    • Jags 'very optimistic' Blackmon plays in 2015
Jaguars owner Shad Khan stated Friday at the Super Bowl that he is "very optimistic" about the 2015 return of suspended WR Justin Blackmon.

Advice: "Absolutely," Khan stated vehemently. "As a matter of fact, I’m very optimistic. I think he’s paid his dues. I think he’s got his life together. I think he can be a role model for people who have gone through hard times. We’re waiting for him." Blackmon's return would be a huge boost to Jacksonville's wideout corps, which is dealing with Allen Robinson's foot fracture and Cecil Shorts' free agency. 25-year-old Blackmon is a run-after-catch machine with an ability to threaten the intermediate sections. He'd be a big upgrade on Shorts at Z receiver. Rotoworld.com

    • Peyton Manning still weighing playing future
Peyton Manning met with new Broncos coach Gary Kubiak on Wednesday and team president Joe Ellis on Friday regarding his future plans.

Advice: He'll chat with GM John Elway shortly. Appearing at the Super Bowl, Manning reportedly appeared "relaxed" and "invigorated," and the Denver Post continues to expect him to play football in 2015. "I’d like to make a decision soon," Manning said in Arizona. "At the same time, coach and Joe and John have instructed me to take some time so I’m kind of following their orders." Rotoworld.com

Bears re-signed LB DeDe Lattimore to a two-year contract.

    • Blount has marijuana charges withdrawn
LeGarrette Blount had his marijuana charges withdrawn after he completed 50 hours of community service.

Advice: Blount and Le'Veon Bell were arrested in August and popped with pot charges. Blount had until February 4 to complete his court-mandated community service. With the case now resolved, the league can step in and take action against Blount. It's possible he and Bell receive a fine or short suspension in 2015. Rotoworld.com

    • Brandon Marshall's Bears future in question?
ESPN Chicago's Michael C. Wright writes that "nobody knows" whether Brandon Marshall will be back with the Bears in 2015.

Advice: The Bears signed Marshall to a new four-year, $39 million deal last May, but the regime that handed him that extension is gone. Marshall is still a fine player and worth the money, but there's some question whether he'll be able to coexist with Chicago's new staff. OC Adam Gase was the Broncos' WRs coach when Mike Shanahan banished Marshall from Denver. Marshall also had a 2014 falling out with Jay Cutler. Per the website OverTheCap.com, the Bears could save $3.95 million in cap space by cutting Marshall this offseason. Rotoworld.com

Bears RE Jared Allen has a $12.5 million cap number for 2015.

Advice: It's fully guaranteed, too, so the Bears would take on a $12.5 million dead money hit if they were to release Allen. The Bears are expected to switch to a 3-4 defense under new DC Vic Fangio. Allen expressed some concern about the change, but believes he'll be a pure edge rusher at outside linebacker. He did admit that, if he had his choice, Allen would prefer to be a 4-3 right end. Rotoworld.com

    • LeSean McCoy not open to pay cut
LeSean McCoy isn't open to a pay cut.

Advice: Shady has said he's open to a restructure, but a straight cut is apparently out of the question. "I know how hard it is to keep a team together, and I want to be part of this team," McCoy said. "But I don't want to take less money." Due a tall $9.75 million for 2015, Shady will count $11.95 million against the cap. McCoy is signed through 2017, so any restructure would likely involve kicking some guaranteed money to 2016. Only $1 million of Shady's 2015 salary is guaranteed, but the Eagles would have to take on $4.4 million in dead money to cut him loose. Rotoworld.com

    • Cardinals not counting on Daryl Washington
The Cardinals aren't counting on suspended ILB Daryl Washington for 2015.

Advice: Substance-abuse violations got Washington banned for all of 2014, but he's yet to be disciplined by the league for his domestic-violence conviction. "Last year, we learned about his suspension after free agency," said team president Michael Bidwill. "This year we are going to plan to make sure we address all the issues not knowing whether Daryl will be back for part of next season or all of next season." Washington should be facing at least a six-game ban. His current year-long suspension runs through late May. Rotoworld.com

    • Saints a possible destination for Maxwell?
ESPN's Mike Triplett suggests the Saints could be interested in impending free agent CB Byron Maxwell.

Advice: Triplett is just connecting the dots. He's not reporting he's heard the Saints are ready to make a run at Seattle's right cornerback. Rotoworld's No. 1 free agent corner, Maxwell did excellent work opposite Richard Sherman this season, and gets a chance to shine on the national stage Sunday. Corner is a major need for the Saints, but their cap situation is one of the league's worst. If Maxwell escapes Seattle, New Orleans is an unlikely landing spot. Rotoworld.com

    • Josh Gordon addresses issues in open letter
Suspended WR Josh Gordon insists he does not have addiction issues, and says he believed he was no longer being tested for alcohol following the regular season.

