  • LeGarrette Blount totals 46 yards vs. Eagles
LeGarrette Blount rushed seven times for 32 yards in Thursday's preseason game, and secured 3-of-3 targets for an additional 14 yards.

Advice: Blount came off the bench behind Le'Veon Bell, but got to work on Pittsburgh's second series. Apparently being "punished" for their Wednesday arrests, both players played into the fourth quarter, finishing with 10 touches apiece. Blount out-gained Bell 46-26. Neither player got the rock near the goal-line, as the Steelers were never in position. Blount is clearly ticketed for weekly work, but remains a firm No. 2 to Bell's No. 1. Even if he earns the majority of the goal-line opportunities, Blount is little more than a mid-range RB3. Rotoworld.com

  • Bell and Blount both play into 4th Q vs. PHI
Le'Veon Bell started Thursday's preseason game, rushing nine times for 23 yards while catching one pass for three yards.

Advice: Bell got the start one day after being popped for DUI and marijuana possession, running the ball on three of the Steelers' first four plays. Bell also drew two targets on the opening drive, one of which was nullified by a penalty. LeGarrette Blount didn't show up until Pittsburgh's second drive, but both played into the fourth quarter. That appeared to be their "punishment." Each received 10 targets, though Blount out-gained Bell 46-26. Neither found the end zone, but there weren't any goal-line carries on a night where Pittsburgh got throttled. Despite his issues with Blount and the law, Bell is still the Steelers' clear No. 1, and worthy of a second- or third-round fantasy pick. Rotoworld.com

  • Kenjon Barner goes 7-32 in Eagles debut
Eagles RB Kenjon Barner rushed seven times for 32 yards in Philly's third preseason game Thursday night against Pittsburgh.

Advice: He added a 22-yard kickoff return. Acquired via trade just yesterday, Barner showed some knowledge of Chip Kelly's offense after playing for him at Oregon. The 25-year-old running back appears to be competing with Matthew Tucker and Henry Josey for one roster spot. As the Eagles continue to evaluate him, expect Barner to get a bunch of playing time in the preseason finale. Rotoworld.com

Eagles UDFA Henry Josey rushed four times for 48 yards in Thursday's preseason game against the Steelers, adding one catch for eight yards.

Advice: The big night came despite the fact that Josey had a 70-yard touchdown nullified by an extremely dubious holding penalty on B.J. Cunningham. A scatback with 4.43 wheels who made a living on big plays at Mizzou, Josey has now racked up 139 yards from scrimmage on only 15 touches this preseason. He's still on the outside looking in of the Eagles' 53-man roster, but is shaping up as an intriguing practice-squad stash. Rotoworld.com

  • Dri Archer goes 3-16 in preseason game
Steelers rookie Dri Archer caught 3-of-4 targets for 14 yards in Thursday night's third preseason game.

Advice: Through three preseason weeks, the third-rounder from Kent State has just ten yards on four carries but 108 yards on seven receptions, including gains of 40 and 46 in Pittsburgh's first two exhibitions. Archer possesses 4.26 speed, but is a package player who can't run between the tackles. His ceiling is essentially a more explosive Dexter McCluster in OC Todd Haley's offense. Rotoworld.com

Eagles RB Matthew Tucker rushed 10 times for 46 yards and two touchdowns in Thursday night's third preseason game.

Advice: He worked as Philly's No. 3 tailback behind LeSean McCoy and Darren Sproles, although Chris Polk (hamstring) remains sidelined. Tucker is on the bubble, but has helped himself with a strong August, compiling 18 runs for 86 yards (4.78 YPC) and a preseason-NFL-high four rushing TDs, to go with a 15-yard catch. With McCoy, Sproles, and probably Polk locked in, Tucker, Henry Josey, and Kenjon Barner are likely vying for one roster spot. Rotoworld.com

Carroll's remarks are a reminder that the Seahawks remain bullish on their 2013 second-rounder. Coach Mike Tomlin plans to play both Le'Veon Bell and LeGarrette Blount in Thursday's preseason game against the Eagles.

