  • Marcus Mariota draws raves for accuracy
Marcus Mariota drew raves for his accuracy in offseason workouts.

Advice: "Unbelievable accuracy," WR Harry Douglas said. "Marcus has done everything he needs to get the ball to his receivers." The Titans are expecting Mariota to improve their short passing game, where they ranked 24th in yards after the catch last year. Mariota's accuracy should be a big upgrade for slot WR Kendall Wright. • Russell Wilson alludes to baseball career
Russell Wilson said he'd "definitely consider" resuming his baseball career were he traded to the Seattle Mariners.

Advice: Wilson's MLB rights are currently owned by the Texas Rangers. It's the second time in four months that Wilson has refused to close the door on his baseball career, but it's almost certainly just a negotiating ploy as he angles to become the NFL's highest-paid player. Going on 27, Wilson was good enough to play in the minor leagues, but has never been considered a high-end prospect. He's not going to be the next Deion Sanders or Bo Jackson. Rotoworld.com

  • Offset language holding up Mariota's contract
Profootballtalk confirms offset language is the hold up with Marcus Mariota's rookie contract.

Advice: This week's absurd "surfing clause" rumors have been put to rest. The Titans want to prevent Mariota from "double dipping" in the event he is released before the conclusion of his rookie contract, while Mariota is wisely avoiding caving. No. 1 overall pick Jameis Winston agreed to offset language, but this should be a fight Mariota wins if he sticks to his guns. The Titans can't afford to let Mariota miss any time in camp. No. 3 overall pick Dante Fowler's deal does not include offset language. Rotoworld.com

  • Jags GM: Bortles had 'dead arm' as rookie
Jaguars GM David Caldwell says Blake Bortles suffered from "dead arm" as a rookie.

Advice: Bortles spent time late in the season on the injury report with a shoulder issue, and Caldwell says it gave way to a "dead arm" phase, a la a pitcher in baseball. It's not something you typically hear about in football, but we suppose it could happen to a rookie. By nearly every account — including Caldwell's — Bortles has improved his mechanics this offseason. A dual-threat who even the Jags admitted needed a "redshirt" year before taking over for an ineffective Chad Henne, Bortles has the ability to take a big step forward in 2015. Rotoworld.com

  • 'No truth at all' to Mariota surfing rumors
ESPN's Paul Kuharsky reports there's "no truth at all" to rumors that an anti-surfing clause is the hold up in Marcus Mariota's rookie contract.

Advice: With NFL "news" at its lowest ebb of the year, this is a "report" that's been making the rounds this week. Although teams often move to protect themselves against potentially-dangerous activities like surfing, we highly doubt this is the kink in the sides' prospective agreement. It's almost certainly a squabble over offset language. Rotoworld.com

  • Pryor says he's competing as 'slash' player
Terrelle Pryor says he's competing for a roster spot as a "slash" player.

Advice: "I'm going to give this slash-player deal a chance," Pryor said last week. "I just want to play football. I'm a playmaker, and I believe if I can touch the ball, I can go to the house, especially if I have space." A "slash" player is typically a quarterback who gets touches elsewhere on the field. The Browns have made it clear they signed Pryor as a wideout, and not a signal caller. Pryor would undoubtedly be used in gadget packages if he cracked the 53-man roster, but his odds live and die on his ability to adjust to receiver. Rotoworld.com

The Buffalo News believes it's "really possible" the Bills name Tyrod Taylor their starting quarterback.

Advice: Taylor, Matt Cassel and E.J. Manuel split reps evenly throughout the offseason program, with Cassel performing the poorest. It's not that far-fetched to suggest Taylor could beat out Manuel and his 58.6 career completion percentage. Rex Ryan appears most enthusiastic about Taylor, the quarterback he "hand picked." Taylor has never started an NFL game, spending the last four years as Joe Flacco's backup. Rotoworld.com

  • Jaws goes to bat for Geno Smith
ESPN's Ron Jaworski said he "like(s) the future of the Jets with Geno Smith at quarterback."

