  • David Ausberry expected to practice Monday
Raiders TE David Ausberry (knee) is expected to return to practice Monday.

Advice: He's been sidelined since an early-August scope on his left knee. Ausberry should return to a starting role, but Mychal Rivera played okay in his absence this preseason, catching six balls for 76 yards and a touchdown. No matter who is the "starter," this is a situation to avoid in fantasy. Rotoworld.com

  • Travis Kelce getting heavy first-team usage
Travis Kelce played 15-of-39 preseason snaps with the first-team offense.

Advice: Most of the snaps came in two-tight end packages, with Anthony Fasano on the field. Still, it's encouraging usage for Kelce, who has been a standout throughout the preseason. He's also expected to see time in the slot this season. Kelce should be targeted in the late rounds of fantasy drafts as a high-upside TE2. Rotoworld.com

Ravens waived/released TE Nathan Overbay, LB D.J. Roberts, C Reggie Stephens, DT Levi Brown and DT Derrick Hopkins.

Advice: Overbay has been bouncing around practice squads since 2010, but has never appeared in a regular-season game. It's amazing he's lasted on the NFL fringe as long as he has. Rotoworld.com

  • Tim Wright mostly running pass routes
New Patriots TE Tim Wright ran a pass route on 34 of his 43 snaps in New England's preseason finale.

Advice: He finished with four catches for 43 yards on six targets. Wright isn't an in-line tight end like Rob Gronkowski; he's a "flex" or "move" option who will compete for snaps in the old Aaron Hernandez role. The Hernandez role has diminished in Foxboro, however, with the team now utilizing more three-wide sets. Wright remains no more than a coin-flip, back-end TE2 in fantasy. Rotoworld.com

Bills placed TE Tony Moeaki on injured reserve with a hamstring injury, ending his season.

Advice: They also placed CBs Mario Butler and Bobby Felder on I.R. Injury prone since his days at the University of Iowa, Moeaki got hurt early in training camp and missed the entire preseason. He'll probably get an injury settlement. Rotoworld.com

  • Tim Wright excels in preseason finale
New Patriots TE Tim Wright caught 4-of-6 targets for 43 yards in Thursday night's preseason finale against the Giants.

Advice: Wright operated as New England's "move" tight end with the Jimmy Garoppolo group. The Pats' starters didn't play. Wright has enough talent to earn more playing time as the season progresses, but for now he's no more than a coin-flip fantasy TE2. His ceiling is capped by a deep pass-catching corps in Foxboro. Bills TE Tony Moeaki missed the entire preseason with a hamstring injury.

Tony Gonzalez said there is "probably no chance of me coming back to play."

Advice: "I don't even want to play anymore. ... If it didn't happen up to this point, it's not gonna happen now," Gonzalez said. Predictably, the future Hall of Famer did say multiple teams contacted him this offseason. He caught 83 passes for 859 yards with eight touchdowns at age 37 last year, finishing as fantasy's No. 4 tight end. Rotoworld.com

  • Jordan Cameron now set for 'much larger role'
The Chronicle-Telegram confirms Jordan Cameron is set for a "much larger role" with Josh Gordon suspended for the entire season.

Advice: In the two games that Gordon was banned from last year, Cameron totaled 14 catches for 203 yards and one touchdown. Now he'll be the centerpiece of the Browns' passing attack for all 16 games, as Andrew Hawkins/Miles Austin/Nate Burleson are complementary players. Cameron, who ranked third among tight ends in targets last year with 117, will see that number push even higher this season. He's a value pick in the middle rounds. Rotoworld.com

  • Tim Wright has nothing to do with Gronkowski
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport confirms the Patriots' acquisition of Tim Wright has nothing to do with Rob Gronkowski's health.

Advice: Gronk is a 6-foot-6, 265-pound in-line tight end. Wright is a 6-foot-4, 220-pound college wide receiver. They're completely different players who will play totally different roles. Most signs continue to point to Gronkowski being ready for Week 1, but there are no guarantees. For Gronk drafters, we suggest grabbing Heath Miller or Garrett Graham late as early-season insurance. • Tim Wright the Pats' 'new Aaron Hernandez'
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport called Tim Wright the Patriots' "new [Aaron] Hernandez."

