  • Nick Toon impressing at Saints camp
The Times-Picayune has named Nick Toon one of the most impressive players at Saints camp so far.

Advice: Toon has "consistently come up with catches on nearly every pass pattern." It sounds like rapid improvement from last season, when he played on just 205 snaps and was active for just eight games, looking overmatched when asked to fill in for Lance Moore.

  • Jordy Nelson's contract is 2-year commitment
Jordy Nelson's four-year, $39 million extension is really only a two-year commitment by the Packers.

Advice: Nelson is safe through 2015 due to the proration of his $11.5 million signing bonus, but that is the only guaranteed portion of the deal. Nelson's salary cap number jumps from $4.6 million in 2015 to $8.8 million in 2016, at which point he will be entering his age-31 season with a non-guaranteed salary of $5.5 million. Because Nelson was already under contract with the Packers for 2014, the overall max value of the deal is $43 million across five seasons.

  • Lorenzo Taliaferro's dropped by prosecutors
Lorenzo Taliaferro's misdemeanor destruction of property and public drunkenness case has been dropped by prosecutors.

Advice: Taliaferro didn't even have to attend his court hearing Thursday. The fourth-round rookie is competing with Justin Forsett and Cierre Wood for time behind Bernard Pierce and Ray Rice.

  • Report: David Wilson (neck) 'needs a miracle'
A source tells that David Wilson (neck) "needs a miracle" to return to the field.

Advice: Wilson sustained a burner during Tuesday's practice, just a few months after undergoing spinal fusion surgery. His NFL career is now in serious jeopardy. The Giants are not expecting Wilson to get good news when he meets with his surgeon on Monday, leaving them with Andre Williams, Peyton Hillis and Michael Cox behind starter Rashad Jennings.

  • Donte Moncrief sliding his way up depth chart
Third-round WR Donte Moncrief is in the mix for Colts No. 4 receiver duties.

Advice: The No. 4 job was supposed to be between Da'Rick Rogers and Griff Whalen while 20-year-old Moncrief developed. But the Combine freak has impressed, even earning some first-team reps. It's a great sign for Moncrief's Dynasty value.

  • Da'Rick Rogers off to slow start at camp
Da'Rick Rogers is off to a slow start at training camp.

Advice: Per beat reporter Mike Wells, Griff Whalen has "definitely" outplayed Rogers so far. It's another disappointing turn of events for a talented prospect fighting for the No. 4 receiver job. Still, he's just 23 years old and Reggie Wayne/Hakeem Nicks are on one-year deals. We're holding Rogers in Dynasty formats where we can.

  • C.J. Anderson drops 20 pounds
C.J. Anderson has dropped his weight from 234 pounds at minicamp to roughly 215 pounds now.

Advice: Anderson was reportedly sluggish during the offseason program, and people within the Broncos thought he wouldn't keep a roster spot at that weight. So now he's slimmed down and is looking like he did last year, when he made the squad as UDFA. Anderson is our favorite Montee Ball handcuff as long as he beats out Juwan Thompson and Brennan Clay.

  • Montee Ball showing well early in camp
Montee Ball performed well through the first week of training camp.

Advice: Ball has reportedly "shown vision in the run game, decisiveness in his cuts and consistent, quality work in the passing game." ESPN's Broncos reporter says the second-year back is "poised for a big season" and suggests 250 carries. We also know he's going to get all the goal-line work in the game's most explosive offense and is a solid pass-catcher as well. Ball is currently ranked as fantasy's No. 8 running back in our online Draft Guide.

  • Toliver waived with injury settlement
Bears waived WR Terrence Toliver (foot) with an injury settlement.

Advice: Toliver was a roster sleeper thanks to a 6'5/204 frame that we know the Bears love, but a small fracture was discovered in his foot. He's been hit with an eight-week recovery timetable. OL Graham Pocic was signed in a corresponding move.

  • RBs coach: Freeman to be really good receiver
Falcons RBs coach Gerald Brown said Devonta Freeman is "going to be a really good receiver for us."

Advice: Freeman has reportedly shown "flashes" of every-down ability so far in camp, something we're watching very closely. Steven Jackson, already over the hill and a poor candidate to make it through the season, is currently sidelined by a multi-week hamstring pull. Note that Rotoworld's NCAA prospect guru Josh Norris was especially high on Andre Ellington and Zac Stacy last year. This year, his No. 1 running back in the draft was Freeman.

  • Belichick says James White is a 3-down back
Coach Bill Belichick sees fourth-round RB James White as a three-down back.

Advice: White was pegged as a "passing back" by some coming out of Wisconsin, but the Patriots don't see it that way. "He does a good job in the passing game and in the running game -- both inside and outside," said Belichick. "... I think he has the ability to compete on all three downs." White is shaping up as the primary backup to both Stevan Ridley and Shane Vereen.

  • Cameron to post bigger numbers in 2014?
After digesting the first week of camp, ESPN Cleveland says Jordan Cameron "is going to have a bigger year than last season."

Advice: If Josh Gordon's suspension stands, Cameron will be the only pass-catcher on the Browns that truly threatens a defense. It's not far-fetched at all to think he can make a leap on last year's 81-917-7 line, and it doesn't matter too much who wins the quarterback battle. In Brian Hoyer's two full games last year, Cameron averaged eight catches for 78.5 yards and scored four touchdowns.

  • Mike Wallace sidelined by a hamstring tweak
Mike Wallace (hamstring) will not practice until at least next week.