Advice: Geno has been the butt of jokes through two seasons, but he's played in a QB-unfriendly system with guys like Jeremy Kerley and Jeff Cumberland as primary targets. We saw a flicker of hope over last season's final four games as he completed 65.1 percent of his throws with a 6:2 TD-to-INT ration en route to a 105.3 passer rating. Now Smith has excellent weapons (Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker, Jace Amaro, Devin Smith) to fit the Chan Gailey spread scheme that's similar to the one Geno excelled in at West Virginia. We're not ruling out a big step forward. Rotoworld.com

  • Russell Wilson casually mentions $25M figure
In an interview with ESPN, Russell Wilson mentioned $25 million as an annual salary figure.

Advice: Wilson continues to engage in subtle yet public negotiations with the Seahawks as he heads into the final year of his rookie contract. "No matter how much I’m getting paid, whether it’s $25 million or $1.5 million. I’ll be ready to go," he said. The $1.5 million number is what he's set to make this season and $25 million would be $3 million more than current NFL leader Aaron Rodgers' $22 million annual average. After the interview aired, Wilson's agent Mark Rodgers wrote the following on Twitter: "I wish he had said $40 million. Then this would be really interesting. #patience #relax #no_deadline." • Russell Wilson hopes to remain in Seattle
In an interview at his annual passing academy, Russell Wilson said he wants to be with the Seahawks a "really, really long time."

Advice: While that may be true, Wilson also reportedly wants to become the highest-paid player in the league. To this point, the Seahawks have seemed hesitant to match the request, though that could certainly change as a potential future without a top-five quarterback comes into sharper focus. Wilson is scheduled to make $1.542 million in the final year of his rookie deal. Rotoworld.com

  • Manning's agent confident deal will get done
Agent Tom Condon is confident the Giants will sign Eli Manning to a long-term extension.

Advice: "The quarterbacks always get done," said Condon. "You know you're going to go in and it's going to get done. I'm sure at the appropriate time it'll happen." Neither side has made much headway in negotiations but it's hard to envision Manning playing anywhere else. Manning will be the second highest-paid quarterback in the NFL this season behind Drew Brees. Rotoworld.com

Jameis Winston said he wants to 'get back skinny' before training camp begins.

Advice: Winston said he is currently 238 pounds, but he wants to get down to 230 before the start of camp. Winston weighed in at 231 at the combine. Cutting some pounds could not hurt, but Winston has never had a chiseled physique. As a pocket passer, Winston's ability to master the playbook will matter a lot more to his success than a few pounds. Rotoworld.com

  • PFT predicts Wilson won't be a Seahawk in '16
PFT's Mike Florio's "current prediction" is that contract-year QB Russell Wilson won't be with the Seahawks in 2016.

Advice: Bold. It's only a prediction, but Florio is in the know and has plenty of sources. The two sides do seem to be pretty far apart on Wilson's value. The Seahawks are offering Wilson a deal in the Cam Newton range, while Wilson wants to be the league's highest-paid player. Florio thinks the Seahawks will use the non-exclusive franchise tag on Wilson and another team signs him to an offer sheet the Seahawks are unwilling to match. When push comes to shove, it's hard to see the Seahawks truly letting their franchise quarterback walk out the door. Rotoworld.com

  • Teammates praise Tannehill's deep ball
The Miami Herald reports Ryan Tannehill has been throwing a better deep ball this offseason.

Advice: Per reporter Barry Jackson, Tannehill's teammates have been "effusive" in their praise of his offseason. "Ryan is way better than last year, and more of a leader," were the words of TE Dion Sims. We don't doubt Tannehill's deep ball is looking good in pad-less practices, but it's not going to be a big part of his game in 2015. Mike Wallace has been shipped out, while the Dolphins have done their best to load up on short-to-intermediate targets. Although the long game is not one of Tannehill's specialties, he retains top-eight upside as a fantasy quarterback. Rotoworld.com

  • Report: Wilson wants to be top-paid player
Sources tell Bleacher Report's Jason Cole that contract-year QB Russell Wilson is looking to become the highest-paid player in the NFL.

