• Saleh: No restrictions for Aaron Rodgers in OTAs
Jets HC Robert Saleh said he doesn’t expect there to be any restrictions placed on Aaron Rodgers for phase three of the offseason.

Advice: As NFL Network’s Rich Cimini points out, phase three consists of 10 OTA practices. Saleh said, “Once phase three hits, we’re not anticipating any restrictions from what we can and can’t do with him.” We’d certainly hope that’s the case after Rodgers flirted with the idea of returning before the end of last season, and even found himself placed on the 53-man roster despite being a healthy scratch. Rodgers is still working his way back from a torn Achilles, but the majority of reports on his recovery have been positive. Back in February, Rodgers said his Achilles “feels good” and that he could “do everything except sprint at a top speed.” With an exciting group of receivers and offensive weapons, Rodgers could be in for a solid 2024 if he’s able to return to form heading into his age-40 season. • Fifth-year option not picked up
The Jaguars didn't pick up Jones' fifth-year contract option, AL.com reports.

Advice: While Jacksonville picked up the fifth-year options of starting quarterback Trevor Lawrence and top running back Travis Etienne, the team elected not to do so with Jones, who the Patriots took 15th overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. The decision wasn't surprising, given that the value of the Alabama product's option was $25.6 million, the same figure that applied to Lawrence. With the Jaguars, Michael DiRocco of ESPN notes that Jones -- who was obtained from New England in exchange for a sixth-round draft pick -- is slated to compete with C.J. Beathard to be the team's top backup signal-caller in 2024, and potentially beyond. During his three-year stint with the Patriots, Jones drew 42 starts, but the 25-year-old's 2023 campaign wound up with him being benched after Week 12 in favor of Bailey Zappe. • Mayo: Maye, Brissett to compete for starting job
Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo said Drake Maye and Jacoby Brissett will compete for the team’s starting quarterback job.

Advice: “Ultimately, [Maye] still has to win that job and we’re not just gonna give it away,” Mayo said in a Thursday interview. “And I don’t think Jacoby — the type of player, the type of competitor that he is — is just gonna give it up, either. So, we’ll see what happens in camp.” Mayo said everyone would compete for Week 1 starting duties in training camp. Maye, the third overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, would have to struggle mightily in camp and during the preseason for the Patriots to consider starting Brissett in Week 1. Still, it will be a situation worth monitoring in the summer.

  • Daniel Jones ‘in a good spot’ with knee rehab
Daniel Jones said he’s “in a good spot” with his knee rehab.

Advice: A rough 2023 was made worse for Jones when he suffered a torn ACL in November. He then sat through an entire offseason wondering if the Giants would replace him despite signing a four-year, $160 million extension with them a year ago. Instead of drafting a new quarterback, the Giants opted to go with wide receiver Malik Nabers, who, in short order, should become Jones’ No. 1 weapon in the passing game. Jones should be ready at or close to the time training camp starts up for the Giants if all continues to go well, and said he’s “focused on what [he] can control” and will “be ready to go.” If he can get back to his 2022 form, which saw him finish as a top-12 fantasy QB seven times, Jones will have some high-end QB2 upside, but he’ll face a new challenge of figuring out how to move the ball in a post-Saquon Barkley world, which could prove difficult at times. • Fourth QB in Minnesota
Hall isn't projected to make the Vikings' 53-man roster, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.

Advice: A 2023 fifth-round pick, Hall played 46 offensive snaps as a rookie and turned the ball over three times while absorbing four sacks. He completed 13 of 20 passes for just 168 scoreless yards. With the Vikings' first-round selection of J.J. McCarthy following the signing of Sam Darnold, Hall will need to beat out veteran Nick Mullens for the third spot if he's going to stick in Minnesota. Rotowire.com Thursday, 9:59 am

  • In line to compete for depth slot
With veteran newcomer Jacoby Brissett and 2024 first-rounder Drake Maye viewed as roster locks, Zappe figures to compete with rookie sixth-rounder Joe Milton and Nathan Rourke for slotting on the Patriots' QB depth chart, Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald reports.

Advice: Alternatively, Callahan suggests that with five QBs in the mix the Patriots could look to move Zappe, who drew six regular-season starts for the team in 2023. For now, however, Zappe remains with the organization that selected him 137th overall in the 2022 Draft. In any case, even if the 25-year-old ends up sticking around as a depth option, he won't have a path to a potential starting role as long as Brissett and Maye are healthy. With that in mind, Zappe could find himself on the radar of other teams seeking signal-caller options once injuries hit. Rotowire.com Thursday, 9:07 am

  • Running and cutting in ACL rehab
Jones (knee) said Wednesday that he's been running and making cuts during his rehab from a torn right ACL, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.

Advice: Jones went on to say he's "doing everything," and the plan remains for him to be fully cleared for the start of training camp. The veteran quarterback tore his ACL last November and also dealt with neck issues, though Jones said he's over the latter injury. The Giants didn't use a draft pick on a quarterback this offseason, only swapping out veteran backup Tyrod Taylor for Drew Lock in free agency. Jones should get every opportunity to remain the Giants' starter in 2024, despite a dreadful, injury-shortened 2023 campaign. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 5:37 pm

  • Fifth-year option gets declined
The Cowboys declined Lance's fifth-year option for the 2025 season Wednesday, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.

Advice: Dallas' decision comes as little surprise, as the No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft appeared in just eight games over his first two seasons in the league with the 49ers and then didn't play a single snap for Dallas in 2023 after being acquired prior to Week 1. Lance remains on Dallas' roster for the upcoming season and will compete with Cooper Rush for backup duties behind starting quarterback Dak Prescott. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 4:43 pm

  • Cowboys decline QB Trey Lance’s fifth-year option
Cowboys declined the fifth-year option on QB Trey Lance’s contract.

Advice: This only confirms previous reports that the team intended on declining the former third-overall draft pick’s fifth-year option. Cooper Rush served as the team’s backup quarterback a season ago and returns to the roster in 2024, making it likely Lance has another year of emergency quarterback duties while technically inactive ahead.
