    • Broncos hoping Hillman returns to field soon
The Broncos hope to have Ronnie Hillman (foot) back "if not this week at Cincinnati then in the season finale."

Advice: The Broncos could put Hillman to use as a complement to C.J. Anderson, who's averaged an unruly 27.25 carries per game over the past month. Shifty and quick, Hillman would make more sense as a true change-of-pace than Juwan Thompson, who is a big back like Anderson. Even if Hillman plays Monday night at Cincinnati, it would be a surprise if he handled more than 7-9 touches. Rotoworld.com

Carlos Hyde (ankle, back) said he does not expect to play in Saturday's game against the Chargers barring a miracle.

Advice: Despite receiving good news following an MRI, it doesn't look like Hyde is going to be able to go on this short week. It's terrible timing, as Frank Gore (concussion) is in serious doubt as well. It's certainly possible the 49ers will be forced to roll with Alfonso Smith and Phillip Tanner at running back Saturday. Carlos Hyde (ankle, back) remained sidelined at Wednesday's practice.

Advice: Frank Gore (concussion) also remained out on Wednesday. The 49ers are on a short week with a game against the Chargers on Saturday night. • McCluster (knee) expected to miss rest of '14
Dexter McCluster (knee) has been ruled out for Week 16 against the Jaguars and is expected to miss the rest of the season.

Advice: Predictably, McCluster proved to be yet another terrible free-agent signing by GM Ruston Webster. Yet, the Titans remain committed to Webster running the organization. They'll continue to toil in mediocrity. McCluster inked a three-year, $9 million deal that included $4.5 million guaranteed. He went on to rush 40 times for a measly 131 yards (3.1 YPC) and catch 26 passes for 197 yards (7.6 YPR) and one touchdown. He's set to count $3.35 million against the cap in 2015. Rotoworld.com

Ravens placed RB Lorenzo Taliaferro on injured reserve with a sprained foot, ending his season.

Advice: Taliaferro sat out Week 15, but was listed with knee and ankle issues. It's unclear how severe his foot injury is. Foot sprains can be very tricky injuries for running backs to heal up from. A fourth-rounder out of small-school Coastal Carolina, Taliaferro had an impressive rookie season, averaging 4.3 yards on 68 carries. He scored four touchdowns, and added eight receptions. Taliaferro spent some time in coach John Harbaugh's doghouse for fumbling issues, but is a more intriguing long-term prospect than Bernard Pierce. Taliaferro could get a chance to lead the Ravens' backfield in 2015. Rotoworld.com

Nick Toon caught four passes for 43 yards in the Saints' Week 15 win over the Bears.

Advice: He reeled in all four of his targets for the second consecutive week. Toon has been chipping into Marques Colston's snaps. The Saints like to rotate their receivers, and Toon has taken over as the No. 3. It's still not enough to make him an option for 2014. But Toon could make Colston expendable in the offseason. Bucs placed WR Louis Murphy on injured reserve with an ankle injury, ending his season.

Advice: The severity of Murphy's injury is unknown, but even a minor ailment would land him on I.R. with only two games remaining. Signed off the street in September after being cut loose following training camp, Murphy went on to be reasonably productive as the Bucs' No. 3 receiver, posting a 31/380/2 line across 11 games. Advice: According to coach Doug Marrone, Spiller's "readiness" for Week 16 will be gauged in practice. The Bills' running game really hasn't missed a beat in Spiller's absence, so it's unlikely Marrone will force him back into the lineup if he doesn't believe he's ready.
