  • Jorvorskie Lane leaves with ankle injury
Bucs FB Jorvorskie Lane left Week 12 against the Bears with a right ankle injury.

Advice: Lane was rolled up on from behind after a second-quarter run. Trainers put an air cast on his right leg before he was carted off the field. He is out for the rest of the game and is likely done for the season. Rotoworld.com

The Colts announced Dan "Boom" Herron as their starting tailback -- not Trent Richardson -- as their starting tailback for Week 12.

Advice: According to reports, Richardson "was sick all week." He was listed as a full participant in both Thursday and Friday's practices, and was "probable" on the injury report. So this announcement came as a late-minute surprise. Rotoworld.com

  • Report: Doug Martin is set to start for Bucs
According to FOX's Jay Glazer, Doug Martin will start Sunday's Week 12 game against the Bears.

Advice: Martin, Charles Sims and Bobby Rainey are all active. Mike James was a healthy scratch. It's interesting that Martin, coming off an ankle injury, will grab the start considering how ineffective he's been of late. That said, he fits as an early-down back complemented by Sims who can catch passes and change the pace. Ideally, it's a backfield to avoid Sunday -- we could very well see an even split. • Glazer: Browns don't have limits on Gordon
After speaking with Browns coach Mike Pettine Sunday morning, FOX's Jay Glazer refutes a report that Josh Gordon will be limited to 20-30 snaps in Sunday's game at Atlanta.

Advice: Gordon showed up to work this week in far better shape than the Browns expected and "really improved" as practices went on. So although the original plan was 20-30 snaps, we could see last year's leading receiver on the field for way more than that. "We have the full gamut in store for him," Glazer relayed from Pettine. They'll check in with Gordon at halftime and see how he feels. "As long as he can deal with the pounding, we are going to run him and run him and run him." Gordon should be in all season-long lineups. Rotoworld.com

Jaron Brown is expected to operate as the Cardinals' No. 3 receiver in Sunday's game at Seattle.

Advice: Michael Floyd and John Brown will start with Larry Fitzgerald (MCL sprain) not expected to dress. John Brown is Arizona's best fantasy bet at wide receiver against a Seattle defense that historically stymies bigger wideouts. Brown is a promising second-year UDFA out of Clemson. He's worth a Dynasty league stash. The Cardinals are expected to part with Fitzgerald in the offseason. Rotoworld.com

Advice: Hunter's knee was never a real concern as he practiced in full on both Thursday and Friday. However, his level of play has been among the worst in the league all season. He's just a WR4/5 despite the plus matchup against the Eagles' burnable corners. Delanie Walker (concussion) is also active, as expected. Coach Mike Zimmer made it clear Adrian Peterson will be a Viking when or if he's reinstated from suspension.

Advice: Peterson has essentially been suspended indefinitely; the NFL announced his ban as "at least" until the end of this season. "All I know of Adrian is that he's always been great with me, always done what I've asked him to do, and I kind of go by what I see," said Zimmer. Peterson's appeal hearing will go down on December 2. There is a very slim chance he could play late in the season. • Browns list Crowell as starting RB for Wk 12
Isaiah Crowell is listed as the Browns' starting running back for Week 12.

Advice: As beat reporter Tony Grossi notes, "we've seen this change before, however." For instance, Ben Tate was listed as the Browns' starter in Week 11. The Browns proceeded to start Crowell and utilize him as a full-on feature back, while Terrance West was the change-of-pace runner and Tate was almost strictly used on third downs. Crowell is the best Week 12 fantasy start in Cleveland's backfield, but there is still plenty of volatility with this situation. Keep in mind the Browns' offensive coordinator is Mike Shanahan's son. • Report: Josh Gordon to play 20-30 snaps Sun.
ESPN's Adam Schefter was informed by a league source that Josh Gordon will play 20-30 snaps in his Week 12 debut against the Falcons.

Advice: NFL Network's Ian Rapoport adds Gordon "will either start or be in quickly" with the Browns rotating him "in and out," yet they're open to playing Gordon more "if he's feeling good." Gordon can do damage on 20-30 snaps, though we might take the over on this. Browns-Falcons could be a shootout, but Cleveland could try and slow the pace by leaning on its run game. It's a volatile situation. Gordon is a must-start in season-long leagues, but is more of a tournament than cash play in DFS. Rotoworld.com

According to the Tampa Bay Times, Doug Martin (questionable, ankle) got "many of the reps with the first team during drills."

Advice: Martin missed the last three games with his ankle injury. He returns to a backfield that was dominated by third-round rookie Charles Sims last week, and also has Bobby Rainey available. Martin should have an opportunity to regain a role, although he's been among the worst backs in the league since the start of last season. Gordon's "pitch count" will be raised on Thursday, meaning the Browns will give him more reps ahead of Sunday's game against the Falcons. Pettine's pleasure with where Gordon is at physically and mentally right now bodes well for his chances of seeing something around 75-85 percent of the snaps in his 2014 debut. Coach Mike Pettine said Wednesday that Josh Gordon will be on a "pitch count" this week.

