight ends are not featured pass-catchers in a Bruce Arians offense and Housler is a poor blocker. So it should surprise no one that he has just one catch for 38 yards this preseason and is tumbling down the depth chart. Rotoworld.com

  • Jermaine Gresham catches one pass Sunday
Jermaine Gresham caught one pass for 33 yards in Sunday's preseason game against the Cardinals.

Advice: Tyler Eifert sat out, leaving Ryan Hewitt to pair with Gresham in the preferred "12" formations. The 33-yard grab up the seam was a fluke, as he didn't have a catch longer than 30 yards in '13. Gresham, an in-line blocker, is a poor bet to improve on last year's 46-458-4 line. Rotoworld.com

  • Gates reels in 10-yard TD on Sunday vs. SF
Antonio Gates caught all three of his targets for 28 yards and one touchdown in Sunday's third preseason game against the 49ers.

Advice: Gates beat 49ers FS Craig Dahl for a 10-yard score late in the first quarter for the game's only touchdown of the first half. The three grabs were Gates' first of the preseason, and he won't play much, if at all, next week. Gates isn't going to dominate targets between the 20s like he has in the past, but he's still a red-zone threat. He's available late in drafts, but we're mostly staying away. Rotoworld.com

  • C.J. Fiedorowicz starts Saturday
C.J. Fiedorowicz caught two passes for 13 yards in Saturday's preseason game against the Broncos.

Advice: Fiedorowicz started and caught both of his passes from Ryan Fitzpatrick, confirming he's ahead of Ryan Griffin for the in-line tight end job. Garrett Graham will be the "move" option. Through three preseason games, Fiedorowicz has three grabs for 27 yards and no touchdowns. He projects as a better real-life contributor than fantasy asset in Year 1 thanks to his blocking ability. • Austin Seferian-Jenkins held to one catch
Austin Seferian-Jenkins had one catch for 11 yards in Saturday's preseason game.

Advice: Seferian-Jenkins played with the second team, behind Brandon Myers. He got off to a slow start due to Washington's late graduation, but it's only a matter of time before he overtakes Myers. Seferian-Jenkins has potential to emerge as the No. 3 target in Jeff Tedford's offense. He's going to be an immediate red-zone threat and could prove to be a streaming option. Rotoworld.com

  • Jared Cook has one-catch night vs. Browns
Jared Cook caught 1-of-3 targets for 13 yards in Saturday's preseason game.

Advice: One of Cook's missed targets was a drop. He has three catches for 42 yards through three preseason games. Cook remains an integral part of the Rams' offense, but his inconsistency makes him little more than a mid-range TE2 for fantasy purposes. Rotoworld.com

  • Ryan Griffin catches game-winning score
Ryan Griffin caught five passes for 71 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's preseason game against the Broncos.

Advice: It's been an extremely quiet offseason for Griffin, an intriguing sixth-round pick in 2013. He didn't have any catches despite significant playing time in the first two preseason games, and ran exclusively with the deep reserves on Saturday. We did get a glimpse of what Griffin can do, however, as he caught a 31-yard touchdown from Tom Savage with 59 seconds left to set up a game-winning 2-point conversion. Griffin should stick on the final roster behind Garrett Graham and C.J. Fiedorowicz. Rotoworld.com

  • Dolphins give up on 2012 3rd-rounder Egnew
    Dolphins waived TE Michael Egnew.

Advice: One of ex-GM Jeff Ireland's seemingly countless misfires, Egnew was exposed as a product of Mizzou's spread offense quickly after the Dolphins made him a top-80 pick in the 2012 draft. It's particularly telling that the new Dolphins regime saw more potential in Arthur Lynch, Gator Hoskins, and Brett Brackett. Rotoworld.com

  • Owen Daniels still out with 'leg soreness'
Ravens TE Owen Daniels remains sidelined indefinitely with "leg soreness."

Advice: Daniels has now been sidelined a week, and will miss Saturday's regular-season dress rehearsal. The Ravens initially insisted Daniels was just "resting," but there's something else at play. ESPN's Jamison Hensley reported earlier this month that Daniels had "no burst getting off the line," and was having trouble "getting separation in training camp." It's quite possible Daniels isn't over the broken leg that wrecked his 2013. He's no threat to Dennis Pitta's target totals. Rotoworld.com

  • Bucs playing far more 12 than last year
The Bucs have used "12" personnel on 32 percent of their preseason snaps, well above the NFL average of 21 percent.

Advice: Last year, the Bucs used two-tight end sets less than 10 percent of the time, according to Football Outsiders. The Lovie Smith regime has come in and made the position a priority, drafting Austin Seferian-Jenkins 38th overall and signing Brandon Myers. At 6'5/262 with unique leaping ability, ASJ has a real shot to emerge as the No. 3 target for Josh McCown -- especially in the red zone. Rotoworld.com

Packers undrafted TE Colt Lyerla (knee) passed through waivers unclaimed and is now on injured reserve.

Advice: Lyerla injured his knee earlier in training camp and was waived/injured Tuesday. He's an intriguing talent who could have drawn some looks on waivers. Considering he wasn't signed as a priority undrafted free agent, it's not a surprise he wasn't scooped up by another team. Lyerla will "redshirt" as a rookie. Rotoworld.com

  • Texans rookie TE C.J. Fiedorowicz impressing
ESPN Texans reporter Tania Ganguli observes third-round TE C.J. Fiedorowicz "can do everything."

Advice: "Zero problems catching the ball," Ganguli added. The Texans and Broncos are holding joint practices this week, and Fiedorowicz continues to line up as the starting in-line tight end while getting red-zone work. He's an NFL-ready blocker and drew loose Rob Gronkowski comps coming out of Iowa. Coach Bill O'Brien plans to feature his tight ends. Fiedorowicz might be a waiver-wire favorite at some point. He's not yet worth drafting in standard-sized leagues. Rotoworld.com

  • Colt Lyerla could be moved to fullback?
Packers TEs coach Jerry Fontenot believes TE Colt Lyerla (knee, injured reserve) could eventually be moved to fullback.

Advice: Fontenot believes the move would "certainly (seem) to fit his wheelhouse." It's bizarre to hear of a 6-foot-4 tight end with 4.61 speed potentially being moved to fullback, but it's a moot point for 2014, as Lyerla will miss the entire season. There's a chance Lyerla will be riding the pine for another team, as he's been exposed to waivers after being waived/injured on Tuesday. Rotoworld.com

  • Packers waive/injure UDFA TE Colt Lyerla
    Packers waived/injured TE Colt Lyerla.

Advice: He'll revert to injured reserve if he clears waivers. It's far from a guarantee, as Lyerla is one of this season's highest-upside undrafted free agents. Standing in at 6-foot-4, 247 pounds with 4.61 wheels, Lyerla is a potential mismatch. He only went undrafted because of (admittedly serious) character concerns. Recovering from a torn PCL and MCL, Lyerla is staring at "at least" six weeks of rehab, and likely more. He'd have a fighting chance at a roster spot next year if the Pack can get him through waivers and on I.R. Rotoworld.com
