  • Brown back at Cardinals practice on Thursday
John Brown (concussion) returned to Cardinals practice Thursday.

Advice: Brown's Wednesday headache looks like it was just a scare after he returned from his concussion on Sunday. It's still obviously a situation to monitor, and a concern heading into Week 1. Brown will probably be held out of this weekend's regular season dress rehearsal. Rotoworld.com 28 minutes ago

  • Sashi: Browns 'not looking to trade' Gordon
Browns EVP Sashi Brown the team is "not looking to trade" Josh Gordon.

Advice: ESPN Cleveland's Tony Grossi reported Wednesday there is a "cynical point of view out there" that the Browns leaked a report about trade offers for Gordon in order to drum up more interest. Brown said he was not going to "entertain" that "speculation." It is important to note, however, Brown did say every player has a price, and saying the team is "not looking to trade" is considerably different than saying Gordon will not be traded. Gordon will most likely stay in Cleveland, but it is not a given. Rotoworld.com Today, 9:35 am

Meanwhile rookie Tyler Boyd has had a productive preseason while drawing praise from WRs coach James Urban. "He's a natural football player," said Urban. "He has great football instincts." According to Demovsky, Abbrederis has enjoyed a "strong showing" at training camp and "continues to move up the depth chart." • Steelers slot WR Eli Rogers posts 4-39 line
Steelers second-year WR Eli Rogers caught 4-of-4 targets for 39 yards in Thursday's second preseason game against the Eagles.

Advice: With Antonio Brown and Markus Wheaton inactive, Rogers ran with the "first-team" offense guided by backup QB Landry Jones. Jones tossed four interceptions, but Rogers made the most of his targets. The 5'10/187 slot man has drawn rave reviews from OC Todd Haley, and Ben Roethlisberger reportedly "loves" Rogers. If Sammie Coates continues to struggle this preseason, Rogers could slide right into some three-wide snaps between Brown and Wheaton. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 7:05 pm

  • Coleman sitting out second preseason game
Browns WR Corey Coleman (hamstring) is sitting out Thursday's preseason game.

Advice: Coleman returned to practice Monday, but the Browns aren't going to force the issue with their prize first-rounder. Barring a setback, Coleman will be ready for next week's regular season dress rehearsal. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 10:13 am

  • Dez says his 'mind is right' leaving camp
Dez Bryant said his "mind is right" leaving training camp.

Advice: "My confidence is sky-high right now," Bryant said. "I think it's the best it's ever been." Bryant has not shown any ill effects from the foot injury which derailed his 2015, and he looked to be back in form during the first preseason game. As long as he and Tony Romo stay healthy, Dez should return to the high-end WR1 ranks. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 9:10 am

  • Gruden: 'We’ll take our time' with Doctson
Redskins coach Jay Gruden said the team will "take our time" with Josh Doctson (Achilles').

Advice: "I don’t have any expectations for him whatsoever," Gruden said. "I’m just trying to listen to what the trainers are telling me and how he’s feeling. I don’t know. We’ll just have to wait and see." Gruden has refused to put a timetable on Doctson's return, but he did say the rookie is "progressing nicely." It is possible Doctson gets in some work before the end of camp, but he is extremely unlikely to earn an early-season role. Rotoworld.com Thursday, 7:09 am

  • DeAndre Smelter expected to return in 2 weeks
49ers GM Trent Baalke expects WR DeAndre Smelter to play this preseason.

Advice: Smelter has been sidelined for most of training camp with a soft-tissue injury. He'll likely miss the next two weeks, but isn't yet a candidate for I.R. Smelter will compete with Quinton Patton for the starting split-end job once he gets cleared. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 1:35 pm

  • Gruden: Josh Doctson 'progressing nicely'
Coach Jay Gruden said Josh Doctson (Achilles’) is "progressing nicely."

Advice: The Redskins have yet to put a timetable on Doctson’s return, but he’s expected to miss at least another week. He could sit out the entire preseason and is questionable for Week 1. Even when healthy, Doctson will open the year behind DeSean Jackson, Pierre Garcon, and Jamison Crowder. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 1:24 pm

  • Steve Smith passes physical, coming off PUP
Ravens activated Steve Smith Sr. (Achilles') from the active/PUP list.

Advice: Expect Senior to practice in team drills sometime this week. Don't look for him to be on the field for the Ravens' second preseason game, but he could play a couple snaps in the third one just to get his feet wet for Week 1. With Kamar Aiken and Mike Wallace, the Ravens won't need to rely as heavily on Smith Sr. as they did last season. He turned 37 in May. Rotoworld.com Wednesday, 10:07 am

  • Breshad Perriman a reserve/PUP candidate?
The Ravens' website mentioned reserve/PUP as a possibility for second-year WR Breshad Perriman (ACL).

Advice: Again slow to recover from his latest knee injury, Perriman's projected return date had been mid-August. He has resumed running, but doesn't appear to be close to practicing. Reserve/PUP looks like Perriman's likeliest destination. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 7:01 pm

  • John Brown (concussion) still not cleared
John Brown remains in the league's concussion protocol.