Advice: It's a bit unclear if Pettine was referring to practices or Sunday's game against the Falcons. What is clear is that he's trying to temper expectations. "There needs to be a progression. The trap to fall into is, 'Hey, he's back and let's just go ahead and throw him out there for a bunch of plays.' There's certainly danger inherent in doing that," said Pettine, who also talked to Ross Tucker about research the Browns have done on higher injury rates after long layoffs. We're not expecting Gordon to play 100 percent of the snaps Sunday after three months off, but even a limited Gordon is a must-play in season-long formats. Gordon has not been permitted to practice since training camp and is taking contact this week for the first time in 80 days. Of course, we're talking about an All-Pro talent on a team that is both desperate for offensive weaponry and clawing for a playoff berth. Even if Gordon is a bit limited in terms of snap count and volume, he's a must-play in season-long formats right away. Rotoworld.com

  • Pettine defends Isaiah Crowell
Browns coach Mike Pettine defended Isaiah Crowell's Week 11 lost fumble, crediting Texans ILB Brian Cushing with making a great play.

Advice: The Browns appear to be increasingly committed to Crowell, sticking with him after the loose ball, and cutting Ben Tate. "I don't see him as having a fumbling problem," Pettine said. "I think he was trying to switch (hands with) the ball and got caught. I thought Cushing made a heck of a play. He hit right on top of it." The Cleveland Plain Dealer foresees the Browns using a "two-back rotation" of Crowell and Terrance West going forward. Crowell is the strongest fantasy option, at least for now. Rotoworld.com

  • Bengals OC Jackson won't name starting RB
Bengals OC Hue Jackson declined to name a starting running back when pressed following Wednesday's practice.

Advice: Jackson said Gio Bernard (hip) was "tremendous" in Wednesday's session, and Bernard remains on track to return Sunday against Houston. His role isn't going to be what it was early in the season, however. "I think we've got to work him back into our process and how we do things," said Jackson. "What will determine that is just how fast and how we think he is ready to go." It sounds like Bernard will be "eased in" versus the Texans. He'll be a flex option in standard fantasy leagues, and perhaps a lower-end RB2 in PPR. Rotoworld.com

  • Josh Gordon back, ready to 'tear this league up'
Josh Gordon told ex-Browns WR Nate Burleson that he plans to "tear this league up" upon his return from a 10-game suspension.

Advice: Whooo boy! Via Burleson, Gordon recently said, "I'm going to lose 10-15 pounds. When I come back, I'm going to tear this league up." Observers at Browns practice Wednesday said Gordon looked sharp running routes and in shape during the 15 or so minutes open to the media. The Browns have alluded to easing Gordon back into the picture, but Falcons coach Mike Smith isn't buying it. And neither are we. Cleveland is in the middle of a dogfight for a playoff spot. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution expects Falcons CB Desmond Trufant to shadow Josh Gordon in Week 12.

Advice: It looks like a tough matchup on paper for Gordon. Trufant (6-foot, 190) is Pro Football Focus' No. 9 cover corner on the season, but he's been lucky to miss A.J. Green and Calvin Johnson, who were hurt, in Weeks 2 and 8, respectively. Trufant has fared relatively well against Mike Evans, Vincent Jackson, and Alshon Jeffery, however. • Arbiter rules NFL can keep AD on exempt list
Independent arbitrator Shyam Das has ruled the NFL can keep Adrian Peterson on the exempt list.

Advice: Peterson is still appealing his year-ending suspension, but this is a major blow to his odds of suiting up in 2014. Commissioner Roger Goodell is now officially Peterson's judge, jury and executioner, and the NFL has made it quite clear it's not planning to be lenient. If you've been stashing AD in hopes of a late-season return, the odds are now slim enough that he should be let go. Four months shy of his 30th birthday, Peterson is at a career crossroads. It's likely he's played his last snap in Minnesota. Rotoworld.com

ESPN's Ed Werder says it's "very possible" Adrian Peterson returns to field Sunday while appealing his suspension.

Advice: We see "very possible" as a bit of an exaggeration. Yes, Peterson could win his grievance and be removed from the Commissioner-Exempt list Wednesday. He could then combine that with an appeal of his Personal Conduct suspension to try to get on the field. But whether the Vikings would be willing to activate him remains to be seen and the NFL clearly does not want AP activated. • Burden of running game now on Richardson
The Indy Star says the "burden" of the running game is now going to fall on Trent Richardson.

Advice: It's a scary thought for the Colts in the wake of Ahmad Bradshaw's fracture. Richardson has been among the least effective backs in the NFL over the last two seasons, averaging 3.12 YPC with five rushing touchdowns in 23 games as a Colt. The difference between T-Rich and Bradshaw was night and day. Already getting 15.2 touches per game, it's now conceivable that Richardson will get up around 20 going forward -- especially in clock-killing situations like the one we'll likely see in Week 12 when the Colts host the Jags. He's a volume-based RB2 with limited upside. Rotoworld.com

The NFL has suspended Adrian Peterson without pay for at least the remainder of this season.

