    • Reverts to IR
Haynes (quadriceps) reverted to injured reserve Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Advice: Haynes was waived by Houston with an injury designation Tuesday, and he subsequently reverted to IR after clearing waivers. Per Wilson, Haynes and the Texans are working on an injury settlement. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:50 pm

    • Lands with Pittsburgh
The Steelers signed Gathings to a one-year contract Wednesday, Teresa Varley of the team's official site reports.

Advice: Gathings spent time on the Chiefs' practice squad last season and signed a reserve/future deal with Kansas City in February before being cut May 4. The 23-year-old out of Middle Tennessee joins a deep Pittsburgh tight-end corps that is headed by Pat Freiermuth, Darnell Washington and Connor Heyward, though that group was relatively unproductive last season. • Waived due to undisclosed injury
Stepp was waived-injured by the Jets on Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Advice: Stepp was signed by the Jets as an undrafted free agent May 13, but he's dealing with an undisclosed injury. If the running back clears waivers, he'll revert to IR. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:19 pm

    • Adds weight in offseason
Smith has added 15 pounds during the offseason, Hal Habib of The Palm Beach Post reports.

Advice: Smith put on weight to help him better endure a 17-game season, though he spent much of his rookie year on the sidelines with just 20 defensive snaps over 15 games. The South Carolina product was a second-round draft pick in 2023, so the lack of opportunities was somewhat surprising, but he could get a chance to see the field more often in Year 2 with Vic Fangio replaced by Anthony Weaver as Miami's defensive coordinator. • Dealing with thumb injury
Packers coach Matt LaFleur said Wednesday that Van Ness is dealing with a broken thumb, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports.

Advice: LaFleur did not get into the origin of Van Ness' injury, but he downplayed the severity of the issue by saying that Van Ness "broke his thumb just a little bit," per Demovsky. The 2023 first-round pick also did not participate in Green Bay's voluntary OTA sessions Wednesday, according to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic, so it will be worth monitoring by the start of the team's mandatory minicamp on June 11. Van Ness recorded 32 tackles and 4.0 sacks over 17 games during his rookie season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:04 pm

    • Could wear green dot in 2024
Packers coach Matt LaFleur said Wednesday that Walker "more than likely" will wear the green dot helmost as the Packers' primary defensive communicator, Ryan Wood of USA Today reports.

Advice: Walker logged over 100 tackles during each of his first two seasons in Green Bay, making him the team's most proven off-ball linebacker with De'Vondre Campbell now in San Francisco. The Packers are shifting to a new 4-3 defensive scheme under first-year defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley, and the team added Edgerrin Cooper in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft while bringing back veteran Isaiah McDuffie. So, Walker will still likely have to prove that he's capable of handling a bigger role as Hafley begins to implement his defense this offseason. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 7:53 pm

    • Misdemeanors filed against Chiefs DL Isaiah Buggs
ESPN’s Adam Teicher reports two misdemeanor warrants have been filed against Chiefs DL Isaiah Buggs on charges of cruelty to dogs in the second degree.

Advice: Buggs was charged in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, where he played college football for the Crimson Tide. Court documents say that two dogs were found on the porch of a home rented by Buggs with no access to food or water. Buggs’ agent, Trey Robinson, denies the charges, saying the dogs do not belong to Buggs and the charges are part of a campaign to force the closure of a hookah lounge he owns in Tuscaloosa. Robinson also stated that Buggs was arrested on misdemeanor chargers twice in the past two months at his hookah lounge, but no public record was made of these arrests. He maintains that this is part of a campaign to force him to surrender his business license. Buggs started his career with three seasons in Pittsburgh, then two with the Lions before joining the Chiefs’ practice squad in January and then re-signing on a futures contract. He is the latest Chief to face legal troubles this offseason. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:37 pm

    • Kittle (core-muscle) expects to be ready for camp
George Kittle said he underwent core-muscle surgery in the offseason and expects to return to practice by training camp.

Advice: Kittle told reporters he suffered the injury around Week 9 or 10 and played through it for the remainder of the season. He has been out of commission for OTAs but wasn’t concerned about his availability for camp, saying his recovery is on schedule. Kittle topped 1,000 yards for the third time in his career and caught 65 passes despite the injury. He didn’t miss any games outside of the rest week all San Francisco starters got in Week 18. Though his production remains streaky, Kittle showed no signs of slowing in 2023 and remains in the middle of the TE1 pack. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:03 pm

    • Remains on track for training camp
Kittle (groin) has set a goal to be ready for training camp following core muscle surgery this offseason, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Advice: Kittle stated he played through the injury for about 10 weeks last season, according to David Lombardi of The Athletic. Although he was hurting, the two-time All-Pro still managed to accumulate 65 receptions (on 90 targets) for 1,020 yards and six scores. Even if the 49ers opt to err on the side of caution with Kittle when training camp approaches, it would not impact his status as one of the top fantasy options at tight end.