Advice: Wallace said his hamstring was "tight" earlier this week and then sat out Wednesday's session. So he'll rest it for a few days, meaning he'll miss Saturday's intrasquad scrimmage. Wallace's tweak doesn't sound overly severe, but we hate when speed-reliant wideouts have soft-tissue problems in their legs. It's something to monitor once the prime bounce-back candidate does get back on the field.

  • Seahawks not interested in Jermichael Finley
A source tells ProFootballTalk that the Seahawks will not revisit discussions with free agent Jermichael Finley.

Advice: The topic came up because Seahawks TE Anthony McCoy tore his Achilles' tendon on Tuesday and the team had Finley in for a visit earlier this offseason. But it's unlikely they'd meet the ex-Packer's contract demands, especially with the Marshawn Lynch situation hanging over their heads. The Seahawks will be fine with Zach Miller and Luke Willson at tight end.

  • Julian Edelman looking good as go-to guy
Julian Edelman has put together a "strong camp" as Tom Brady's "go-to guy."

Advice: With Rob Gronkowski (knee) limited and Aaron Dobson (foot) sidelined, it's no surprise that Brady is peppering Edelman with targets. That's what happened last year and the result was 105 catches, fourth-most in the league. We don't doubt Edelman is capable of something like that again, but Gronk's impressive rehab and healthy returns by Shane Vereen and Danny Amendola will lead to more balance. Something closer to 75 catches for Edelman is realistic.

  • David Wilson tweets he is 'fine'
Giants RB David Wilson (neck) tweeted he passed all his physical examinations and was "fine."

Advice: Wilson left practice Tuesday after suffering a neck "burner." He will sit out the rest of the week before being reevaluated on August 4. Despite the clean bill of health, it is clear Wilson's neck will be a concern for the rest of his career. He is not worth a redraft pick.

  • David WIlson (neck) to be reevaluated Aug. 4
David Wilson (neck) will sit out the rest of the week and be reevaluated August 4.

Advice: Wilson left Tuesday's practice early with a neck burner. He underwent initial tests yesterday, and it's been determined that he won't play in Sunday's preseason opener versus the Bills. Wilson will be looked at Monday by Dr. Frank Cammisa, the doctor who performed his neck surgery. The Giants are going to be extremely careful here. We don't advise using a re-draft pick on Wilson.

  • Toliver headed for second opinion on foot
Bears WR Terrance Toliver is seeking a second opinion on his injured foot.

Advice: Toliver has been sidelined a week with what the Bears fear could be a small fracture in his foot, which would likely end his season. A prototypical Bears receiver at 6-5/204, Toliver is a dark horse to make the team if his health cooperates.

  • David Wilson (neck burner) undergoing tests
David Wilson will undergo tests after suffering a neck "burner" in Tuesday's practice.

Advice: NFL Network's Kimberly Jones reports the Giants "will be careful" with Wilson, which is probably the understatement of the century. It's extremely bad news for Wilson to have any issues with his surgically-repaired neck so soon after being cleared. If drafting early, make Wilson a late-round flier at your own risk.

  • David Wilson exits practice with neck burner
David Wilson left Tuesday's training camp practice early with a neck burner.

Advice: A "burner" or "stinger" is an injury to the nerves in the neck or shoulder that produce a stinging sensation. Obviously, with Wilson, this is a major concern and not something to take lightly. Following practice, coach Tom Coughlin said "we were all praying" Wilson wouldn't suffer any setbacks. This qualifies as one. Recovery time can range, but WIlson won't be cleared to return until he's experiencing zero neck pain. We'll update Wilson when the Giants do.

  • James White gaining buzz early in camp
According to, fourth-round RB James White "is quickly becoming one of the camp's top phenoms and is the team's leading rookie."

Advice: White is getting plenty of first-team reps in both the Stevan Ridley power role and the Shane Vereen passing back spot. It's reportedly "clear" that he has "exceptional skills and moves with the confidence of a veteran" as he runs ahead of Brandon Bolden. White is on our flier radar.

  • Mike Wallace moving around formation in camp
Mike Wallace has been moving around the formation and lining up on both sides during training camp.

Advice: "I think I'll get to run everything," Wallace said. "I'll be able to be a complete receiver instead of a one-dimensional guy." After running mostly go routes down the right sideline under old OC Mike Sherman, Wallace is "running a variety of patterns" under new play caller Bill Lazor. Wallace is currently being drafted as a WR3, but we like his odds for having a bounce-back breakout year.

  • David Wilson to be part of weekly gameplan
The Newark Star-Ledger expects David Wilson to be part of the Giants' weekly game plan as long as he remains healthy.

Advice: Wilson opened training camp as the second-team tailback behind Rashad Jennings, and has reportedly "looked explosive" in the receiving game. With the Giants moving to a West Coast offense, Wilson has an opportunity for a bigger role as a pass catcher in addition to change-of-pace duties. Rookie Andre Williams is expected to push Jennings for red-zone carries.

  • Packers extend Jordy Nelson for 4 years, $39M
Packers signed WR Jordy Nelson to a four-year, $39 million contract extension.

Advice: The deal includes $14.2 million guaranteed and an $11.5 million signing bonus. One of the most underrated wide receivers in the league, Nelson is finally getting paid after accepting a discounted rate from the Packers in 2011. Green Bay will now turn its focus to Randall Cobb, who is also in the final year of his deal. Jordy's extension solidifies his elite WR1 Dynasty value. He's now under the Packers' control through 2018; Aaron Rodgers is signed through 2019.
