  • Lovie Smith hedges on Charles Sims' status
Speaking Thursday, Bucs coach Lovie Smith again hedged on RB Charles Sims' (ankle, I.R./return) Week 9 status.

Advice: "I don't know if he'll be ready to go this week," Smith said, before adding that Sims has been "making progress." We're still expecting Sims to suit up, especially with Doug Martin (ankle) looking shaky, but his status can't be taken for granted quite yet. Hopefully Sims is officially activated on Friday. Advice: Brown is finally ready to return after missing the Chargers' past three games. It's unclear what his role will be against the Dolphins, as Branden Oliver has performed well as an every-down back in Brown's absence. We wouldn't expect Brown to handle more than 5-6 touches. Rotoworld.com

Ronnie Hillman (shoulder) remained limited on Thursday, but is expected to handle his "normal workload" in Sunday's game against the Patriots.

Advice: Hillman is just dealing with a tweak. His status is not a concern for Week 9. Going up against a Patriots defense surrendering the fifth most fantasy points to running backs in a game that has major shootout potential, Hillman is a legit RB1 with six teams on bye. Rotoworld.com

Advice: Gio Bernard (hip) is in doubt for Sunday's game against the Jaguars. He couldn't finish last week's game and did not practice on Wednesday. The change-of-pace type Peerman has been on the fringe of Cincy's roster for the last five seasons, rushing just 54 times. Bucs beat writer Greg Auman sees 10-plus touches for Charles Sims (ankle) Sunday.

Advice: It sounds like a lot for a rookie that has been on IR/return all season, but it speaks to the kind of role the Bucs want him to have. Doug Martin (ankle) is in a walking boot and highly questionable, possibly leaving Sims and Bobby Rainey as the top-two backs against the Browns' No. 30 run defense Sunday. • Michael Vick says he'll play with control
New Jets starter Michael Vick says he has "to play with some type of control."

Advice: After relieving Geno Smith against the Bills last week, Vick committed three turnovers in three quarters. "Last week, I got too greedy," he said Wednesday. "I was trying to play like a 24-year-old Mike Vick." We don't expect Vick to shed his turnover- or injury-prone label, but he does have some fantasy upside thanks to his still dominant legs. Ideally, streamers will use him in a Week 10 home game against the Steelers rather than at Arrowhead against the Chiefs Sunday. Note that while starting for the Eagles in the first four games of last season, Vick averaged 270.0 pass yards, 57.0 rush yards and 1.7 total touchdowns per game. He knows this Marty Mornhinweg offense well after their time together in Philly. Rotoworld.com

Alex Smith (shoulder) is practicing in full for Week 9.

Advice: Smith was slammed to the turf by Robert Quinn on back-to-back plays late in the first half of Sunday's win over the Rams, lightly spraining his throwing shoulder. It's not a concern going forward. Smith has a dream matchup on paper this week against a Jets team that stuffs the run and gets exposed by the pass, but his conservative style caps upside. Just one of Smith's 29 pass attempts traveled more than 10 yards down the field Sunday. Smith hasn't thrown a touchdown to a wide receiver this season. Rotoworld.com

Advice: Krasniqi isn't a beat writer, per se, but covers the team in Tampa and has had useful team-related nuggets in the past. He also attended Monday's press conference with coach Lovie Smith. The Bucs have just one win on the season and every incentive to start playing their youngsters. Sims was the 69th overall pick in May's draft. Advice: Per beat reporter Manish Mehta, Vick will start "barring an 11th-hour power play" by GM John Idzik and/or owner Woody Johnson. It'll be a great opportunity for fantasy owners to stream the Chiefs' defense. The game will be played at Arrowhead Stadium, and Vick has become more turnover prone than ever late in his career. Smith will likely sit out or earn a "limited" tag on Wednesday before trying to ramp up on Thursday. The good news is, Smith suffered the injury in the first half on Sunday, and played through it in the second. • Vick to start unless Rex pressured by GM?
The New York Daily News says the feeling inside the Jets is that Michael Vick will start Week 9 unless Rex Ryan is pressured into starting Geno Smith.

