  • Benny Cunningham working ahead of Mason
Benny Cunningham is getting reps with the starters ahead of Tre Mason Sunday.

Advice: As a rookie with very little pass protection experience, Mason isn't going to be handed the No. 2 job behind Zac Stacy. Cunningham led the NFL in YPC (5.55) among rushers with at least 45 attempts last season. For now, speculation that Mason could earn 8-10 carries per game appears unfounded. Rotoworld.com

  • 49ers RB/KR James dislocates left elbow
49ers RB/KR LaMichael James is expected to miss at least a month with a dislocated left elbow.

Advice: The once-deep 49ers may have to sign a running back after losing James for all of camp and Kendall Hunter to an ACL tear. Jewel Hampton now looks like a decent bet to make the 53 behind Frank Gore and rookie Carlos Hyde. When healthy, James will return as San Francisco's primary kickoff and punt returner, and No. 3 tailback. Marcus Lattimore (hamstring, knee) still can't practice. Rotoworld.com

Tests revealed that Cecil Shorts sustained a Grade 2 hamstring strain in Friday's practice.

49ers RB/KR LaMichael James was carted off the field during Sunday's practice with an apparent left arm injury.

Advice: The injury appeared to be James' wrist or arm, and the extent is unknown. It's another running back blow after San Francisco lost Kendall Hunter to a torn ACL. Frank Gore, Carlos Hyde, and Jewel Hampton are the Niners' only healthy backs. Marcus Lattimore (knee, hamstring) remains on the active/PUP list. Rotoworld.com

  • Fins target Shady McCoy role for Lamar Miller
According to the Miami Herald, "there's a hope in Dolphins camp" that Lamar Miller "can play the role of LeSean 'Shady' McCoy" in new OC Bill Lazor's offense.

Advice: Lazor spent 2013 on Chip Kelly's staff as Philly led the NFL in rushing and yards per carry (5.1). Miller lacks McCoy's lateral explosiveness, but he is a speed back who's dangerous in space. Earlier in July, Miller met with McCoy to discuss "how to thrive in the system Lazor has brought from Philly to South Florida," and also watched Shady's game tape. Per beat writer Adam Beasley, Miller "has been clearly ahead" of Knowshon Moreno "every step of the way." "He looks good, he looks stronger than he's ever been," said coach Joe Philbin of Miller, who gained 6-8 pounds of offseason muscle. "I don't think he's sacrificed any speed whatsoever." Miller is shaping up as a potential steal at his seventh-round ADP. Rotoworld.com

Bernard Pierce revealed that his weight ballooned to 248 pounds following January shoulder surgery.

Advice: The good news is Pierce has dropped into the 217-222 range, and recovered fully from the surgery. "I definitely feel lighter and quick," he said Sunday. Pierce just turned 24 in May, and is the favorite to open the season as the Ravens' feature back. He could run away with the job during Ray Rice's two-game ban. Rotoworld.com

Trent Richardson is sitting out Colts camp with a hamstring injury.

Advice: It sounds like a day-to-day thing, but hamstring injuries have a tendency to linger. Richardson's absences have allowed Ahmad Bradshaw to dominate first-team reps, with Vick Ballard (Achilles') done for the season. At a time when most are concerned with his YPC average and poor 2013 performance, Richardson's latest malady is a reminder of the multitude of injuries he battled as a rookie. Rotoworld.com

According to ESPN Falcons reporter Vaughn McClure, Julio Jones is "showing no ill effects" from last year's foot fracture in training camp.

Advice: Julio's reps are being limited, but he's dominating whenever on the field. Per McClure, "every part of Julio Jones' day has looked explosive" during Sunday's session, and he's "stopping on a dime." In a pass-first Falcons offense that lost Tony Gonzalez, Julio offers No. 1 overall fantasy wideout upside. We have him ranked No. 4 at receiver based on his recurring foot problems. Rotoworld.com

"He's a guy that we felt played very well in the last half of the season," Payton said of Ingram. "It's a position where we obviously carry depth, because it's a position that gets nicked up." Including playoffs, Ingram rushed 55 times for 374 yards (6.8 YPC) and two touchdowns in the four games he received at least ten carries last season. The Saints are likely to continue utilizing a three-man backfield, however. Ingram is an RB3/4. Rotoworld.com

Browns coach Mike Pettine said rookie Terrance West has "shocked" him with his pass-catching ability, and "isn't far behind" Ben Tate.

Advice: "I think Ben is probably going to be a little bit ahead of him just naturally in the protection part of it, but Terrance isn't far behind," were Pettine's words. West made noise during Sunday's practice in pass-catching periods. He caught 36 passes as a college senior, so it's not surprising West is showing well in that phase of the game early. CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora suggests the Bills could trade C.J. Spiller before the season.

Advice: It's hard to imagine because Spiller is Buffalo's best playmaker on a team very much in win-now mode. La Canfora's story also doesn't cite sources, hinting it's mere speculation. It's interesting nonetheless. Spiller is entering the final year of his contract. The Bills have expressed interest in signing him long term, but Spiller currently has no agent. "A trade market for Spiller could well develop over the next month," La Canfora wrote of Spiller, who was not drafted by current Bills GM Doug Whaley. The New York Daily News sees rookie Odell Beckham as "more complement than competition" for a starting job in two-wide sets.

Advice: The Giants will play a lot of three wides, but Beckham won't be on the field in two-receiver packages, and a hamstring injury has bothered him since the spring, keeping the rookie behind. A rookie-year stat line similar to DeAndre Hopkins' in Houston last year (52-802-2) would be a success for "OBJ." Rotoworld.com

  • Breakout season expected for Rueben Randle
According to the New York Daily News, the "stage is set" for a Rueben Randle breakout in 2014.

Advice: With Hakeem Nicks out of the picture, Randle is starting opposite Victor Cruz. It sounds like the Giants plan to frequently throw the ball up to him in contested situations in the red zone and downfield. "I've got to play big," Randle said of his new role. "They're going to allow me to do that. My job is to make that big play, whether it be in the end zone or down the field." Randle said he's "very confident" he'll score "double-digits in touchdowns." At 6'3/208, Randle projects as the main red-zone beneficiary with the Giants severely lacking talent at tight end. With an ADP in the ninth round, Randle is a tremendous value. Rotoworld.com

  • Panthers lose rookie RB Gaffney for season
Panthers rookie RB Tyler Gaffney suffered a torn lateral meniscus in his left knee during Saturday's practice and is done for the year.

Advice: The good news is that Gaffney doesn't have damage to his ACL, and should be available for the start of next year's training camp. A sixth-round pick, Gaffney will compete for a 2015 roster spot. The loss leaves DeAngelo Williams, Jonathan Stewart, and Kenjon Barner as Carolina's top three backs. If you're interested in deep sleepers, keep an eye on UDFA Darrin Reaves, who goes 5-foot-7 and 209 pounds, and posted a 10-foot-3 broad jump at his Pro Day. ESPN Cleveland's Tony Grossi predicts rookie Terrance West will handle 10 carries per game this season.

Advice: Grossi considers Ben Tate the favorite for Cleveland's lead back job, and we do, too. West is likely to be involved in a high-volume run game from the outset, however, and would take over as the Browns' primary runner in the event of a Tate injury, which based on Tate's history wouldn't be far-fetched. Beckham first injured the hammy in the spring, and then re-tweaked it on his first route on the opening day of training camp Tuesday. "The best competition might be Ben Tate and our guy Terrance West from Towson, who I really like," were Pettine's words. With Browns camp under a week away, Tate's fantasy ADP stands at the mid to late fifth round, while West is often available early in round eight.
