  • Tate blames lack of holes for poor numbers
Ben Tate suggested that a lack of running lanes is the reason for his brutal two-game stretch.

Advice: Over the last two weeks, Tate has rushed 31 times for 62 yards (2.0 YPC). He was asked if there were any holes against the Raiders last week. "Did you watch the game?" he replied. Tate now has another favorable matchup against Tampa Bay's leaky run defense this week, but is just an RB2 post-Alex Mack. Rotoworld.com

  • Charles Sims to push for 10+ touches Sunday?
Bucs beat writer Greg Auman sees 10-plus touches for Charles Sims (ankle) Sunday.

Advice: It sounds like a lot for a rookie that has been on IR/return all season, but it speaks to the kind of role the Bucs want him to have. Doug Martin (ankle) is in a walking boot and highly questionable, possibly leaving Sims and Bobby Rainey as the top-two backs against the Browns' No. 30 run defense Sunday. "There's no doubt, when (Sims) is ready to go, he will give us a spark," coach Lovie Smith said. "I feel pretty confident in saying that." Rotoworld.com

  • Michael Vick says he'll play with control
New Jets starter Michael Vick says he has "to play with some type of control."

Advice: After relieving Geno Smith against the Bills last week, Vick committed three turnovers in three quarters. "Last week, I got too greedy," he said Wednesday. "I was trying to play like a 24-year-old Mike Vick." We don't expect Vick to shed his turnover- or injury-prone label, but he does have some fantasy upside thanks to his still dominant legs. Ideally, streamers will use him in a Week 10 home game against the Steelers rather than at Arrowhead against the Chiefs Sunday. Note that while starting for the Eagles in the first four games of last season, Vick averaged 270.0 pass yards, 57.0 rush yards and 1.7 total touchdowns per game. Mark Ingram said he feels good despite the short recovery time ahead of Thursday's game against Carolina.

Advice: We're always a little leery of players in the Thursday games, especially running backs who touched the ball 25 times the previous Sunday. But the spot is right again for Ingram as Pierre Thomas is out and Khiry Robinson is highly questionable, leaving Ingram to carry the load against a Panthers team that is giving up 5.22 YPC to opposing running backs. Advice: Smith was slammed to the turf by Robert Quinn on back-to-back plays late in the first half of Sunday's win over the Rams, lightly spraining his throwing shoulder. It's not a concern going forward. Smith has a dream matchup on paper this week against a Jets team that stuffs the run and gets exposed by the pass, but his conservative style caps upside. According to the Tampa Bay Times, it's "not a slam dunk" that RB Charles Sims (ankle, I.R./return) is activated for Week 9.

Advice: Per reporter Rick Stroud, Sims hasn't suffered any setbacks from his preseason injury, but the Bucs "want to be careful." That's understandable, of course, but most signs suggest Sims will be making his NFL debut against the Browns' shaky run defense. The Bucs have just one win on the season and every incentive to start playing their youngsters. Sims was the 69th overall pick in May's draft. According to the New York Daily News, "all signs" point to the Jets starting Michael Vick in Week 9 at Kansas City.

Advice: Per beat reporter Manish Mehta, Vick will start "barring an 11th-hour power play" by GM John Idzik and/or owner Woody Johnson. It'll be a great opportunity for fantasy owners to stream the Chiefs' defense. The game will be played at Arrowhead Stadium, and Vick has become more turnover prone than ever late in his career. Smith will likely sit out or earn a "limited" tag on Wednesday before trying to ramp up on Thursday. The good news is, Smith suffered the injury in the first half on Sunday, and played through it in the second. The ex-Panther has a ligament tear and small fracture in his sesamoid bone. • Vick to start unless Rex pressured by GM?
The New York Daily News says the feeling inside the Jets is that Michael Vick will start Week 9 unless Rex Ryan is pressured into starting Geno Smith.

Advice: The pressure would come from GM John Idzik, who made Smith the No. 39 overall pick in the 2013 draft. He's probably not willing to throw in the towel yet, especially in favor of a 34-year-old quarterback when your team is 1-7. The 25-year-old back was inherited by this Lovie Smith regime, and has been among the league's worst running backs over the last two seasons. Fantasy owners should be thankful Tate scored a five-yard rushing touchdown late in the third quarter, effectively salvaging his fantasy day. Vick led to the offense to 17 points on five drives before getting shut down in the second half. The Bills defense dominated at every level against the Jets. He was inches away from a touchdown pass to Travis Kelce, but Kelce was stopped at the one-yard line before Jamaal Charles pounded in the score on the ground. Foster caught a five-yard touchdown on a little flare-out route in the third quarter before cashing in from one yard out on the ground later. Advice: After stretching, Rudolph did some running on the side with trainers. It's not much, but it is a bit of progress for a player that was hit with a 6-8 week timetable following his surgery. Owners in need of tight end help should start thinking about a stash soon as Rudolph could realistically be back immediately after the Week 10 bye. The red-zone dominator was lining up in the slot a ton before going down. Rotoworld.com

  • Arian Foster limited on Wednesday
Arian Foster was limited in Wednesday's practice.

