Ben Roethlisberger thinks Markus Wheaton is "going to surprise a lot of people."

Advice: With Emmanuel Sanders gone, Wheaton has been running as the starting "X" for the entire offseason and into training camp. He's coming along nicely in his second NFL season, highlighted by a toe-tapping touchdown against the Bills last week. "He's definitely on the same page with Ben, and, anytime you're on the same page with Ben, there is a good opportunity," said teammate Antonio Brown. The speedy Wheaton has the ability to eclipse the 67-740-6 line Emmanuel Sanders posted as Roethlisberger's "X" last year. He's a prime sleeper. Rotoworld.com

The Tennessean says the goal-line fade to Justin Hunter has been "all but unstoppable" at camp.

Advice: "When the Titans get anywhere near the goal line, quarterback Jake Locker simply lofts a soft spiral toward the corner of the end zone," says beat man John Glennon. At 6-foot-4 with excellent ball skills and a sparkling 39.5-inch vertical, Hunter is a no-brainer target over the diminutive Kendall Wright. On his 30 career NFL catches (between preseason and regular season), he has an incredible eight touchdowns. Hunter is shaping up as a prime breakout candidate this season, especially in TD-heavy formats. Rotoworld.com

Advice: The 6'4/215 Washington has come from tiny Newberry College to emerge as one of the stars of Giants camp. Per beat man Jordan Raanan, people inside the organization are intrigued by his unique ability to make plays in the air. We've seen that in each of the three preseason games, as Washington has posted a 7-116-3 line on seven targets. He'll likely open the season as the Giants' No. 5 wideout and should be on deep Dynasty radars. Rotoworld.com

  • Miles Austin will start if he's healthy
Miles Austin remains penned in as a starting outside receiver.

Advice: While Josh Gordon is suspended, Austin will be the No. 1 outside receiver. That alone makes him a sleeper, but expectations should be held in check. Austin has been ineffective even when on the field over the last few years, and the Browns are going to play a Ground 'N Pound ball control style. Austin has played on 36 preseason snaps and produced one catch for 13 yards on three targets. Rotoworld.com

ESPN Cleveland isn't sure if Nate Burleson will make the Browns' final roster.

Advice: 33-year-old Burleson has been bothered by a hamstring issue for a couple weeks now. Of course, the competition for roster spots in this wideout corps is not exactly fierce. The only locks are Josh Gordon, Andrew Hawkins and Miles Austin, leaving Burleson to battle guys like Charles Johnson, Travis Benjamin, Anthony Armstrong and Taylor Gabriel. The Indianapolis Star expects a "more even distribution" of targets in the Colts' pass-catching corps this season.

Advice: T.Y. Hilton finished 14th among NFL wideouts in targets last season, but might be lucky to finish top 20 in 2014. "It's week-to-week. It's all how they match up," is how GM Ryan Grigson described the Colts' target distribution. The Colts will use Hilton, Reggie Wayne, and Hakeem Nicks in three-wide sets, and Dwayne Allen and Coby Fleener in two-tight end packages. "He's a big part of what we're doing here," coach Bill O'Brien said. The No. 12 overall fantasy receiver a year ago, Johnson's ADP has dropped into the late fourth round. He's back in shape, and says he "can't wait to get out there" this year. Crabtree is a big-time blow-up candidate as the 49ers' clear No. 1 receiver and Colin Kaepernick's go-to guy. Landry isn't on the re-draft radar yet, but he could certainly find himself there before the year is up. • Torrey Smith anticipates more versatile role
Torrey Smith is anticipating a more versatile role this season.

Advice: The hiring of Gary Kubiak as offensive coordinator will be a boon to Smith's box scores. Used too often as a one-trick deep threat through his first three NFL seasons, the speedster's new role "incorporates his ability to run deep routes as well as short to intermediate patterns." Much like the Shanahan & Son offense, the Gary Kubiak scheme is ridiculously friendly to X receivers -- as we saw with Andre Johnson in Houston and 2013 NFL target leader Pierre Garcon in Washington last season. Smith is playing that spot now, is in a contract year and is one of our favorite value-pick wideout targets. He's currently lasting until the sixth round. Rotoworld.com

He's still in the prime for wideouts at age 30, hasn't missed a game since 2010 and keeps his body in peak condition. "He asked me about it. Marrone always treats injury information like a state secret, but it's notable nonetheless. The Bills originally called Watkins' injury a "bruise," but were less forthright on Monday. In standard 12-team drafts, we would begin considering Gordon in the 10th and 11th rounds, although that's obviously a high-risk approach. He's going to be eligible for eight games in a best case scenario, and there remains a realistic chance Gordon won't take the field at all this season. Rotoworld.com

  • Odell Beckham not ready for preseason action
Odell Beckham will sit out this weekend's game against the Colts, but is expected to be ready for the Giants' regular-season dress rehearsal on August 22.

Advice: "Not enough work (yet)," coach Tom Coughlin said Thursday. Beckham just resumed practicing on Monday. Barring a setback, he'll be 100 percent for the Giants' final two preseason games. Rotoworld.com

  • Michael Crabtree returns to Niners practice
Michael Crabtree (hamstring) returned to 49ers practice on Wednesday.

Advice: He wound up missing about a week and a half with "soreness" in the hamstring. Assuming Crabtree stays setback free, this shouldn't affect his regular season whatsoever. Not yet 26 years old, Crabtree piled up 61 catches for 880 yards and eight touchdowns across ten Colin Kaepernick starts in 2012, before last year's Achilles'-wrecked campaign. Crabtree's 16-game pace was 98-1,408-13. Rotoworld.com

  • Jarvis Landry getting chance to return kicks
Dolphins second-round WR Jarvis Landry is getting a chance to return kicks and punts.

