  • Palmer will continue spreading ball around
Carson Palmer said coach Bruce Arians' offense is designed to spread the ball around.

Advice: "I've been in offenses where the majority of the plays are designed to go to one guy," Palmer said. "This system is not designed to go to the 'X' or the 'Z' or the 'Y.' It depends on the coverage." Palmer hit nine different pass catchers against Oakland last week, and connected with 11 and eight different receivers in his first two starts of the season. The emphasis on spreading the ball around has led to disappointing seasons for Larry Fitzgerald and Michael Floyd, who are both on pace to fall below their statistical output from last season. Unless something changes, Arizona's offensive philosophy makes Floyd nothing more than an upside WR2, while Fitzgerald is a WR3 moving forward. Rotoworld.com

Free agent QB Kevin Kolb has retired from the NFL.

Advice: Kolb, 30, recounts four known concussions in the NFL, with the final one coming last preseason on his 29th birthday. It ended his career. Kolb says the after-effects of the concussions still haunt him today. He deals with constant ringing in his ears that he compares to "someone shooting a shotgun right next to my ear, every second of every day," sensitivity to light, and short-term memory loss. Speaking Thursday, coach Ken Whisenhunt confirmed the Titans have benched Jake Locker for sixth-round rookie Zach Mettenberger.

Advice: "We are searching to find out what's best," were the words of OC Jason Michael. "(Mettenberger is a) confident guy who has played in a big environment. We are confident in him." That may be true, but it doesn't get more desperate than throwing a sixth-rounder to the J.J. Watt-led wolves in his first NFL start. Mettenberger isn't on the Week 8 daily-league radar. He'll be backed up by Locker, with Charlie Whitehurst serving as the No. 3. Rotoworld.com

Coach Bruce Arians says Carson Palmer's shoulder issue is now a thing of the past.

Advice: Palmer has resumed lifting weights with his right (throwing) shoulder after not doing so for five weeks. He's been a full-go at practices and said he rarely thinks about the injury anymore. Fully healed, Palmer is certainly in play as a QB1 in a home game against the Eagles' burnable corner duo Sunday. When these two teams played last year, Palmer threw for 301 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions in a 24-21 loss at Philly. Rotoworld.com

  • Titans bench Jake Locker
The Titans have benched Jake Locker.

Advice: In the last year of his rookie contract, Locker has likely played his final down as a Titan. ESPN's Adam Caplan -- who's had a great read on the Titans since the draft -- "can't see" a scenario where Locker gets his job back barring an implosion by or injury to new starter Zach Mettenberger. If this is indeed it for Locker's Titans career, he will finish with 26 touchdown passes, 24 turnovers, and a 57.3 completion rate. Although Locker has myriad flaws, he has a strong enough arm and enough athleticism to resurface in 2015 as a useful NFL backup. Locker simply doesn't throw the ball with enough accuracy to be a consistent big-league starter. He's also been wildly injury prone in the pros. Rotoworld.com

  • Titans insert rookie Zach Mettenberger at QB
The Nashville Tennessean reports the Titans will start sixth-round rookie Zach Mettenberger at quarterback in Week 8 against the Texans.

Advice: Having already lost hope for the 2014 season, the Titans will start playing their pups. Injury-prone, contract-year quarterback Jake Locker has been formally demoted. It's believed Mettenberger was informed of coach Ken Whisenhunt's decision to start him on Tuesday night, which perhaps explains why none of Tennessee's quarterbacks were allowed to speak with the media on Wednesday. A strong-armed LSU product albeit with zero mobility, Mettenberger will make his first NFL start against J.J. Watt's Texans in a home game. With Jadeveon Clowney (knee) tentatively due back this week, the Houston defense is worth a look as a Week 8 streamer. Rotoworld.com

  • FitzMagic tosses 2 TDs, INT in MNF loss
Ryan Fitzpatrick completed 21-of-32 passes for 262 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception in the Texans' Week 7 loss to the Steelers on Monday night.

Advice: Fitzpatrick played well for much of the first half, leading the Texans on three consecutive scoring drives to open the game. It was a train wreck thereafter. One play after the Steelers had just scored a three-yard touchdown on an Arian Foster fumble at the goal line, Fitzpatrick comes back and tosses an interception at his own 20-yard line with 53 seconds left in the first half. The Steelers scored another TD and totaled 24 points in 2:54 before the break after trailing 13-0 with 3:08 left in the half. The Texans struggled on third downs passing the ball all night. • Browns 'briefly' considered going to Manziel
Coach Mike Pettine said the Browns "briefly" considered benching Brian Hoyer in favor of Johnny Manziel in Cleveland's 24-6 loss to Jacksonville.

Advice: How could they not have thought about it? Hoyer dropped the worst game of his career on the Jaguars, going 16-of-41 passing, turning it over twice, and taking three sacks. He missed a number of throws. "It was discussed briefly, but it was a situation where we still wanted to at least try to end the game with Brian on a positive note,'' Pettine said. Pettine went on to say Hoyer is "firmly our starter," but that's hard to believe. Once you start thinking about going to the backup, it's just a matter of time. Hoyer can't afford to lose to the 0-6 Raiders. Rotoworld.com

Advice: NBC's Dianna Marie Russini passes along that Robert Griffin III (ankle) "has been medically cleared to add to his workload," but the plan for now is to give McCoy the nod. After facing the Cowboys, the Redskins will play the Vikings in Week 9. That seems like Griffin's earliest-possible return date. • Austin Davis completes 86% of passes in win
Austin Davis completed 18-of-21 passes for 152 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions in the Rams' Week 7 win over the Seahawks.