Advice: Roger Goodell does not see the nine games Peterson was forced to spend on Commissioner-Exempt list (with pay) as "time served." They are now trying to keep AP off the field via the Personal Conduct policy after he pled "no contest" to misdemeanor assault charges stemming from a discipline incident with his son. Peterson's lawyers and the NFLPA are appealing the suspension right away, but the NFL has really dug its heels in here. PFT's source says that's hogwash. Peterson will be embraced by the team if he's deemed eligible to play and is reportedly "ready to go." • Justin Hunter goes 2-48 in Week 11 loss
Justin Hunter caught two passes for 48 yards in the Titans' Week 11 loss to the Steelers.

Advice: Hunter was targeted four times. He stumbled on the Titans' first play of the game, falling out of bounds on his route, leading to a pick-six for William Gay. On his other missed opportunity, Hunter could only get one foot down in bounds on the sideline. He continues to frustrate. Hunter's big gain was a 36-yard grab on a hook route when Gay slipped in coverage. Hunter is nothing more than a WR4. He has a plus date with the Eagles in Week 12, but is impossible to trust. Speaking Monday, Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said he "thinks" Giovani Bernard (hip) will resume practicing this week, but added that he "(wasn't) sure."

Advice: Lewis likes to offer up wishy-washy comments, but most signs point toward Bernard returning on Wednesday, and likely suiting up for Week 12. The Bengals' own website has said as much. Bernard reportedly looked good in pre-game warmups before Sunday's win over the Saints. Sidelined for the past three games, Bernard is expected to return to more of a timeshare with Jeremy Hill, who has starred during his absence. Hobson expects the Bengals' backfield to be "flexed for the stretch," with Jeremy Hill taking on a more significant role than the one he played behind Gio early this season. Josh Gordon is officially reinstated off suspension as of Monday.

Advice: The three-month wait is finally over. Gordon is now cleared for normal activities without restriction, meaning he'll participate in practice this week for the first time since August. Although coaches haven't been permitted to be in contact with him during the suspension, he has been allowed to work out at the facility and is reportedly in excellent shape. We'd expect him to hit the ground running in a Kyle Shanahan offense that is predicated on a strong run game and a voluminous/effective "X" receiver. Gordon can certainly be that, as evidenced by his jaw-dropping 87-1646-9 line in 14 games last season. Barring something unforeseen later in the week, we'd fire him up right away against Atlanta in Week 12. Rotoworld.com

Charles Sims led Bucs RBs by playing on 33-of-52 snaps in Sunday's win over the Redskins.

Advice: Bobby Rainey started the game, but was replaced on the second series and finished with five touches on 19 snaps. Mike James did not even play a snap and Doug Martin (ankle) was a scratch once again. It left Sims to pile up 16 touches and although he was not productive (44 total yards), he's clearly making progress. "He is looking better and better," coach Lovie Smith afterward. • Pettine on RBs: We're not going to pick one
When asked about his running back rotation following Sunday's loss to the Texans, coach Mike Pettine said, "We're not just going to pick one."

Advice: In Week 9, Isaiah Crowell got zero carries while Terrance West led the way with 15. Week 10 saw West pile up 26 carries compared to 12 for Crowell and 10 for Ben Tate. On Sunday, Crowell surprisingly got the nod for 14 totes, seven more than West and Tate combined. "It's something we'll look at week to week," Pettine said. "When you go in a game-plan situation you look at what gives us the best chance to win." More often than not, Crowell is going to be the Browns' best option. Despite a Week 11 fumble (that he was not punished for), he'll be the best bet to carry the mail against the Falcons in Week 12. Rotoworld.com

Julian Edelman played on a season-low 35 snaps in Sunday night's win over the Colts.

Advice: Edelman played on 10 of the first 12 snaps, but finished with 35-of-73. It's likely a result of the fall he took near the sideline during the first quarter, when he clearly got up slowly. Isaiah Crowell took over as the Browns' feature back in Sunday's Week 11 loss to the Texans, rushing 14 times for 61 yards and securing 2-of-4 targets for 30 additional yards.

Advice: Perhaps most promisingly, the Browns stuck with Crowell after he lost a second-quarter fumble; ball security has been an issue for the promising rookie in the past. Crowell finished with 16 touches compared to Terrance West's five and Ben Tate's two. The Browns can revert to a "hot-hand" approach at any moment, but Crowell has all along been their best option in the backfield. Advice: It's something of a surprise move after the Browns benched Crowell for a faux-fumble in last week's win over Cincinnati. Perhaps the coaching staff watched the tape and felt bad about it, and this is the way they are compensating. We still fully expect a "hot-hand" approach in the Browns' backfield, but Crowell appears likely to get the first shot to establish it. He's a high-upside, but risky flex option. Giovani Bernard (hip) remained sidelined at Friday's practice and has been ruled out for Week 11.

  • Doug Martin back at Bucs practice Thursday
Doug Martin (ankle) returned to Bucs practice Thursday.

Advice: He'll likely be listed as "limited." There's now a chance Martin will be ready for Sunday's game against the Redskins, but it's far from a given. Even if Martin does return, it will likely be as the No. 3 on the depth chart behind Charles Sims and Bobby Rainey. Martin is no longer a consideration in 10-12 team leagues, and is barely on the radar in 14-team formats. Rotoworld.com