Advice: The pressure would come from GM John Idzik, who made Smith the No. 39 overall pick in the 2013 draft. He's probably not willing to throw in the towel yet, especially in favor of a 34-year-old quarterback when your team is 1-7. But Rex risks losing the locker room -- and his job -- if he continues to trot out error-repeating Geno. We suspect Vick and his still-dazzling legs will be under center against the Chiefs in Week 9. Advice: Thoroughly ineffective for the second straight week, Tate was stuffed on a third-quarter red-zone carry, and lost eight touches to Terrance West in addition to two to Isaiah Crowell. Fantasy owners should be thankful Tate scored a five-yard rushing touchdown late in the third quarter, effectively salvaging his fantasy day. Kelce was also stopped at the one-inch line in the second quarter before Jamaal Charles got the goal-line carry for the touchdown. Britt's big play was an opening-drive 43-yard pickup on 3rd-and-1 to help set up Lance Kendricks' one-yard touchdown. Advice: Forsett did his part by ripping off chain-moving runs in Baltimore's feature back role, but was vultured twice on red-zone carries by emerging rookie Lorenzo Taliaferro. Forsett is an every-week RB2/flex in fantasy leagues, but falls well short of RB1 status because he is not a good bet for weekly touchdowns. He was inches away from a touchdown pass to Travis Kelce, but Kelce was stopped at the one-yard line before Jamaal Charles pounded in the score on the ground. The Chiefs scored 34 straight points after the Rams' opening-drive touchdown. Smith will have some streamer appeal Week 9 vs. the Jets. Rotoworld.com

  • Darren Sproles (knee) officially out Sunday
Darren Sproles (knee) is inactive for Sunday's Week 8 game at Arizona.

Advice: Sproles would appear to have a good shot at returning for Week 9 as he got in limited practices each day this week. Talented Chris Polk will back up LeSean McCoy Sunday. The Eagles do get some good news as ILB Mychal Kendricks (calf) is active and starting. The rest of their inactives: QB Matt Barkley, WR Brad Smith, DB Jaylen Watkins, C Jason Kelce, OL Dennis Kelly and DE Taylor Hart. Rotoworld.com

  • Geno Smith benched after three straight picks
Geno Smith was benched in the first quarter of Sunday's game against the Bills.

Advice: Smith was pulled after throwing interceptions on three straight drives. He opened the game just 2-of-8 for five yards, with most of his incompletions coming on bad overthrows. Michael Vick has replaced Smith and could make a case for the job going forward. Smith has thrown an interception in 19 of 24 games in his career. Rotoworld.com

  • Glazer: Darren Sproles 'very doubtful' Sunday
FOX's Jay Glazer confirmed Darren Sproles (knee) is "very doubtful" for Sunday's 4pm ET game at Arizona.

Advice: ESPN Chris Mortensen essentially said the same thing earlier Sunday morning. Sproles suffered a sprained MCL in Week 6, and injury that typically takes 2-3 weeks to heal. The Eagles sound like they're going to play it safe even though he practiced on a limited basis all week. Sproles is only averaging 5.5 offensive touches per game over his last four outings anyway. ESPN's Chris Mortensen predicted Sunday morning that Darren Sproles (knee) will be inactive against the Cardinals.

Advice: Sproles is coming off an MCL injury. Adam Schefter predicted Sproles would play a small role if he plays, and Mortensen said he doesn't think Sproles will play at all. Get Sproles out of your fantasy lineup if he was in. Rotoworld.com

  • Browns concerned about Ben Tate?
ESPN Cleveland believes that OC Kyle Shanahan has concerns about Ben Tate as the Browns' feature back.

Advice: Tate has started or led the backfield in touches in every game he's been healthy, but Shanahan's comments about wanting "one of the backs to separate" suggests the Browns aren't sold on him carrying the load. There could be a changing of the guard if Tate continues to struggle and one of Isaiah Crowell or Terrance West emerges with a hot-hand. Tate has a 2.8 YPC over the last two games. Crowell has been the most productive and could start to see his role increased. The Browns have the most invested in West as a third-round pick. Rotoworld.com

  • Charles Sims to play big stretch-run role?
ESPN's Dan Graziano suggested on NFL Insiders Friday that rookie Charles Sims could play a big role down the stretch.