Advice: The Texans listed Foster as "not injury related," but he missed practice time last week with a groin issue. Foster has a matchup with the Titans' No. 22 ranked run defense in Week 8. Rotoworld.com

  • Darren Sproles (knee) limited Wednesday
Darren Sproles (knee) was limited in Wednesday's practice.

Advice: As expected. Sproles is off on the right foot to play Week 8 against Cardinals. But at less than 100 percent against a good defense, he's merely an RB3. Rotoworld.com

  • Charles Sims (ankle) cleared for practice
Bucs RB Charles Sims (ankle) is practicing Wednesday.

Advice: Barring any setbacks, Sims could return in Week 9. He's a candidate for the Bucs' third-down role immediately and could eat into the workload of Doug Martin before too long. Martin, inherited by the Lovie Smith regime, hasn't played good football since 2012. Rotoworld.com

  • Report: Sproles appears likely to play Week 8
CSN Philly reports Darren Sproles (knee) "appears likely" to play Week 8 against the Cardinals.

Advice: After initially fearing a torn ACL, Sproles says he "felt pretty good" at Tuesday's practice. An MRI last week revealed no structural damage and just a mildly sprained MCL. Arizona is yielding the second-fewest PPR points to opposing running backs. At less than 100 percent and seeing just 5.5 touches per game over the past four, there will be better options than Sproles for your FLEX spot. Rotoworld.com

  • Giants MLB Beason (toe) considering surgery
Giants MLB Jon Beason (toe) said he's contemplating season-ending surgery, and gave himself a 50-50 chance to play again in 2014.

Advice: Beason is in Charlotte visiting Dr. Robert Anderson for at least the third time since initially hurting his foot over summer. "I’m still deciding if the smart thing is to go ahead and get it fixed and get ready for next season," Beason said. He's appeared in parts of four games this season and has yet to make a real impact at less than 100 percent. Jameel McClain has been filling in at MIKE. Rotoworld.com

  • Beason (toe) expects surgery news by Weds.
Giants MLB Jon Beason (toe) expects to know by Wednesday whether he needs surgery.

Advice: Beason is visiting a specialist on Tuesday. Even if he gets good news, it sounds like he'll be no better than 50-50 to suit up when the G-Men come off their bye in Week 9. Rotoworld.com

  • Lewis expected to practice Oct. 28
Marcedes Lewis (ankle) is expected to resume practicing Oct. 28.

Advice: Lewis is on short-term IR and eligible to return Week 12. It appears he's on that path. Athletic Clay Harbor will hold solid TE2 value until then. Rotoworld.com

  • Blue totals 25 yards, TD on six touches
Alfred Blue rushed for 14 yards on five carries and caught an 11-yard touchdown in the Texans' Week 7 loss to the Steelers.

Advice: Blue was the vulture on the opening-drive 11-yard score after Arian Foster managed 59 rushing yards to get the Texans near the goal line. Foster is an every-down back, leaving just a handful of touches for Blue weekly, but Blue is one of the top handcuffs to own thanks to Foster's recent injury history. Rotoworld.com

  • Foster piles up 115 yards, TD in MNF defeat
Arian Foster rushed for 102 yards on 20 carries in the Texans' 30-23, Week 7 loss to the Steelers on Monday night, adding four catches for 13 yards and one touchdown.

Advice: Foster got off to a blazing start, rushing for 59 yards on the Texans' 94-yard opening touchdown drive, but was vultured by Alfred Blue for the 11-yard touchdown catch to cap it off. The wheels then fell off the Texans later in the half, and they never recovered. Foster was part of the problem, as he lost a fumble at his own three-yard line, setting up Le'Veon Bell's easy TD. Foster gave fantasy owners a scare on the third series of the game when he appeared to twist his knee while getting bent backward on a tackle. He shook it off and remained in the game. His score came from one yard out late in the fourth quarter. A locked-in RB1 any week he plays, Foster gets a date with the Titans in Week 8. Rotoworld.com

  • Jon Beason to visit Dr. Robert Anderson
Giants MLB Jon Beason will visit Dr. Robert Anderson regarding his latest toe injury this week.

Advice: As beat writer Jordan Raanan notes, "not good." In Sunday's loss to Dallas, Beason aggravated a toe injury that has plagued him since training camp. The Giants signed Beason to a new three-year, $16.8 million contract in March. Rotoworld.com
