Chiefs released RB La’Mical Perine.

Advice: Perine appeared in three games for the Chiefs last season and drew the start in a meaningless Week 18 game, where he totaled 109 yards from scrimmage against the Chargers. It was the most run Perine had seen since 2020, and he failed to take a regular season snap in 2022. The former fourth-round pick will be 26 at the start of this season and has a career rushing line of 94-340-2. He could earn another chance to compete for a job this offseason, but he’s unlikely to offer much fantasy upside regardless of landing spot. Rotoworld 9 minutes ago

T.J. Hockenson (knee) said he hasn’t “really put a timeline” on his return from last year’s season-ending knee injury.

Advice: Hockenson suffered a torn ACL and MCL in last year’s Week 16 loss to the Lions. The veteran tight end said he and the team are “taking it day by day, week by week” and noted that there are “so many variables” that one can go through during the rehab process. Hockenson also added he’s “doing really good right now,” which is an encouraging sign for the Vikings and fantasy managers. Still, the late timing of his injury could result in him missing time early in the season as he continues his recovery. The Vikings have Josh Oliver and Johnny Mundt both on the roster and also signed Robert Tonyan to a contract earlier this week. Tagovailoa has reportedly missed most of Miami's team activities this offseason while negotiations on a potential contract extension continue, Alain Poupart of SI.com reports.

Advice: Coach Mike McDaniel and GM Chris Grier have both vocally supported the idea of Tagovailoa remaining with the Dolphins on a long-term basis and an extension being penned this offseason; however, it sounds like until that's official, the team may not have the quarterback's full participation. That said, Tagovailoa was confirmedly a participant in part of Miami's offseason workouts back in April, with Poupart noting the team released videos of him throwing on multiple different days. There are no signs Tagovailoa would consider skipping June's mandatory minicamp, and the quarterback has downplayed concerns about contract negotiations. CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones believes it’s “unclear” if Tua Tagovailoa will participate in voluntary OTAs.

Advice: Jones said Tua, lobbying for a long-term deal with the Dolphins, has been “absent for the large majority of voluntary offseason work since the Dolphins reported back April 15" and might not join his teammates at voluntary workouts starting Monday. Tagovailoa said in April that he would not miss any offseason workouts while working out a contract with the team. Dolphins general manager Chris Grier has said he wants to sign Tua to a longer term deal — despite Tua’s shortcomings in an otherwise productive Miami offense. This situation will likely be resolved in the coming weeks. If it isn’t, Tagovailoa could face daily fines of $40,000 if he sits out some or all of training camp. Chargers GM Joe Hortiz said he believes Johnston is "really going to launch" as a starter during the 2024 season, Kevin Patra of NFL.com reports.

Advice: Horitz mentioned that in his time as director of player personnel with Baltimore last season that Johnston "was a player we liked," and he praised the 2023 first-round pick's work ethic this offseason while acknowledging "some rawness to his game" as a rookie. Johnston finished with a subpar 431 yards last season despite suiting up for all 17 games, but with Keenan Allen and Mike Williams (knee) no longer in the picture for Los Angeles, he has a clear path to a starting role alongside incumbent Joshua Palmer, while being joined by DJ Chark and rookie second-rounder Ladd McConkey. New coach Jim Harbaugh and OC Greg Roman could spark life to the Chargers' offense, though the new scheme projects as a run-heavy approach. Still, Johnston will have every opportunity to establish himself atop this depth chart, despite his uninspiring rookie production.