Advice: That's how we also see it. Many figured the Patriots' acquisition of Wright on Tuesday was a sign Rob Gronkowski's path back to the field was going to be halted. That couldn't be further from the truth. Wright is a former college receiver, while Gronkowski is a do-it-all in-line tight end. They're completely different players. While we need to tap the brakes on Wright becoming a top-three fantasy tight end like Hernandez, the Patriots clearly like Wright. It'll take him time to learn the offense, but he may be their future at "move" tight end. He's a back-end TE2. Rotoworld.com

  • Jacob Tamme a candidate for slot work
Jacob Tamme is a candidate to get some slot work if Wes Welker (concussion) misses time.

Advice: Emmanuel Sanders has tons of experience in the slot and would make the most sense there in the event of a Welker absence. But the Broncos would likely mix and match, with Tamme getting some packages. Still, our preferred stash here is Cody Latimer as the best red-zone threat and most talented player. He'd play outside while Sanders goes inside. Rotoworld.com

  • Zach Ertz's route-running draws rave reviews
Eagles tight ends coach Ted Williams said Zach Ertz is "one of the best route-runners I've ever seen."

Advice: Long-tabbed as one of the key pieces of the post-DeSean Jackson era in Philly, Ertz has done nothing to squash the hype in camp. Veteran reporter Paul Domowitch goes as far as to mention Ertz in the same breath as Jimmy Graham, Jason Witten and Rob Gronkowski. "Ertz has that kind of ability, that kind of upside," Domowitch says. Although in-line blocking stud Brent Celek remains the starter, the Eagles are going to feature a ton of "12" looks that get Ertz mismatches against linebackers. He'll be a featured player in the red-zone and remains one of our favorite middle-round TE1s. Rotoworld.com

ESPN's Adam Schefter says Rob Gronkowski (knee) remains in a "good spot."

Advice: Newly acquired Tim Wright will compete for snaps as a "move" tight end complement to in-line Gronkowski. They play completely different positions, so the trade does not shed any new light on Gronk's rehab -- which reportedly continues to progress without setback. Within the last week, Schefter has stated that he would be surprised if Gronkowski isn't ready for Week 1. Rotoworld.com

Packers waived TE Colt Lyerla with an injury settlement.

Advice: Lyerla sees the open market after all. The Packers clearly weren't high on the UDFA out of Oregon after he showed next to nothing during camp. Lyerla is a plus athlete at 6'4/247 with 4.61 speed. But we wouldn't expect teams to come knocking down his door after Lyerla wasn't claimed off waivers the first time. Lyerla also isn't healthy after injuring multiple knee ligaments. Rotoworld.com

  • Pats acquire TE Wright from Bucs for Mankins
Patriots acquired TE Tim Wright and a 2015 fourth-round pick from the Bucs in exchange for LG Logan Mankins.

Advice: The Patriots had a bit of a logjam on their interior line, and needed help at "move" tight end. Wright is a natural fit to potentially fill the old Aaron Hernandez role. He's a former college receiver who caught 54 balls for 571 yards and five touchdowns as a rookie last season. This move puts Wright squarely on the fantasy TE2 radar. We don't believe it has anything to do with Rob Gronkowski's availability for Week 1, however, as Gronk and Wright play inherently different positions. Wright is a "flex" tight end, while Gronk plays the "in-line" role. The Pats will move RG Dan Connolly to left guard. Ryan Wendell is at center. Marcus Cannon is the right guard. Rotoworld.com

Travis Kelce caught 4-of-6 targets for 49 yards in the Chiefs' third preseason game Saturday night against Minnesota.

Advice: Kelce did mix in with the first-team offense, but he's still pretty clearly behind Anthony Fasano on the depth chart. The Chiefs need to change that quick to maximize their offensive talent. Through three preseason affairs, Kelce has reeled in 10-of-13 targets for 185 yards and two touchdowns. He's still only a TE2 in re-draft leagues, but is an elite long-term Dynasty prospect. Rotoworld.com

Advice: Breer says "everything is still on course," with Gronkowski, but he will not play in Friday night's regular season dress rehearsal, and likely will sit out the preseason finale, as well. Gronkowski drafters should strongly consider using a late-round pick on Heath Miller to hedge their bets. Miller looked terrific last night, and is incredibly undervalued at his 13th-round ADP. Zach Ertz caught 2-of-2 targets for 24 yards in Thursday's preseason game.

Advice: Brent Celek stole Ertz's thunder with two highlight-reel grabs, but according to Pro Football Focus' Nathan Jahnke, Ertz was on the field for 31 of Philadelphia's first 49 snaps. Ertz spent ample time in the slot. Celek could occasionally cramp Ertz's style, but we still think Ertz is an intriguing back-end TE1.