Advice: Davis dinked and dunked his way down the field all afternoon, settling for short passes to his running backs and tight ends. It wasn't flashy by any means, but successful after struggling badly in Week 6 against San Francisco. The lone shot he took downfield was a 30-yard completion to Chris Givens. Davis completed 86 percent of his passes and hooked up with Benny Cunningham and Lance Kendricks for five- and four-yard scores, respectively. Davis is a back-end QB2 with a dreadful schedule (at KC, at SF, at ARZ, vs. DEN, at SD) ahead. Rotoworld.com

Advice: Locker practiced early last week, but his thumb became sore and the Titans were worried about mistakes with ball handling. • Palmer throws two more TD passes in victory
Carson Palmer completed 22-of-31 passes for 253 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception in the Cardinals' Week 7 win over the Raiders.

Advice: He was only sacked once, although Oakland did get pressure on Palmer, particularly in the second half. Palmer put the Cardinals ahead with a two-yard touchdown pass to Stepfan Taylor and a 33-yard score to Michael Floyd in the first half. He was picked in the second quarter by Charles Woodson on a slightly off-target pass that was deflected by TE John Carlson. Cards coach Bruce Arians reportedly emphasized increased balance on offense during the practice week, so Taylor handled more work than usual and Arizona finished with 31 pass attempts compared to 37 runs, one week after Palmer fired off an untenable 44 throws. The good news is Palmer continues to look healthy and has playmaking weapons. He gets another favorable matchup when Arizona takes on Philadelphia in Week 8. Rotoworld.com

Alex Smith completed 19-of-28 passes for 221 yards and one touchdown in Kansas City's 23-20, Week 7 win over the Chargers, adding six rushes for 29 yards.

Advice: Smith kept the chains moving on a day even where he was badly hurt by drops from his pass catchers. The turnover-free performance was his fourth in six games this season, though he has just nine total touchdowns. Smith is averaging 212 passing yards, and has 138 yards on the ground. Blake Bortles completed 17-of-31 passes for 159 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions in the Jaguars' Week 7 win over the Browns.

Advice: He added five carries for 37 yards, gaining much of it on read-option plays. The third overall pick in May's draft has been incredibly turnover prone -- still making an assortment of bad decisions -- but continues to play with aggressiveness, and the Jags are slowly but surely opening up their offense at the intermediate and deep levels. Bortles will remain a boom-or-bust two-quarterback-league option when the Jags face the tough Dolphins defense in Week 8. Rotoworld.com

Colt McCoy replaced Kirk Cousins at halftime of Washington's 19-17, Week 7 win over the Titans, completing 11-of-12 passes for 128 yards and a touchdown.

Advice: McCoy found Pierre Garcon for a 70-yard touchdown on his first pass, but was quiet thereafter. Garcon did all the work, making fools of Titans DBs Blidi Wreh-Wilson and Michael Griffin. Coach Jay Gruden didn't want McCoy to do anything other than mind the store, and he obliged by avoiding mistakes. We'd guess Robert Griffin III (ankle) will return for next week's game against the Cowboys, but if not, McCoy will likely get the start over Cousins. He'll be a bottom-three option. Rotoworld.com

Teddy Bridgewater completed 15-of-26 passes for 157 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions in Sunday's Week 7 loss to the Bills.

Advice: Bridgewater was sacked five times behind a Vikings offensive line that lost starting C John Sullivan and RG Vlad Ducasse to injuries. His biggest play was a 38-yard completion to Greg Jennings in the first half, with his touchdown coming on a four-yard bubble screen to Cordarrelle Patterson on the same drive. Bridgewater's fantasy upside is limited by his supporting cast and the Vikings pass protection issues. He'll have a chance to get back on track in a plus matchup against the Bucs in Week 8. Brian Hoyer completed just 16-of-41 passes for 215 yards and an interception in the Browns' Week 7 loss to Jacksonville.

Advice: He was sacked three times and lost a fumble. Browns coach Mike Pettine admitted after the game that Cleveland's offense took a "huge step backwards" against the Jaguars, getting dominated in both the run and pass games. Hoyer was terribly inaccurate, most notably missing Jordan Cameron for a wide-open touchdown early in the game. • Redskins pull plug on Cousins, turn to McCoy
Kirk Cousins was benched at halftime of Washington's Week 7 game against the Titans.

Advice: Colt McCoy is now in the game, and threw a 70-yard touchdown to Pierre Garcon on his first attempt. Cousins' benching was richly deserved, as he committed two first-half turnovers, and appeared genuinely spooked. CBS commentator Rich Gannon was less than impressed with Cousins' body language as he went 10-of-16 for 139 yards, zero scores, one pick and one lost fumble. Cousins' fumble was a sack where he held onto the ball for far too long, while his pick was thrown right to LB Wesley Woodyard. Cousins leads the NFL in interceptions despite his part-time slate. Robert Griffin III is shaping up as a strong bet to return in Week 8. Cousins is safely droppable in all formats of fantasy. Rotoworld.com

He is only completing 57.8 percent with a 4:8 TD-to-INT ratio in the second half. Cousins believes the discrepancy results from him pressing as the Redskins fight back from big deficits.