Advice: It confirms Tomlin isn't overly concerned with the marijuana-related incident that went down Wednesday afternoon. He said that jobs will be decided in this game, and the whole team shouldn't suffer from the running backs' silly mistake. Even if the NFL does want to slap a one-game suspension on Bell or Blount, they wouldn't do so until the case makes its way through the legal system. Advice: There's plenty of precedent here that will allow Bell and Blount to suit up for the entire season. In cases like this pending marijuana possession charge, the NFL waits for the legal process to play out before handing down discipline under the personal conduct policy. Lawyers won't have a problem delaying any proceedings. Note that Dwayne Bowe was caught with marijuana in a car last November, and didn't get hit with his one-game ban until last week. Rotoworld.com

It's unclear if either running back will be suiting up against the Eagles. Regardless, we're not expecting this case to be adjudicated in time to affect their playing status for this season. • Pierre Thomas expecting bigger pass-game role
Pierre Thomas expects his pass-game role to expand this season.

Advice: "I know my role is going to change a whole lot this year," he said. "I'm going to do more pass protection and route running." On paper, it makes sense as Darren Sproles and Lance Moore, who combined for 108 catches last year, are both gone. But Thomas already caught 77 balls last season, Khiry Robinson is underrated in the pass game and Brandin Cooks can do Sprolesian things. In reality, it's hard to see Thomas' box-score production making a significant leap, leaving him as a borderline RB2/3 in PPR formats. Advice: LeGarrette Blount did make the trip after being arrested as well. There could be some significance to this, but we're not adjusting our rankings yet, and may not at any point. The NFL tends to take a long time to hand down discipline, and Bell has no history of violating league policy. Isaiah Pead was forced from Saturday's preseason game with a leg injury

Advice: Pead got hurt on a kick return in the first quarter. It was a non-contact injury, so this has potential to be serious. Pead had to be helped off the field and was later carted to the locker room. The Rams should provide an update on his status after the game. Rotoworld.com

  • C-Mike plays behind Turbin, totals 52 yards
Christine Michael rushed eight times for 45 yards in Seattle's second preseason game on Friday night.

Advice: He added one catch for eight yards. Michael saw fewer touches than Robert Turbin and played into the fourth quarter. With Turbin looking as sharp as ever this August, Michael may be falling behind in Seattle's No. 2 running back derby. Michael has 15 carries for 61 yards (4.1 YPC) and a touchdown through two preseason games. The coaching staff seems to prefer Turbin. Rotoworld.com

  • Henry Josey impresses versus Patriots
Eagles UDFA RB Henry Josey rushed eight times for 56 yards and caught a 27-yard touchdown pass in Philly's second preseason game Friday night.

Advice: An explosive scatback with 4.43 wheels, Josey impressed in his opportunity at significant playing time with Matthew Tucker and David Fluellen both on the shelf. Josey is a good fit for Chip Kelly's offense, which springs backs into space. He's a prime candidate to land on Philadelphia's practice squad. Rotoworld.com

  • Saints still expected to use 3-RB timeshare
ESPN Saints reporter Mike Triplett continues to expect "a pretty even split" in New Orleans' three-man backfield.

Advice: A New Orleans Times-Picayune story recently suggested Pierre Thomas had fallen down the depth chart, which may technically be true, but certainly doesn't mean he's lost his role. His snaps may actually increase this season with Darren Sproles gone, and neither Mark Ingram nor Khiry Robinson particularly adept in the passing game. Thomas remains a solid RB3 in standard leagues. You could sell him as a viable RB2/flex in PPR leagues, as well. Rotoworld.com

  • Tomlin: Blount may be more than just RZ back
Coach Mike Tomlin indicated LeGarrette Blount may be more than just a red-zone, goal-line back.