Advice: It's not a surprise. In the prime of his career, Wilson is coming off back-to-back Super Bowl appearances, as well as by far his best season. It would be more noteworthy if he was starting negotiations below the "highest-paid" threshold. Going by average-annual value, Aaron Rodgers is the league's top-paid player. His five-year, $110 million deal is worth $22 million per season. Rotoworld.com

  • Brady decision not expected until mid-July
A decision on Tom Brady's appeal is not expected until mid- or late-July.

Advice: Article 46 of the CBA requires a decision to be issued "as soon as practicable." As we've seen before in cases like this, it's going to take a while. The post-hearing briefs in the appeal aren't even due until late next week, and then Roger Goodell will digest them. If Brady's camp isn't happy with the ruling, he'll then challenge the NFL in court. PFT suggests that path could lead to Brady being under center in Week 1 against the Steelers as the case gets tied up in the courts. Rotoworld.com

Matthew Stafford has reportedly shown improved accuracy during offseason workouts.

Advice: "He has a better feel for the system," coach Jim Caldwell said. "You can see our timing's better, receivers have a better sense of the routes they're running." Stafford threw just 12 interceptions in 2014, his lowest total in four years. The Lions expect him to outperform last season's 60.3 completion rate. Bucs OC Dirk Koetter expects there to be "growing pains" with Jameis Winston.

Advice: "In a perfect world as a coach, you really want to feel like you have control over knowing exactly what this guy is going to do. We don't have that with Jameis right now," Koetter said. "Jameis does some things above and beyond what you would ask him. And then he does a couple of things where you go, why did you just do that?" Winston’s aggressive tendencies led to a high turnover rate during his sophomore season at Florida State. The Bucs want him to get better at making reads and looking off defenders. Winston remains an intriguing fantasy QB2. Rotoworld.com

The Broncos initially asked Peyton Manning to take a $10 million pay cut this season.

Advice: That would have been a more-than-50 percent slash, suggesting the Broncos at some point were at least considering a life without Manning. The two sides eventually settled on a $4 million pay cut, and the Broncos smartened up and realized this is Peyton Freaking Manning and Brock Osweiler isn't him. Rotoworld.com

A league source tells Profootballtalk.com that Tom Brady "simply reiterated his denial" regarding involvement in or knowledge of deflating footballs during Tuesday's appeal with commissioner Roger Goodell, and "the answers were regarded by some in the room as not entirely credible."

Advice: Reports following Brady's meeting with Goodell indicated Tom Terrific gave an "A+ performance," but it seems league officials disagree. Brady reportedly attacked the Wells Report and stated he "didn't do anything wrong." A source told Sports Radio 610 in Houston that the Texans and Broncos had "very preliminary" discussions regarding a trade that would have sent Peyton Manning to the Texans early this offseason.

Advice: The source said the "very preliminary" talks took place before Manning took a $4 million pay cut to stay in Denver, which occurred in early March. Manning has a no-trade clause and would have had to sign off on the trade, so the idea of the Texans and Broncos engaging in legitimate trade talks still seems highly unlikely. Coach Ken Whisenhunt suggested the Titans will use Marcus Mariota similarly to Russell Wilson.

Advice: "The league does a good job trying to protect quarterbacks, but any time a quarterback takes off with the ball there's a risk," Whisenhunt said. "There will be (designed) opportunities, but there will also be a lot of opportunities, just like with Russell Wilson, when the play breaks down and he runs with the ball and extends the play." With 4.52 wheels, the Titans would be silly not to use Mariota on designed runs. There's QB2 appeal here with low-end QB1 upside. Rotoworld.com