Advice: Eligible to return from I.R./recall in Week 9, Sims has resumed practicing after fracturing his ankle in August. "He may get a shot to get some serious carries in the second half (of the season)," were Graziano's words. Sims is worth stashing in 12- and 14-team leagues. Doug Martin has been ineffective for a sustained stretch, while Bobby Rainey has been prone to fumbles. Rotoworld.com

  • Ronnie Hillman to remain Broncos starting RB?
The Denver Post believes the Broncos will be "hard pressed" to turn back to Montee Ball (groin) as their lead running back when healthy.

Advice: We don't think it's likely at all. Ronnie Hillman has given Denver's offense an entirely new dimension with big-play ability on outside runs, whereas Ball struggled mightily when he was asked to move laterally. Ball was effective in a change-of-pace role behind Knowshon Moreno down the stretch last season. That may be his role upon return. Although he is being pulled on goal-line runs, Hillman has a chance to provide borderline RB1 value the rest of the way. Rotoworld.com

  • Ravens TE Daniels has knee scoped, out Wk 8
Owen Daniels is out indefinitely after having his knee scoped on Friday.

Advice: The Ravens are only saying Daniels will be out "at least one game," but he's much likelier to miss more. It's another big blow to OC Gary Kubiak's offense, which already lost Dennis Pitta for the season. Mostly a blocker to this point in Kubiak's offense, third-round rookie Crockett Gillmore will now take over as the Ravens' starting tight end, perhaps with FB Kyle Juszczyk and/or WR Marlon Brown taking on bigger roles in the passing game. Owen Daniels (knee) missed practice again Friday.

Advice: Daniels' injury is "relatively minor." He's been getting routine off days all season, so it's possible the Ravens just gave the soon-to-be 32-year-old the whole week off. He's expected to play. Daniels will be in the TE1 mix vs. Cincinnati. Rotoworld.com

  • Juwan Thompson rushes for two touchdowns
Juwan Thompson rushed seven times for 24 yards and two touchdowns in Denver's Week 8 win over the Chargers.

Advice: Thompson vultured workhorse Ronnie Hillman for two- and one-yard scores in the second half. The touchdowns were his second and third of the season. Thompson has been running well as a situational hammer, but will likely lose that role upon Montee Ball's (groin) return. Rotoworld.com

  • Hillman has bad TD luck, but totals 138 yards
Ronnie Hillman rushed 20 times for 109 yards in the Broncos' Week 8 win over the Chargers, catching 3-of-4 targets for an additional 29 yards.

Advice: The 138 yards from scrimmage were Hillman's most in his three games as starter, but it's his amazingly-bad touchdown luck that will have owners talking on Friday. Hillman had five potential scores wiped away by happenstance and shenanigans. In no particular order, Hillman: Lost a touchdown by stepping out of bounds, had a score wiped out by holding, lost a shot at a goal-line carry thanks to a botched snap and watched Juwan Thompson vulture not one, but two TDs. The good news, if you want to look at it that way, is that Hillman was in position for so many touchdowns, and continues to run circles around the work Montee Ball did before going down with a groin injury. Ball will have a role when he returns, but it's getting harder to believe it won't be as Hillman's caddie. Rotoworld.com

The Ravens aren't concerned about Owen Daniels' (knee) Week 8 status.

Advice: Daniels has yet to practice this week, but OC Gary Kubiak says he's "fine." He should return for a limited session on Friday, and earn a "questionable" tag on the injury report. Daniels is in the TE1 discussion against a Bengals team hemorrhaging fantasy points to tight ends. Rotoworld.com

Advice: Daniels' Wednesday absence wasn't a concern as he's been getting "veteran days" all season, but his Week 8 prospects are now a bit muddled.
