He works on his releases, his routes, his top of the breaks, getting out of those -- things he needs to improve on." At 6'4/214, Washington is merely a Dynasty stash and watch-list candidate. • Anthony Dixon expects RBBC w/ Bryce Brown
Anthony Dixon said he expects to "kinda do it together, as a combination" with Bryce Brown in the Bills' backfield.

Advice: Again, this isn't unexpected. The Bills are going to go into Week 8 against the Jets with an open mind. Dixon will likely get the start in the Fred Jackson role, with Brown coming in as the change-of-pace speed complement, a la C.J. Spiller. From there, the Bills may gradually work to a hot-hand approach. If it comes to that, we'd expect Brown to be the superior option based solely on talent. It may take a week or two for it to get sorted out, but Brown offers the highest upside. Rotoworld.com

  • Whaley thought Brown had star potential
Bills GM Doug Whaley traded for Bryce Brown because he felt the former Eagle had the potential to be a star.

Advice: Whaley gave up a fourth-round pick to get Brown this summer, relatively steep compensation by NFL standards. Note that Brown was the unquestioned No. 1 high school player in the country coming out, getting compared to Reggie Bush by Lane Kiffin. He has 4.48 speed at 6'0/220 and is excellent in the pass game. As the Buffalo News speculates, Brown will at worst be a "co-feature back" with Anthony Dixon while Fred Jackson (groin) is out. He's a plug-n-play RB2 with potential to stick in the C.J. Spiller role even once F-Jax returns. Just note that the Bills face the Jets' rugged run defense this week and then have a bye in Week 9. Andre Johnson caught five passes for 77 yards in the Texans' Week 7 loss to the Steelers on Monday night.

Advice: Johnson and DeAndre Hopkins each saw a team-high nine targets. There was nothing special about Johnson's night. His biggest play was a 24-yard grab on a deep in route in front of the safeties. Johnson has just one touchdown on the season. He could have had another on Monday if Ryan Fitzpatrick would have hit him in stride on a corner route in the end zone. But Fitzpatrick overshot Johnson, who had a step on the defensive back. Tre Mason led Rams running backs by playing on 27-of-51 snaps in Sunday's win over the Seahawks.

Advice: Benny Cunningham played 19 snaps and Zac Stacy got one. It's clear that Mason has surged to the front of the pile here as the most talented natural runner and is a must-add, but there are major concerns -- most notably in the form of game flow. Mason is a zero in the pass game, which we know is a red flag when a team gets behind. See Andre Williams, Alfred Morris and even Marshawn Lynch for evidence of that. Travis Kelce played on 40-of-75 snaps in Sunday's win over the Chargers.

Advice: The 53.3 percent rate is actually less than what Kelce had played over the previous three weeks (59.1 percent). It confirms that the Chiefs did not come out of the bye with an emphasis on featuring Kelce more, as he had zero first-half targets and finished with just 4-33-0. Owners need to stop banging their heads against a brick wall and expecting Andy Reid to unleash Kelce fully -- it's clear that's not in the immediate plans, especially after an excellent road win. When asked about Bryce Brown, Fred Jackson said he's "an every-down back."

Advice: "We won't miss a beat," Jackson said. Although Anthony Dixon is under the impression he'll be a workhorse now, he's more likely to stick in a big back and special teams role while serving as the complement. Brown struggled with fumbles and bouncing too many runs outside as an Eagle, but is excellent in the pass game and has serious juice in his legs. On 190 career NFL carries, he's produced 878 yards (4.62 YPC) and six touchdowns. With C.J. Spiller out for the season and F-Jax sidelined as much as a month, Brown is a plug-n-play RB2. Advice: Graham played enough snaps to be a factor, but he oddly wasn't really a part of the gameplan. He had zero catches on two targets and the Lions defenders said afterward they weren't worried about him. ESPN Saints reporter Mike Triplett says it's difficult to predict if Graham's role will increase going forward, as the tight end's ability to block and absorb contact are in doubt. Travis Kelce caught 4-of-4 targets for 33 yards in Kansas City's Week 7 win over the Chargers.

