  • Pettine: 'Fair to say' McCown opens as starter
Speaking Monday, coach Mike Pettine said it's "fair to say" Josh McCown will open training camp as the Browns' starting quarterback.

Advice: This comes as no surprise. McCown received $6.25 million guaranteed in the offseason, and Johnny Manziel just got out of rehab last month. After the Browns failed to draft a quarterback over the weekend, it further cemented McCown's place atop the depth chart. However, if McCown looks like the Buccaneer version of himself rather than the Bear, Manziel will make 2015 starts. Rotoworld.com

  • ESPN Cleveland expects McCown to start
ESPN Cleveland expects Josh McCown to be the Browns' Week 1 starter.

Advice: As do we, though the Browns' quarterback situation has clarified following the draft. With no signal callers taken, the Browns have set up a direct McCown-Johnny Manziel showdown. The Browns made no secret of their desperation to move on from Johnny Football this offseason, but it's well within the realm of possibility he makes starts in 2015. McCown is not a viable starting quarterback. Rotoworld.com

  • Winston's contract bans him from baseball
Jameis Winston's rookie contract with the Bucs includes a clause that he can't play baseball.

Advice: Winston compiled nine saves across two seasons as FSU's closer, recording a sparkling 1.08 ERA and 0.92 WHIP with 52 strikeouts in 60 1/3 innings. He was selected in the 12th round by the Texas Rangers in the 2012 draft and is eligible to be drafted again in June. And back in February, Winston said playing both sports professionally "always has been my dream." But the Bucs squashed any notion of that, locking Winston's focus on being their franchise quarterback. Rotoworld.com

Coach Pete Carroll said contract talks with Russell Wilson are "going a little slow, but it's ongoing."

Advice: Carroll said the Seahawks are "waiting to hear from their side." This will be one of the biggest contracts in NFL history and there's no real rush right now, so it's not a surprise it's taking some time. Previous reports had Wilson accepting less overall money for a record-breaking amount of guarantees. "I'd rather patiently wait & see what God has in store than do something that isn't best for my life," Wilson tweeted shortly after Carroll spoke. Rotoworld.com

The Packers don't consider fifth-round QB Brett Hundley "completely developmental."

Advice: "He's played at a big-time program," Packers director of player personnel Eliot Wolf said. "(UCLA's) offense is obviously different from ours, but you can see all the big-time throws that he can make." Wolf also called Hundley a "football nerd," while coach Mike McCarthy praised his escapability. Hundley should get the benefit of the doubt when battling Scott Tolzien for No. 2 duties. Rotoworld.com

  • Jets not looking for Petty to start this year
The Jets are not expecting fourth-round QB Bryce Petty to start games this season.

Advice: It's easy to think big for Petty because he put up jaw-dropping college numbers and only has Ryan Fitzpatrick/Geno Smith ahead of him. Slow down. "He's got a lot to learn," coach Todd Bowles said. "We're not looking forward for him to be a starter right now." Taking the long-view with Petty makes a lot of sense, as he has a high ceiling but has plenty of development to do. Rotoworld.com

Bears signed ECU QB Shane Carden.

Advice: Carden (6'2/218) was named the American Conference's Offensive POY by the league's coaches as a senior after completing 66.6 percent of his collegiate passes with an 86:30 TD-to-INT ratio. A scrambling threat at ECU, Carden added 24 rushing TDs, but has 4.94 speed and isn't a true dual threat. A weak-armed but tough prospect who will likely spend his NFL career holding a clipboard, Carden has been compared to Bruce Gradkowski by CBS Sports' Dane Brugler. Rotoworld.com

Broncos selected Northwestern QB Trevor Siemian with the No. 250 overall pick in the 2015 NFL draft.

Advice: Siemian (6'3/220) was a late riser, surprisingly garnering plenty of interest in the weeks before draft weekend. He tore his ACL in November and wasn't able to work out in the pre-draft process. During his time at Northwestern, Siemian passed for 5,931 career yards, 27 touchdowns and 24 interceptions. • Packers add project QB Brett Hundley at 147
Packers traded up to select UCLA QB Brett Hundley with the No. 147 overall pick in the 2015 NFL draft.

Advice: Green Bay included a 7th, No. 247, to move up. Hundley (6'3/226) made 40 starts as a Bruin, completing 67.6 percent of his passes with a 75:25 TD-to-INT ratio and 30 more rushing scores. He absorbed a whopping 125 sacks in three college seasons, also fumbling 29 times. Although Hundley is strong armed and a terrific athlete, he showed zero feel for the pocket at UCLA and completed an abysmal 32.6 percent of his throws on the run. Smart (26 Wonderlic) with NFL-caliber tools, Hundley is a multi-year project who needs to ride the bench for at least a season or two, and will be afforded that time with the Packers. Rotoworld.com

  • Saints make Grayson the 3rd QB off board at 75
Saints selected Colorado State QB Garrett Grayson with the No. 75 overall pick in the 2015 NFL draft.

Advice: Grayson (6'3/213) made 35 starts for the Rams, earning Mountain West Offensive POY as a senior and wrapping his career with a 62.1 completion rate and 54:25 TD-to-INT ratio. A plus athlete, Grayson ran 4.72/4.78 at the CSU Pro Day, also impressing in the vertical (34") and broad (10'1") jumps. Grayson made anticipation throws from the pocket in Colorado State's pro-style offense, took 91 percent of his snaps from under center, and showed an ability to deliver the football under duress. His arm strength is average, however, and Grayson's ball placement is inconsistent. He would do well to settle in as a high-end NFL backup. Fortunately, he lands with offensive guru Sean Payton and will get to learn behind Drew Brees. Rotoworld.com

Bucs signed No. 1 overall pick QB Jameis Winston to a four-year, $25.35 million contract with a club option for 2019.

Advice: The fully guaranteed deal includes a $16.7 million signing bonus. It comes with shocking expediency after last year's No. 1 overall pick Jadeveon Clowney took 29 days to sign. SI's Peter King confirms the Bears dangled Jay Cutler in a trade offer to the Titans Thursday night.

Advice: The Titans had zero interest in Cutler, so talks went nowhere. • As expected, Bucs make QB Winston No. 1 pick
Buccaneers selected Florida State QB Jameis Winston with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 NFL draft.

Advice: Winston (6'4/231) was a dominant college quarterback, earning the Heisman as a redshirt freshman in 2013 and leading the 'Noles to a BCS national title followed by an undefeated 2014 regular season. Finishing his career with a 65:28 TD-to-INT ratio and sterling 66.0 completion rate, Winston consistently made the likes of Rashad Greene and Nick O'Leary look far better than they really were. While a sub-par athlete, Winston is an old-school pocket quarterback with a naturally anticipatory and aggressive passing mindset that too often resulted in interceptions in 2014, exacerbated by a poor supporting cast. Purely from a tools standpoint, Winston projects somewhere in between Eli Manning and Ben Roethlisberger. In Tampa Bay, he's set up for early success surrounded by Mike Evans, Vincent Jackson, and Austin Seferian-Jenkins in OC Dirk Koetter's vertical-passing attack. Rotoworld.com

It is always exciting when the Sanchez-Tebow circus comes to town. Of course, if the Eagles really just wanted a guy to throw while Bradford was sidelined, they would have signed someone who could actually throw.
