  • Dak Prescott's preseason: 7 TDs, 0 turnovers
Dak Prescott completed 17-of-23 passes for 116 yards and one touchdown in the Cowboys' third preseason game, adding two rushes for 12 yards.

Advice: Through three exhibition contests, Prescott is 39-of-50 passing (78.0 percent) for 454 yards (9.08 YPA) and a 5:0 TD-to-INT ratio with 53 yards and two more scores on seven carries. That makes seven all-purpose touchdowns for Dak, compared to zero turnovers. The sample size remains small and Prescott has been put in consistently favorable situations by Dallas' coaching staff, but he also warrants recognition as one of the NFL's best preseason stories. He particularly excelled under pressure in Thursday night's game at Seattle, keeping the offense on the move despite the absence of Dez Bryant (concussion). Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 9:21 pm

  • Matt Ryan closes preseason on dismal note
Matt Ryan completed 12-of-22 passes for 129 yards, zero touchdowns and an interception in Thursday's preseason game.

Advice: It wasn't what the Falcons wanted to see. Ryan struggled to make plays, while his interception was another inexcusable pass in the red zone. Coming off a year he had as many turnovers as touchdowns (seriously), Ryan closes up the preseason 18-of-37 (48.6 percent) for 207 yards (5.59 YPA), zero scores and one pick. He's a lower-end QB2 as his career continues to go in the wrong direction. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 7:02 pm

  • Tannehill closes preseason on solid note
Ryan Tannehill completed 20-of-29 passes for 155 yards, zero touchdowns and an interception in Thursday's preseason game.

Advice: He added two carries for 22 yards. They're mediocre stats, but the Dolphins' coaching staff probably liked what it saw from its quarterback. Tannehill appeared more in command than he's been in years past, going so far as to — gasp — audible. His decision-making still wasn't the best — the pick was a tipped ball thrown directly at a lineman — but he showed his usual nice connection with Jarvis Landry in addition to Kenny Stills. Tannehill closes the book on the exhibition season 34-of-53 for 325 yards (6.13 YPA), two touchdowns and a pick. He's a mid-range QB2 under quarterback whisperer Adam Gase. • Siemian has already won Broncos starting job?
Appearing on Mike Clay's Sirius Fantasy show, ESPN Broncos reporter Jeff Legwold stated that Trevor Siemian "has won the starting job."

Advice: Siemian apparently "won the starting job" in a preseason game he was pick sixed by 49ers FS Eric Reid. More accurately, Mark Sanchez outright lost the starting job with three turnovers in Denver's first two exhibitions, and Paxton Lynch isn't quite ready yet. Siemian is on track to start Week 1, but if he starts the season slow, coach Gary Kubiak could have a quick hook. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 3:25 pm

  • Kap believes he can still win starting job
Colin Kaepernick said he believes he can still win the starting job.

Advice: "Yeah, most definitely," Kaepernick said. "I’m going to go out and show everything I can these next two games and make sure I put my best foot forward to show this organization, this team, this coaching staff what I’m capable of." Kap's injury issues have given Blaine Gabbert a big head start, but he has not taken advantage of the opportunity through two preseason games. Teddy Bridgewater (shoulder) is expected to start Sunday against Chargers.

  • Lions are going all-in on no-huddle offense
The Lions' offense has utilized a no-huddle look on 62 percent of their plays during the preseason.

Advice: Detroit used no-huddle on just 7.0 percent of plays last season, finishing 30th in situation-neutral pace according to Football Outsiders. Both numbers should be significantly higher this year. "The faster you can push the tempo, when you want to, really, it just makes it more stressful on the defense," Matthew Stafford said. "If you feel like you're playing at a normal speed, and they think you're playing really fast, it feels a whole lot better for us." Stafford shined with OC Jim Bob Cooter calling the shots late last season, and the coordinator is molding his system to Stafford's strengths again this year. Currently the 16th fantasy quarterback off the board, it is possible Stafford is being undervalued. Rotoworld.com Yesterday, 5:48 am

"I think it’s a good opportunity for us to take another step as a team." Gary Kubiak will be giddy to hear his new starting quarterback is a veteran at coachspeak. The Jets' coaching staff acknowledged that second-round QB Christian Hackenberg has flaws in his mechanics.

Advice: Despite these flaws, the Jets have been careful not to overwhelm Hackenberg while he's still learning the playbook. "It's like a golfer," said QBs coach Kevin Patullo. "You don't want to change his swing midseason." Obviously the Jets are in no rush to get Hackenberg on the field. Right now he's a distant fourth on the depth chart. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 4:07 pm

  • Geno Smith still ahead of Bryce Petty
Geno Smith will function as the Jets' No. 2 quarterback for Saturday's preseason game against the Giants.

Advice: Smith has faced competition from Bryce Petty throughout camp but it appears he's still in the driver's seat for backup duties behind starter Ryan Fitzpatrick. It would probably make life easier for the Jets if Petty wins the job over Smith, who could easily be traded or let go. If Smith holds off Petty, there's a real chance the Jets could open the year with four quarterbacks on their 53-man roster. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 1:44 pm

Teddy Bridgewater (shoulder) has resumed throwing.

Advice: Bridgewater missed last Thursday's preseason game, and was held out of practice over the weekend. He was limited to throws of roughly 15 yards in distance on Tuesday. The Vikings never even formally acknowledged that Bridgewater is/was hurt. It's not a concern for his Week 1 status, though he could miss this weekend's important third preseason game. • Joe Flacco (knee) to see preseason action
Joe Flacco (knee) will play in Saturday's preseason game against the Lions.