Advice: Coach Bruce Arians called it a "concern," and said the team will continue being cautious. Brown has now been sidelined over two weeks. He'll obviously miss Friday's preseason game, and should be considered questionable for next week's regular season dress rehearsal. Worrisome as it is, there's still no reason to ding Brown's draft status as an upside WR3. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 12:23 pm

  • Green-Beckham will not play on Thursday
Eagles coach Doug Pederson said Dorial Green-Beckham will not play in the second preseason game.

Advice: Acquired from the Titans on Tuesday, Green-Beckham will not even get a chance to practice with the team before Thursday night's game. DGB was slow to catch on with the Titans as a rookie, and it is likely he will take some time to acclimate himself in Philadelphia. Still, he has the talent to push for the No. 2 receiver spot early in the season. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 9:30 am

  • Lewis doesn't expect LaFell to miss Week 1
Bengals coach Marvin Lewis does not expect Brandon LaFell (hand) to miss Week 1.

Advice: LaFell reportedly has a torn ligament in his hand which could require surgery. Since an operation would almost certainly knock him out for the opener, Lewis' comments could mean LaFell will avoid surgery. Brandon Tate started opposite A.J. Green with LaFell sidelined during the preseason opener, but rookie Tyler Boyd will likely take most of his reps. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 9:11 am

  • Report: LaFell has torn ligament in hand
NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reports Brandon LaFell has a torn ligament in his hand.

Advice: LaFell sat out the preseason opener and had not been practicing this week. Now we know why. Garafolo reports it is possible LaFell has surgery to repair the issue, but the injury is not expected to be a season-ender. With LaFell out last week, Brandon Tate started in two-wide sets opposite A.J. Green with Tyler Boyd in the slot. With LaFell now out indefinitely, it is likely the Bengals move Boyd outside. • Harbaugh has no update on Perriman (knee)
Ravens coach John Harbaugh said he has no update on Breshad Perriman's (knee) timetable.

Advice: Perriman is recovering from a partially torn ACL he suffered in June. Harbaugh admits this was around the time when they expected Perriman back, but there is not a set date for his return. He has begun running, but it seems like he is still weeks away. Coming off a lost rookie season, it would be surprising if Perriman had a large early-season role. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 8:43 am

  • Stunner: Eagles acquire Dorial Green-Beckham
Eagles acquired WR Dorial Green-Beckham from the Titans in exchange for G/T Dennis Kelly.

Advice: Green-Beckham had clearly fallen out of favor with the Titans' coaching staff, but it is still stunning they decided to trade a 2015 second-round pick for an at best swing lineman. Despite his struggles, Green-Beckham probably has the most natural talent of any receiver on the Eagles' roster and should push for a role behind Jordan Matthews. That said, he struggled to earn snaps in a similarly lackluster receiver corps in Tennessee. While this trade certainly breathes life in DGB's fantasy outlook, he is still nothing more than a flier at this point. Fellow disappointment Nelson Agholor could be on his way out of the starting lineup. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 6:55 am

  • GM Reese: 'We’re still not giving up on Cruz'
Giants GM Jerry Reese said the team is "still not giving up on" Victor Cruz (groin).

Advice: Despite not giving up, Reese did not sound particularly optimistic, saying, "Hopefully, he’ll make it back." Cruz aggravated his groin injury when he attempted to return to practice Sunday and is now unlikely to play in the second preseason game. Reese certainly recognizes any contributions from Cruz this season will be a bonus. Rotoworld.com Tuesday, 6:45 am

  • DGB remains second-teamer on depth chart
Dorial Green-Beckham remains listed as a second-team receiver on the Titans' latest depth chart.

Advice: During the preseason, teams are required to post depth charts each week. It means very little, but this is still notable, even if it was expected. DGB continues to draw the ire of coach Mike Mularkey, who keeps calling the sophomore receiver "inconsistent." One of fantasy football's favorite pre-summer breakout candidates, DGB is in danger of opening the year as a backup. Rotoworld.com Monday, 3:40 pm

  • DeAndre Smelter could spend '16 season on IR
CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco agrees with the Santa Rosa Press Democrat that second-year WR DeAndre Smelter is a candidate for injured reserve.

Advice: Maiocco suggests Smelter could eventually be activated as the 49ers' injured reserve-designated for return player, but that of course remains to be seen. Smelter is out indefinitely with an "undisclosed condition" after missing his rookie year with a torn ACL suffered in college, then battling a hamstring injury at OTAs. It's nearing time to cut the cord on Smelter in Dynasty leagues. Rotoworld.com Monday, 2:31 pm

  • DeAndre Smelter is 'week to week'
49ers WR DeAndre Smelter is "week to week" with an undisclosed injury.

Advice: Smelter was inactive for San Francisco's preseason opener and coach Chip Kelly has already ruled him out for the second exhibition. The Santa Rosa Press Democrat recently predicted Smelter will spend the 2016 season on injured reserve. Smelter spent all of his rookie campaign on an injured list, as well. Corey Coleman (hamstring) returned to 11-on-11s at Browns practice Monday.

Suspended WR Josh Gordon is expected to practice Monday after being removed from the NFI list.

Advice: Gordon suffered a quad injury after reporting out of shape, but he is back healthy and reportedly shedding weight. It is unlikely he plays this week, but he should be ready for the third preseason game. Gordon is suspended in Weeks 1-4. Rotoworld.com Aug 15, 8:44 am
