  • Jags GM hopes Julius Thomas returns by Week 4
Jaguars GM Dave Caldwell called Week 4 a "realistic" return target for Julius Thomas (hand surgery).

Advice: Thomas has already been essentially ruled out for the first three games of the season. It sounds like returning in Week 4 against the Colts would be a best case scenario. Expect Allen Robinson to be a target monster in the meantime, and for Allen Hurns to also see a bump in early-season usage. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 2:20 pm

  • Julius Thomas (finger) likely to miss 4-5 wks
Julius Thomas is expected to require surgery on his broken hand, and will be sidelined 4-5 weeks.

Advice: Specifically, Thomas needs surgery on a finger tendon. For what it's worth, Thomas is getting a second opinion on Tuesday. He can safely be ruled out for Weeks 1-3, and is highly questionable for Week 4. Considering Thomas' injury history, it's not a guarantee he'll be back for Week 5. It's a major concern for the Jags' entire offense, as Thomas' presence won't be commanding attention in the red zone as Blake Bortles looks to build on his big summer. Clay Harbor is the next man up at tight end. Already a low-end TE1, the injury-prone Thomas is firmly a TE2 for the final week of drafting. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 1:33 pm

  • Wright trade has nothing to do with Ebron?
DetroitLions.com's Tim Twentyman said the acquisition of TE Tim Wright had "nothing to do" with Eric Ebron.

Advice: Several Lions' beat writers have expressed the same sentiment following the trade with most speculating Wright's acquisition has more to do with the organization's feelings towards Joseph Fauria. Detroit could decide to keep four tight ends, but with Ebron and Brandon Pettigrew locks, Wright and Fauria could be competing for one roster spot. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 8:06 am

  • John Phillips could see more passes
ESPN Chargers reporter Eric D. Williams expects TE John Phillips to get more looks in the passing game with Antonio Gates suspended.

Advice: Williams said Phillips could be a threat "particularly near the red zone." A guy with 35 career receptions in six seasons is not going to become a fantasy asset, but this news could suggest the Chargers are not completely sold on Ladarius Green solely taking over Gates' role. Green has been quiet this preseason. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 6:49 am

  • Bucs ship TE Tim Wright to Detroit for kicker
Lions acquired TE Tim Wright from the Buccaneers in exchange for K Kyle Brindza.

Advice: Wright's odyssey continues. After a breakout rookie campaign in Tampa Bay, Wright was acquired by the Patriots in a similarly timed trade last offseason. He struggled to make a consistent impact in New England and was waived in June. The Bucs claimed Wright off waivers but have now traded him for the second time in as many years. In Detroit, Wright will compete with Joseph Fauria for snaps behind Eric Ebron and Brandon Pettigrew. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 6:15 am

  • Mychal Rivera goes 3-42 against Cardinals
Mychal Rivera caught three passes for 42 yards in the Raiders' third preseason game.

Advice: Rivera remained Derek Carr's chain-moving safety valve, making tough catches over the middle. There was early-camp talk of Rivera losing his starting job to rookie Clive Walford, but Walford has missed almost all of training camp with a hamstring injury. Through three preseason affairs, Rivera has four catches for 61 yards. He'll be a low-ceiling TE2 in fantasy this season. Rotoworld.com Sunday, 8:00 pm

Chargers waived TE David Paulson, QB Chase Rettig, LB Brock Hekking, TE Logan Stokes, OT Forrestal Hickman, CB Manny Asprilla, DL Cam Botticelli, WR Titus Davis, RB Jahwan Edwards, LB Curtis Grant, and DL Luther Robinson.

Advice: This is the Chargers' first round of cuts. Rotoworld.com Sunday, 5:10 pm

  • Fiedorowicz goes catch-less against Saints
Texans TE C.J. Fiedorowicz was held catch-less in Sunday night's third preseason game.

Advice: Although Fiedorowicz stayed quiet in the passing game, it's noteworthy that he started and was a clear member of Houston's first-team offense. Fiedorowicz was an early third-round pick in the 2014 draft. The Texans need a complementary pass catcher to step up beyond DeAndre Hopkins. Fiedorowicz stayed on with the Ryan Mallett group and saw an end-zone target, but Mallett's throw was too far wide. Through three preseason contests, Fiedorowicz has two catches for 12 yards. • Vikings cut Brandon Bostick
    Vikings released TE Brandon Bostick.

Advice: The Vikings are going with Kyle Rudolph, MyCole Pruitt, and Chase Dixon instead. Bostick was claimed off waivers from the division-rival Packers all the way back in February. He failed to make it even to final cuts in Minnesota. Rotoworld.com Sunday, 3:47 pm

  • Ben Watson catches 9-yard pass
Ben Watson caught a nine-yard pass in the Saints' third preseason game.