Advice: Miami would like somebody to unseat Marcus Thigpen as the return man so that it doesn't have to carry Thigpen on the 53-man roster as a strict returner. Landry is getting an opportunity and had a 48-yard punt return in the preseason opener. Landry is also in the mix for slot duties, though Brandon Gibson is the favorite. Rotoworld.com

  • Still no news on Josh Gordon's appeal
There is still no news or developments regarding Josh Gordon's appeal.

Advice: It's been eight days since Gordon's hearing ended, yet a ruling from Harold Henderson still hasn't been handed down. The reason for the delay is unknown. Owners drafting while Gordon remains in limbo can take a shot in the 10th or 11th round in hopes the suspension is reduced to eight games. Rotoworld.com

  • UDFA Corey Washington making waves
Undrafted rookie WR Corey Washington has "done some special things over the last week," according to OC Ben McAdoo.

Advice: It's getting harder and harder to ignore the buzz on Washington, who is trying to pull a Victor Cruz and make the Giants out of tiny Newberry College. Washington does have intriguing measurables at 6'4/214 with 4.5s speed. And through two preseason games, he has four catches for 96 yards and two touchdowns. Washington has gone from camp body to underdog story. Rotoworld.com

  • Andre Johnson, Arian, Cushing back on field
Andre Johnson (hamstring), Arian Foster (hamstring) and Brian Cushing (knee, leg) are participating in Wednesday's joint practice with the Falcons.

Advice: Johnson, who was in pads Wednesday, ends up missing 15 days due to his strain. With an ADP in the late fourth round, he's currently a value pick as he preps for another target-heavy season -- this time from Ryan Fitzpatrick instead of Matt Schaub/Case Keenum. Foster's status will be worth watching closely as he's had recurring hamstring issues throughout his career. Cushing, who is now officially off active/PUP, will be ready for Week 1. Rotoworld.com

  • Justin Hunter lighting up Titans practice
According to the Nashville Tennessean, "not a practice goes by" without highlight-reel catches from second-year WR Justin Hunter.

Advice: Reporter Jim Wyatt's observation comes one day after Titans WRs coach Shawn Jefferson made Hunter wear a jersey with "JAG" on the back, standing for "Just Another Guy." Hunter's physical talent is undeniable. If he takes a step forward in attitude and effort, he's a breakout year waiting to happen. Rotoworld.com

  • Stephen Hill 'all over the map' in camp
Stephen Hill has been "all over the map in camp."

Advice: Hill drew strong early reviews, but his play has apparently deteriorated. Geno Smith admitted Hill has had "some drops," while coach Rex Ryan changed the subject to Hill's blocking when asked about his progress as a pass catcher. Reporter Rich Cimini considers Hill New York's No. 4 receiver behind Eric Decker, Jeremy Kerley and David Nelson. Rotoworld.com

  • Marshall fully healthy, clicking with Cutler
Brandon Marshall had five catches for 31 yards on just 17 snaps in Saturday's preseason opener against the Eagles.

Advice: Marshall had a rocky 2013 offseason, fighting a hip injury while adjusting to the new Marc Trestman offense. He still went off for 100-1,295-12 while playing in all 16 games for the third straight year. Now Marshall is fully healthy, has a year in the scheme under his belt, and we know Jay Cutler will pepper him with targets. The quiet offseason is a good thing for our No. 6 fantasy wideout. • Calvin Johnson playing like dominant self
Calvin Johnson (knee, finger) has made "jaw-dropping plays essentially every day" at camp.

Advice: Although the Lions are managing Johnson's reps in practice and held him out of the preseason opener, he's clearly over last year's nagging injuries. He's looked "impressive" while dominating defensive backs like he always does. Still just 28, there's no reason to think Johnson is going to regress this season. He's a tremendous bet to finish as a top-three wideout for the fourth straight season. Rotoworld.com

  • Justin Hunter getting 'JAG' punishment
Coach Ken Whisenhunt called out Justin Hunter in a team meeting for not making a play in Saturday's preseason opener, and WRs coach Shawn Jefferson made Hunter wear "JAG" on his jersey nameplate at practice.

Advice: Jefferson has been all over Hunter since the Titans drafted him with the 34th pick in last year's draft. It can be characterized as tough love. The Titans know Hunter can be as good as he wants to be. In NFL terms, "JAG" stands for "Just Another Guy." Hunter's taking it in stride. The sophomore ran behind Nate Washington Saturday, but saw plenty of action in three-wide sets and should overtake Washington in due time. Hunter is a prime breakout candidate. Rotoworld.com

  • Odell Beckham finally returns to practice
Giants first-round receiver Odell Beckham (hamstring) returned to practice on Monday.

Advice: He participated in individual drills and "(didn't) look uncomfortable." Beckham had been sidelined since the first day of camp. He'll be brought along slowly to avoid setbacks, but should be ready to rock for the G-Men's regular-season dress rehearsal on August 22. He's probably less than 50-50 for Saturday's game against the Colts. "OBJ" is just a late-round flier in re-draft leagues. Rotoworld.com

  • O'Brien upbeat about Johnson & Foster
Texans coach Bill O'Brien continued to express optimism Monday that Andre Johnson (hamstring) and Arian Foster (hamstring) will be back soon.

Advice: Neither participated in Monday's practice, but both "put in hard work" on a side field. O'Brien thinks both could play in Houston's second preseason game. "I've spoken to both those guys," said the rookie coach. "They're doing better. It's a long season and our trainers are doing a great job with them. But it seems like they've improved and hopefully they can do something this week." Rotoworld.com