Advice: In the final stages of his recovery from a torn ACL, Flacco sat out Baltimore's first two exhibition tilts. "You need to get back out there (and) you need to get your mind used to getting ready for a game," Flacco said. "And then, yeah, I need to get over that last hurdle, which is going out there and being a live target for guys to hit and see how I react to it." It's important for the entire offense, as the third preseason game serves as a team's "regular season dress rehearsal," so to speak. • Broncos will not owe pick if Sanchez is cut
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the draft pick Denver traded for Mark Sanchez was a conditional pick.

Advice: That means the Broncos will not owe the Eagles anything if they decide to release Sanchez at final cuts. • Hackenberg finally getting more practice reps
Jets second-round QB Christian Hackenberg has gotten more snaps at practice this week.

Advice: It is difficult to develop as a quarterback without getting any practice or game reps, and yet that is exactly how Hackenberg has started his first NFL training camp. The Jets have finally started to get him some real work in practice, and, perhaps unsurprisingly, it has reportedly been ugly. • Sanchez behind Siemian, may lose roster spot
9 News Denver's Mike Klis confirms Mark Sanchez has fallen behind Trevor Siemian in the Broncos' quarterback battle.

Advice: Sanchez is now in danger of losing the backup job to rookie Paxton Lynch. "The competition may no longer be Siemian vs. Sanchez," wrote Klis, "but Siemian vs. Lynch." Klis suggests Sanchez's roster spot isn't secure if he can't hold off Lynch due to a $4.5 million salary, all of which would come off of Denver's cap were Sanchez cut. Advice: The Sacramento Bee confirms Kaepernick is "on track" to get some playing time in this weekend's third exhibition game. Blaine Gabbert remains the favorite to start Week 1, but Kap could turn it into a competition if he turns it on late in the preseason. Gabbert has struggled in both practices and games. Siemian hasn't quite sewn up the job in camp and exhibition action, but coach Gary Kubiak is giving him a golden opportunity to change that. "He’s always been in the mix," Kubiak said of Lynch. "I just told you guys that he’s behind the other two from a knowledge standpoint, but we’ve been out there competing every day. It would have been easy to move on from Petty but his emergence means the Jets may end up keeping four quarterbacks on their 53-man roster. On Saturday, Sanchez was more willing to challenge downfield than starter Trevor Siemian, but Sanchez absorbed three sacks, losing fumbles on two, and was his typically scattershot self across 20 pass dropbacks. • Tannehill throws for 162 and 2 TDs Friday
Ryan Tannehill completed 12-of-20 passes for 162 yards and two touchdowns Friday night against the Cowboys.

Advice: He added two rushes for 16 yards including a nine-yard gain on an option keeper. Tannehill's best plays of the night both went to Kenny Stills. The first was a 55-yard bomb on the move in the first quarter, and the second was a beautiful touch pass for a three-yard score near the end of the first half. • Petty throws for 242 yards, 2 TDs in 2nd half
Bryce Petty completed 16-of-26 passes for 242 yards and two touchdowns Friday night against the Redskins.

The Jets opened with two three-and-outs to start the half, but he put together a nice 9-play drive capped by a 19-yard strike to Zach Sudfeld late in the third quarter. He added a 42-yard score late in the fourth quarter to give New York the lead. Petty once again made some nice throws and for the most part looked competent running the offense. Advice: It's a two-way battle between Mark Sanchez and Trevor Siemian at this stage. "It’s been very close," said Kubiak. "We’ve worked very evenly, and I think each day they come out here and try to show me somehow they should be the guy. But ultimately, we’ve got to pick one." GM John Elway indicated no starter will be named until after three preseason games. We're penciling in Sanchez as the Week 1 starter, but fully expect him to be on a short leash if he indeed gets the nod. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 7:50 pm

  • Kaepernick hasn't thrown pass in six days
Colin Kaepernick (dead arm) remained sidelined in Tuesday's practice, and hasn't thrown a pass in six days.

Advice: At this point, Kap is looking extremely doubtful for Saturday's preseason game. It's an absence he can't afford after missing the opener. In another bad sign, the 49ers signed Christian Ponder on Tuesday. Blaine Gabbert has just about sewn up the starting job. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 12:27 pm

  • Flacco's knee still isn't 100 percent healthy
Joe Flacco says his surgically-repaired knee still isn't 100 percent, but he's yet to miss a practice rep.

Advice: "I don't think about it when I'm out there," Flacco claimed. "It's not perfect. I can feel it standing here right now a little bit. It's not totally normal. But, as far as going out there and operating on the field, running around and doing things, I don't pay attention to it." Flacco's accuracy could take a minor hit as he works to regain his natural feel on the field, but barring another missile to the knee, he shouldn't miss any games this season. • Cowboys no longer in the market for a QB?
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones hinted he is no longer in the market for a quarterback following Dak Prescott's performance in the preseason opener.

Advice: "I wouldn’t consider a backup quarterback situation at all," Jones said. "I wouldn’t want to, by any way, deter the progress and the excitement that he can bring to the building of the team and the future." While that quote is not explicit, it seems to suggest the Cowboys are happy to ride or die with Prescott as the backup. It will be interesting to see if that opinion shifts once Prescott inevitably struggles. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 5:52 am