Advice: Writing in an open letter, Gordon took his critics to task, trying to paint a picture of a player who has been more unlucky than wayward. He continues to insist his failed 2014 marijuana test was the result of second-hand smoke. He also says the alcohol that led to his failed test earlier this month was consumed on a flight with other Browns players, and was the first time he had drank since his July 2014 DWI. Gordon said he's not yet sure if he will appeal his year-long ban. Regardless of the circumstances surrounding his troubles, Gordon is out of second chances with the NFL. He needs to avoid trouble of any kind from here on out. Rotoworld.com

    • Josh Huff could get a crack at Cooper's job?
Philly Magazine says it's "not out of the question" that Josh Huff could steal Riley Cooper's starting job in 2015.

Advice: If the Eagles choose to keep Jordan Matthews in a strict slot role, Huff's path to playing will be clearer. We know Cooper, arguably the worst starting wideout in the league last season, is on shaky ground. The problem is Huff was not impressive as a rookie, catching just eight passes and losing a critical fumble. Profiling more as a sub-package wideout than front-line player, he's only a deep Dynasty hold for now. Rotoworld.com

Free agent LB Lance Briggs is now open to returning to Chicago.

Advice: Briggs was done with Phil Emery and Marc Trestman, but sees a chance with the new Ryan Pace/John Fox regime. He's willing to play inside in Vic Fangio's expected 3-4 scheme, a good fit for a player going into his age-35 season. Despite his advanced age, Briggs proved he can still stuff the run last season. • Blount denies orchestrating release from PIT
LeGarrette Blount denies orchestrating his November release from the Steelers.

Advice: Conspiracy theorists suggest that New England reached out to Blount and told him that if he wiggled his way out of Pittsburgh, he'd be able to return to Bill Belichick's waiting arms. So then Blount went haywire with his attitude and quit on the team, leaving Mike Tomlin no choice but to dump Le'Veon Bell's backup. The hole in that theory is that every team in the league had a chance to claim him before he became a free agent and signed with the Patriots. Regardless, in seven games as a Patriot since then, Blount has rushed 93 times for 430 yards (4.62 YPC) with six touchdowns. Rotoworld.com

Free agent CB Antonio Cromartie said he's open to returning to the Jets.

Advice: The dots connect here. Cromartie flashed some of his best ball as a Jet from 2010-13, he was elite in new coach Todd Bowles' scheme while with the Cardinals in 2014 and the Jets' secondary desperately needs a talent infusion. Cromartie, 30, is our No. 4 corner available in free agency, only behind Bryon Maxwell, Brandon Flowers and Tramon Williams. Rotoworld.com

Due to his latest suspension, Josh Gordon's contract will be tolled through the 2016 season, and he will only be eligible for restricted free agency in 2017.

Advice: This assumes the Browns don't cut Gordon. If they hold onto his rights -- doing so wouldn't count against Cleveland's roster limit -- Gordon will be signed for 2016 and eligible for the Browns to "tender" in 2017. All of this also assumes Gordon commits no violations during his year away. His contract will continue to be "tolled" as long as he's suspended. Rotoworld.com

    • 'Optimism' Justin Blackmon will return in '15
FOX Sports' Alex Marvez reports "lots of folks" inside the NFL are "optimistic" suspended WR Justin Blackmon will return to the Jaguars in 2015.

Advice: Just as Josh Gordon's Dynasty league owners get the worst news possible, Blackmon's get a ray of hope. The Jaguars hope to have an update on Blackmon's progress before May's draft, at which point they can begin planning for the 2015 season. Blackmon remains "suspended indefinitely," with no concrete date for potential reinstatement. At Jaguars GM Dave Caldwell's season-ending presser this past December, he said he'd "heard some good things" about Blackmon's recovery from substance abuse. Blackmon turned 25 two weeks ago. His return would be a huge boost for beleaguered Blake Bortles. Rotoworld.com

    • Josh Gordon suspended for consuming alcohol
Profootballtalk's Mike Florio confirms Josh Gordon's one-year suspension stems from a failed test for alcohol, a substance Gordon was prohibited from consuming following his July 2014 DUI.

Advice: Consuming alcohol seems minor to all of us, but it was explicitly banned for Gordon as part of his DUI treatment plan. As NFL Network's Ian Rapoport noted on Twitter, the NFL's substance abuse policy is "extremely strict and spelled out. He'll wait for 2016." Gordon will be 25 1/2 years old when the 2016 season kicks off. He led the NFL in receiving yards at age 22. Rotoworld.com

Advice: Gordon allegedly tested positive for alcohol, something he was presumably prohibited from consuming in connection with his laundry list of drug-related misdeeds. Advice: Paige isn't a Broncos beat writer, but has a long history in the Denver area and cites "three trustworthy sources." As long as Manning passes his annual spring physical and informs the team prior to March 9, he should be back for another run at the Super Bowl in 2015 under new coach Gary Kubiak. It's Kubiak's way of making it publicly clear to Manning that he'll still be able to run the show as he sees fit.