Advice: Kelce had a fifth grab wiped out by an offensive pass interference call on Anthony Fasano. Kelce ripped off back-to-back gains of 16 and eight yards on the Chiefs' game-winning drive, but was bafflingly limited to just two targets beforehand. It was confounding usage from coach Andy Reid, who watched Junior Hemingway and Dwayne Bowe commit brutal drops, and A.J. Jenkins display stunningly-little awareness. Advice: He also caught a seven-yard pass. Starks went down late in the third quarter, but almost certainly could have continued running were the Pack not running away with the game. He remained on the sideline in his helmet, which is almost always an indication a player could check back in. Starks continued to rotate with Eddie Lacy before going down, getting three series to himself. Starks cut back on his 13-yard score in the first quarter, displaying excellent vision. They started the game with eight straight 3-and-outs, posted 27 total yards in the first half and Kevin Huber finished with 11 punts. There was just no shot for Bernard, who took two big hits on short passes but didn't suffer any serious injuries, to get anything going. Getting A.J. The Bills traded a fourth-round pick to acquire Brown this offseason. It's fair to wonder if they're regretting that decision now. • Graham to be a red-zone player if active?
The New Orleans Times-Picayune suggests Jimmy Graham (shoulder, questionable) could be a situational red-zone player if active Sunday.

Advice: We've seen the Saints do this with Graham before, as recently as last season when he often played limited snaps while battling foot and elbow injuries. He was still dominant, closing the season with six touchdowns in the last six games despite playing on just 69.2 percent of the snaps during that span. The bottom line is that if Graham suits up Sunday, he has to be in lineups regardless of role. "It's an injury. It's just like all the other ones I've ever had," he said, reiterating his status as a true game-time call. "It's painful, but we'll see. Maybe in two days I'll feel better." Rotoworld.com

Jimmy Graham (shoulder, questionable) conceded Friday he doesn't know whether he will play in Sunday's game at Detroit.

Advice: After practicing on a "limited" basis Thursday and Friday, Graham said he "still doesn't know if he'll play," and "thinks it could come down to coach's evaluation (in) pregame Sunday." Graham acknowledged he "couldn't move" his shoulder after injuring it in Week 5 against the Buccaneers. It sounds like Graham is technically a game-time decision. If he isn't active against the Lions, Josh Hill and Ben Watson would share tight end duties. Rotoworld.com

Brown rushed for 148 yards on 33 carries in the preseason, and turned nine catches into 73 yards. He hasn't played a single snap through the season's first six weeks after the Bills gave up a fourth-round pick for Brown in the offseason. His time may not come until 2015 when C.J. Advice: Coach Sean Payton said earlier Thursday that he's "optimistic" about Graham's Week 7 availability, and this certainly leaves open the possibility that he'll play against the Lions. Still, Graham's Friday status will be all important. It's possible the Saints are just trying to confuse the situation for Detroit. Graham could end up a game-time decision. The New York Daily News suggests Corey Washington could get a look as a red-zone package player going forward.

Advice: Washington was the star of Giants training camp, catching four touchdowns in preseason games and making the team as an undrafted free agent out of tiny Newberry College. At 6'4/214 with 4.5 speed, he's the kind of player we like to take shots on. • Tre Mason debuts, leads Rams RBs in rushing
Making his NFL debut, Rams rookie RB Tre Mason rushed for 40 yards on five carries in St. Louis' Week 6 loss to San Francisco on Monday night, adding one catch for 12 yards.

Advice: Mason had been a healthy scratch each of the first four games of the season. He entered the game in the first quarter, taking the place of Trey Watts as the No. 3 back behind Zac Stacy and Benny Cunningham. Mason turned his first NFL touch into a 12-yard gain in the red zone. His first carry went for 27 yards and would have likely gone for a touchdown if Brian Quick hadn't gotten in the way downfield. Mason showed that it's clear he has the most talent as a runner in the Rams' backfield. Stacy and Cunningham are plodders in the Shonn Greene mold and haven't showed anything to keep Mason off the field. Mason is worth a look in 12- and 14-team leagues.