Advice: As he has all camp, Watson operated as an every-down tight end with the Saints' first-team offense. He caught a nine-yard pass on New Orleans' opening possession, getting the offense in scoring position. Watson continued to play ahead of Josh Hill and has a chance to be a viable streamer against sub-par defenses this year. Watson has a 3-21-1 receiving line this preseason. Watson's season-long ceiling remains low going on age 35. Rotoworld.com Sunday, 2:36 pm

  • Falcons release Mickey Shuler, waive 12 more
    Falcons released TE Mickey Shuler.

Advice: A career journeyman, Shuler played three games for the Jaguars last season. Atlanta also waived LB Boris Anyama, WR Marquez Clark, RB Michael Ford, WR John Harris, DT Warren Herring, NT Derrick Hopkins, OT Matt Huffer, CB Michael Lee, G Eric Lefeld, LB Terrell Manning, DE Sam Meredith and C Valerian Ume-Ezeoke. Atlanta needs to make one more roster move before Tuesday's deadline. Rotoworld.com Sunday, 2:23 pm

  • Demetrius Harris resumes practicing
Chiefs TE Demetrius Harris (foot) returned to practice on Sunday.

Advice: He's been activated from the PUP list. Harris has broken the same foot twice over the past two seasons. He'll now try to put heat on impressive fifth-round pick James O'Shaughnessy behind locked-in starter Travis Kelce. Rotoworld.com Sunday, 2:05 pm

  • Panthers make first cuts
Panthers waived/released TE Dallas Walker, WR Avius Capers, WR Paul Browning, DE Steve Miller, LB Kevin Reddick, FB Lee Ward, OT Tony Hills and P Matt Pile.

Advice: The majority of these players were just practice fodder for the early preseason games and training camp. Walker is a former UDFA out of Western Michigan with big-time athleticism, but has now been cut by three different teams. Rotoworld.com Sunday, 10:49 am

  • Green targeted twice in Saturday's loss
Ladarius Green nabbed one catch for 18 yards in Saturday's preseason loss to the Seahawks.

Advice: Green hasn't had quite the preseason fantasy owners were hoping for. In three games, he's hauled in just two passes for 27 yards. The 25-year-old will get a chance to start with Antonio Gates sidelined for the first four weeks but is nothing more than a late-round flyer. Rotoworld.com Saturday, 9:20 pm

  • Jared Cook catches five-yard pass vs. Colts

  • Maxx Williams will not play Saturday
Ravens rookie TE Maxx Williams will not play in the team's third preseason game.

Advice: Williams has been practicing all week in a non-contact jersey with an undisclosed injury. Sitting out hurts Williams' chances of opening as a consistent contributor, but he could grow into a big role as the season progresses. Rotoworld.com Saturday, 4:01 pm

  • Julius Thomas still expected to play Week 1
Jaguars coach Gus Bradley said "everything points to" Julius Thomas (hand) playing Week 1.

Advice: The Jags have always been confident Thomas will be ready Week 1, but it is good to hear he has not suffered any setbacks. SS Johnathan Cyprien (hand) is also expected back by the opener. Rotoworld.com Saturday, 9:20 am

  • Ebron doesn't play in preseason game
Eric Ebron surprisingly did not play in the Lions' third preseason game.

  • Tim Wright not likely to make final roster
ESPN Bucs reporter Pat Yasinskas said TE Tim Wright will struggle to make the final roster.

Advice: Wright always faced an uphill battle with Austin Seferian-Jenkins, Brandon Myers and Luke Stocker ahead of him on the depth chart, but he has not helped himself by struggling to make plays in camp. Wright will find plenty of takers if he ends up getting cut, but his breakout rookie campaign is feeling like a distant memory. Rotoworld.com Monday, 8:13 am

  • Ladarius Green catches nine-yard pass vs. SD
Ladarius Green caught a nine-yard pass in Saturday's preseason game.

Advice: Cast wise, the Chargers mailed it in on offense tonight, but Green now has only one catch through two preseason games. Green is locked in as San Diego's Weeks 1-4 starter in the absence of Antonio Gates (suspension), but has created very little buzz this summer. Rotoworld.com Aug 22, 9:51 pm

  • Maxx Williams has three-catch night vs. PHI
Maxx Williams caught 3-of-4 targets for 25 yards in Saturday's preseason game against the Eagles.

Advice: Williams spent time with both the first- and second-team offenses. Williams reportedly hasn't been making many plays in practice, but is up to 5/61 through two preseason games. The talented rookie is on the TE2 radar. Rotoworld.com Aug 22, 9:31 pm