Advice: "They're both going to get their share," Tomlin said of Blount and Le'Veon Bell. "We'll deal with that on a game-by-game basis based on the plan." In the preseason opener, Blount received two consecutive red-zone carries while also seeing a third-down rep. The Steelers have been hinting at a possible mix-and-match committee-style approach since signing Blount and drafting Dri Archer. Blount stealing goal-line and occasional work between the 20s from Bell would be a big hit to Bell's stock. He's hard to get behind as a first- or early-second round pick in fantasy drafts. Blount's value is great in the 11th. Rotoworld.com

  • Tomlin: Bell & Blount will 'get their share'
Speaking Thursday, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said Le'Veon Bell and LeGarrette Blount are "both going to get their share" of carries this season.

Advice: It's an eye-opening comment, especially after Blount split first-team work with Bell in last weekend's preseason opener. While we're not afraid that Blount will supplant Bell as the Steelers' No. 1 back, perhaps Blount could find himself in the 10-12 carry range on a weekly basis instead of the 6-8 the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette projected in June. It's not a situation for Bell owners to take lightly. Blount is most likely to steal work near the goal-line despite the fact there's no real reason to believe he's a better short-yardage back than Bell. Rotoworld.com

  • Peyton Hillis hopes to return next week
Peyton Hillis (foot, ankle) is hoping to resume practicing by Monday.

Advice: He'll need to in order to ensure his roster spot. Provided he can get healthy, Hillis is ticketed for No. 3 duties behind Rashad Jennings and Andre Williams. Hillis averaged an anemic 3.4 yards across 73 carries for the Giants last season. The G-Men could ultimately opt to replace him with a free agent. Rotoworld.com

  • Moreno starting to look like 'old self'
Dolphins coach Joe Philbin believes Knowshon Moreno (knee) is "starting to look like kind of his old self," but is unsure if he'll suit up for Saturday's preseason game against the Bucs.

Advice: Moreno was just cleared for contact on Monday, so it's unlikely he's ready for game action. He's trending in the right direction for the Dolphins' regular-season dress rehearsal against the Cowboys on August 23, however. That's a game Moreno can't afford to miss in his battle with Lamar Miller. Rotoworld.com

  • Michael still behind Turbin on depth chart
Christine Michael remains the No. 3 running back on the Seahawks' latest unofficial depth chart.

Advice: The Seahawks are making Michael earn his leap ahead of Robert Turbin. Michael technically came off the bench behind Turbin in Saturday's preseason opener, but still got run with the first-team offense, and was the more-impressive back. We remain much higher on Michael's talent than Turbin's, and consider Michael Marshawn Lynch's likely handcuff. Rotoworld.com

  • Knowshon Moreno returns to team drills
Knowshon Moreno (knee) participated in contact drills Monday for the first time since his scope.

Advice: It was Moreno's first full-padded practice since Super Bowl week. He's reportedly in better shape than he was at OTAs and is having no trouble making sharp cuts. Ideally, the Dolphins will use him as a pass protector and receiving back while Lamar Miller handles the bulk of the early-down carries. Rotoworld.com

  • Lighter McCoy looks 'better than ever'
According to ESPN Eagles reporter Phil Sheridan, LeSean McCoy looks "better than ever."

Advice: Now in his true prime at 26 years old, McCoy is playing with a top-3 offensive line and in a run-first scheme. He's dropped a few pounds off his '13 playing weight, reportedly gaining even more quickness and agility. "McCoy seems better at getting out into pass routes and catching the ball. He teases defenders who try to cover him," Sheridan said. McCoy is our No. 1 overall pick in fantasy drafts. Rotoworld.com

  • Kenjon Barner's roster spot in jeopardy?
The Associated Press has "growing concern" over Kenjon Barner sticking on the final roster.

Advice: It would be a bit of a surprise as Barner brings value as a possible return man and only needs to hold off Darrin Reaves for No. 4 running back duties. Still, the early part of Barner's career has not been promising. He earned just eight touches from scrimmage as a rookie while battling foot/ankle issues. Barner's pass protection has been an issue at camp. Rotoworld.com
